Data bundle for powerd-data: A transparent and reproducible data processing pipeline for energy system modeling based on egon-data
<div> <p><strong>powerd-data</strong> provides a transparent and reproducible open data based data processing pipeline for generating data models suitable for energy system modeling. Is is a fork from the open-source tool <strong>egon-data</strong>. </p> <p>powerd-data and egon-data retrieve and process data from several different external input sources. In-vivo video microscopy of the rupturing process of thin blood vessels in transparent fish during contact with a blunt indenter
<p>To clarify the mechanism of bruise injuries caused by blunt impact, in vivo microscopy was performed. A flat ended indenter made of transparent acrylic was loaded onto the lateral side of the tail region of anesthetized fish. The process of the rupture of thin blood vessels was recorded in two specimens.</p> <p>This data set includes two types of files; (1) mp4 files of the in vivo microscopy; (2) pdf files to explain the mp4 files.</p> <p><span>The mp4 files are the original data of “Fujikawa, T., Yamada, Y. Survival data of five artificial morphs with different transparency characteritics
<p>Fieldwork data of artificial prey survival of five different morphs with differences in their transparent element characteristics: O (opaque, 0 transparency), SW (small transparent windows), LW (large transparent windows), BE (large windows touching one prey edge) and B3E (large windows touching 3 prey edges). The experiment was performed in in two forests in southern France with evergreen and white oaks as predominant tree vegetation: La Rouvière forest (43.65°N, 3.64°E) and a large natural wooded area of the Montpellier Zoological Park (43.64°N, 3.87°E), for three 1-week sessions at each place. Artificial prey survival was monitored from predation by bird local communities once per day for four consecutive days. Morph order was randomized within blocks of 25 artificial prey, with 5 items per morph per block. Non-attacked prey were considered censoring data.</p>

Transparency in Keyword Faceted Search: a dataset of Google Shopping html pages
<p>This dataset contains a collection of around 2,000 HTML pages: these web pages contain the search results obtained in return to queries for different products, searched by a set of synthetic users surfing Google Shopping (US version) from different locations, in July, 2016.</p> <p>Each file in the collection has a name where there is indicated the location from where the search has been done, the userID, and the searched product: <em>no_email_LOCATION_USERID.PRODUCT.shopping_testing.#.html</em></p> <p>The locations are Philippines (PHI), United States (US), India (IN). The userIDs: 26 to 30 for users searching from Philippines, 1 to 5 from US, 11 to 15 from India.</p> <p>Products have been choice following 130 keywords (e.g., MP3 player, MP4 Watch, Personal organizer, Television, etc.).</p> <p>In the following, we describe how the search results have been collected.</p> <p>Each user has a fresh profile. The creation of a new profile corresponds to launch a new, isolated, web browser client instance and open the Google Shopping US web page.</p> <p>To mimic real users, the synthetic users can browse, scroll pages, stay on a page, and click on links.</p> <p>A fully-fledged web browser is used to get the correct desktop version of the website under investigation. This is because websites could be designed to behave according to user agents, as witnessed by the differences between the mobile and desktop versions of the same website.</p> <p>The prices are the retail ones displayed by Google Shopping in US dollars (thus, excluding shipping fees).</p> <p>Several frameworks have been proposed for interacting with web browsers and analysing results from search engines. This research adopts OpenWPM. OpenWPM is automatised with <a href="http://www.seleniumhq.org/">Selenium</a> to efficiently create and manage different users with isolated Firefox and Chrome client instances, each of them with their own associated cookies.</p> <p>The experiments run, on average, 24 hours. In each of them, the software runs on our local server, but the browser's traffic is redirected to the designated remote servers (i.e., to India), via tunneling in SOCKS proxies. This way, all commands are simultaneously distributed over all proxies. The experiments adopt the Mozilla Firefox browser (version 45.0) for the web browsing tasks and run under Ubuntu 14.04. Also, for each query, we consider the first page of results, counting 40 products. Among them, the focus of the experiments is mostly on the top 10 and top 3 results.</p> <p>Due to connection errors, one of the Philippine profiles have no associated results. Also, for Philippines, a few keywords did not lead to any results: videocassette recorders, totes, umbrellas. The data are empirical (reflectance spectra, absorbance spectra, transmittance spectra, contact angles) or output files generated through optical simulations.</p>
Patchy particle insights into self-assembly of transparent, graded index squid lenses
