Microplastics and Microfibers extracted from box core of sediment sampled from Santa Barbara Basin, on Cal-ECHOES cruise, 2010, at 34°17.228’ N, 120°02.135’ W, in approximately 580 m water depth.
A box core was taken in the Santa Barbara Basin on the Cal-ECHOES cruise, in October 2010, at 34°17.228’ N, 120°02.135’ W, in approximately 580 m water depth. X-radiographs were taken of the core to date it to a 1-2 year timescale. The core was cut every 0.5 cm with a thin wire, oven-dried, washed, and wet-sieved over a 104 μm sieve. The >104 μm was first sorted for fish otoliths by William Jones, and then sorted again for this study for microplastics and microfibers with a dissecting microscope. Every particle was measured, photographed, and categorized. A subset of particles were also spectrally identified as plastic or not plastic via FTIR spectroscopy. These are the lengths of the particles measured.

Delta-X: Sediment Core Grain Size Distribution, Wax Lake Delta, MRD, LA
This dataset provides grain size distribution measurements collected from sediment core samples on Mike Island in the Wax Lake Delta, Louisiana, as part of the Delta-X Spring campaign in March, 2021,and the Fall campaign during August, 2021. The data are for March 26 and 29, and August 18 and 24. Sediment cores were collected using a piston core, then volume-based grain size distribution for each sample was measured using a laser diffraction particle size analyzer. The data are provided in comma separated values (CSV) format.
Geochemistry and age data of the down-core sediments collected along 131.5°W transect at the central equatorial Pacific

This dataset includes geochemical composition of inorganic silicate fractions separated from down-core sediments from the central Pacific, with relevant sampling information and radiocarbon and stable oxygen isotope data underlying the age model. The aim of the study is to track position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone during the Last Glacial Maximum and Heinrich Stadial 1 based on the latitudinal changes in hemispheric dust provenance. 7 sediment cores were collected along a 131.5°W transect from the equator to 6°N at ~1º intervals using a multiple corer and a piston corer on the R/V Onnuri during KODOS03-03 cruise (2003.07.03-2003.08.01; Chief Scientist: Woong-Seo Kim) and KODOS05-01 cruise (2005.07.17-2005.08.15; Chief Scientist: Woong-Seo Kim). Subsamples were taken at 1 cm intervals from the split cores, and planktic foraminifera was picked from one to five subsamples per each core for radiocarbon dating. Radiocarbon ages were obtained by AMS, and were calibrated to calender years before present. For one sediment core (MC5111), oxygen isotope ratios (δ18O) of planktic foraminifer, P. obliquiloculata (355–425 μm, ~10 specimens) were measured to supplement radiocarbon ages using IRMS. The inorganic silicate fractions were isolated from bulk sediments by sequential dissolution with 25% acetic acid, hot sodium citrate-sodium dithionite solution buffered with sodium bicarbonate, and hot sodium hydroxide solution. The elemental composition of the inorganic silicate fraction was determined using a quadrupole ICP-MS following conventional acid digestion. 143Nd/144Nd ratios were determined via multi-collector thermal ionization mass spectrometer using standard cation exchange techniques.

Description of Duchene subcatchment database: measured properties along sediment and soil cores and associated metadata

From the perspective of open science, this dataset includes data and medata of four sediment cores and five soil cores collected in the Duchene subcatchment (Martinique, France) in February 2023. These data were collected in order to study the impact of soil erosion on chlordecone transfers (an organochlorine insecticide) along a cultivated hillslope and, ultimately in a reservoir. To this end, a set of different properties were measured : radionuclide activities, carbon and nitrogen isotopes, elemental geochemistry, visible colorimetry, chlordecone and its degradation products concentrations.
