JPL Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PODAAC) Image Granules API

PO.DAAC provides several ways to discover and access physical oceanography data, from the PO.DAAC Web Portal to FTP access to front-end user interfaces (see http://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov). That same data can also be discovered and accessed through PO.DAAC Web Services, enabling efficient machine-to-machine communication and data transfers. The PODAAC Image service renders granules in the PO.DAAC's catalog to images such as jpeg and/or png.

JPL Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PODAAC) Extract Granules API

Extract service subsets a granule in PO.DAAC catalog and produces either netcdf3 or hdf4 files.

SWOT Postlaunch Oceanography Field Campaign L2 Moorings

The SWOT Postlaunch Oceanography Field Campaign L2 Moorings collection provides the surface air pressure, GPS, current velocity, and conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) measurements from moorings at the L2 processing level. The SWOT satellite mission launched in late 2022 and underwent a calibration and validation (cal/val) phase in 2023. As part of cal/val, an array of oceanographic instruments was deployed at a site 300 km offshore of California, including moorings at 11 distinct sites. The S2 mooring site had additional re-deployments from an otherwise independent project to study internal waves, the National Oceanographic Partnership Program – Global Internal Waves (NOPP-GIW), beyond the cal/val phase from September 2023 to October 2024. Data from NOPP-GIW are included in this collection, and described here, because they are closely related to the SWOT cal/val efforts.

L2 data are still at the native instrumental resolution in time and space. Data from multiple instruments may be merged into a single file at L2 if the instruments sampled at the same times. Otherwise, they will be in separate files. Data calibration adjustments based on ship-based CTD cast data and water samples, as well as quality control, have been applied.

SWOT Postlaunch Oceanography Field Campaign L1 Moorings

The SWOT Postlaunch Oceanography Field Campaign L1 Moorings collection provides the surface air pressure, GPS, and conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) measurements from moorings at the L1 processing level. The SWOT satellite mission launched in late 2022 and underwent a calibration and validation (cal/val) phase in 2023. As part of cal/val, an array of oceanographic instruments was deployed at a site 300 km offshore of California, including moorings at 11 distinct sites from February to October 2023.

L1 data are instrument data converted to physical units and merged with the relevant metadata. L1 data do not have adjustments to calibrations or scientific quality control applied. L1 data are meant for data provenance only, and are likely only to be useful to users involved in calibration issues.