<p>Squids have spherical, gradient index lenses that maximize optical sensitivity while minimizing light scattering and geometric aberration. Previous studies have shown that the constituent lens proteins behave like patchy particles, and that a density gradient of packing fraction $\sim 0.01$ to $1$ assembles from a gradient of average particle valence, $\langle M\rangle$ $\approx 2.1$ to $\langle M\rangle$ $>6$. A priori, transparency requires that all regions within the larger gradient must minimize density fluctuations at length scales close to the wavelength of visible light. It is not known how a material can achieve this at all possible packing fractions via attractive interactions. We also observe that the set of proteins making the lens is remarkably polydisperse (there are around 40 isoforms expressed). Why does nature employ so many geometrically similar isoforms when theory suggests a few would suffice, and what, if any, is the physical role of the polydispersity? This study focuses on answering these questions for the sparsest regions of the lens, where the patchy nature of the system will have the largest influence on the final structure. We first simulated mixtures of bi- and trivalent patchy particles and found a strong influence of patch angle on the percolation and gel structure of the system. We then investigated the influence of the interaction polydispersity on the structure of the $M=2.1$ system. We find that increasing the variance in patch energies and single-patch angle appears decrease the length scale of density fluctuations while also moving the percolation line to lower temperature. S-crystallin geometry and polydispersity appear to contribute to promoting regular percolation of a gel structure while also limiting density fluctuations to small length scales, thereby promoting transparency in the annealed structure.</p>

Data for: Water depth and transparency drive the quantity and quality of organic matter in sediments of Alpine lakes on the Tibetan Plateau
<p>The primary objectives of the study were to: (i) determine OM quantity and quality in the sediments of alpine lakes on the Tibetan Plateau, (ii) identify the primary environmental regulators of OM quantity and quality, and (iii) reveal OM transformations in the water column and sediments.</p> <p>Firstly, we collected sediments and lake water from 20 lakes with diverse morphology and sizes across the entire Tibetan Plateau.</p> <p>Secondly, We analyzed the bulk sedimentary OM and two leachable pools of the sedimentary OM, i.e., water-soluble OM and alkaline-extracted OM combining elemental and stable isotopic analysis, optical measurements (i.e., absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy), and ultrahigh-resolution molecular techniques (i.e., electrospray ionization-assisted Fourier transform-ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry, ESI FT-ICR MS). We also measured the lake water physicochemical characteristics (i.e., depth, transparency, salinity, turbidity, DO, pH, TN, TP and Chl a), as well as the composition of dissolved OM in water column via optical measurements.</p> <p>Thirdly, we performed statistical analysis to determine the primary environmental control and predictors of the spatial variability in sedimentary OM on the Tibetan Plateau. The statistical analysis included non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis with Dunn post hoc test, redundancy analysis, and linear regression models.</p> <p>Main results of the study are that (i) sedimentary water-soluble OM and alkaline-extracted OM were both dominated by low-molecular-weight, low-aromaticity compounds with low contributions of terrestrial humic substances, suggesting that sedimentary leachable OM was primarily regulated by in-lake sources and processes; (ii) water depth, water transparency, and total phosphorus concentration in water column explained ~50% variance of sedimentary bulk and leachable OM, substantiating the importance of autochthonous sources and primary productivity in regulating the quantity and quality of sedimentary OM; (iii) in comparison to lake surface water DOM, water-soluble OM and alkaline-extracted OM from sediments had higher proportions of terrestrial humic-like substances, suggesting preferential preservation of allochthonous materials in the sediments.</p>
Investigating Transparency in Software Ecosystems
<p>Supplementary material for the paper "<em>Investigating Transparency in Software Ecosystems</em>", accepted at the XXXVII Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering (SBES 2023).</p> <p>This study aims to characterize transparency in SECO. To do so, we reviewed the existing literature on scientific databases and digital libraries to map and analyze the state-of-the-art of transparency in SECO. As a main contribution, we provide a comprehensive overview of approaches, constraints, processes, and challenges related to transparency in SECO. This knowledge can help organizations, software developers, and researchers to adopt initiatives that contribute to the open flow of information during the opening of the SECO, engaging and attracting new actors to the common technology platform.</p>
