Study Data: Obtaining Semi-Formal Models from Qualitative Data: From Interviews into BPMN Models in User-Centered Design Processes

<p>This dataset (Data.zip) contains the raw data of a user study on the investigation of transforming think aloud interviews into BPMN models. All information on how to use the data are provide in the SPSS files and as a readme file. This transformation is executed following a manual additionally provided in Documents.zip. For the training phase, a website was used provided in Website.zip including Screenshots for simpler re-use. Further information are also included as readme file in the zip container.</p> <p>Main research question answered is in how far the manual reduces interpretation and variance in the created models.&nbsp;</p>

Nuanced qualitative trait approaches reveal environmental filtering and phylogenetic constraints on lichen communities

<p>We propose that a qualitative trait approach based on more detailed nuanced traits may reveal previously overlooked patterns, especially when combined with phylogenetic perspectives. By sampling epiphytic lichens and using a functional approach based on nuanced qualitative traits, such as a much greater resolution over photobiont identity, type of cortex and chemical compounds, we evaluated the effects of environmental filtering and phylogenetic constraints on community assembly along natural succession of Atlantic rainforest. We found changes in taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic composition, structure and diversity. Functional traits such as photobiont genera, type of cortex, reproductive structures, propagule size and protection strategies showed strong responses to succession. Mature forests with a closed canopy impose strong environment filtering that is reflected in lichen species turnover, limiting diversity, but also holding different functional and phylogenetic composition. The use of a nuanced qualitative trait approach may overcome some of the limitations of using this type of traits and show the importance of often overlooked key lichen functional traits, including presence of carbon concentrating mechanisms in photobionts and cortex properties. Furthermore, this is the first study showing how patterns of phylogenetic assembly along forest succession structure lichen communities.</p>

Understanding Cultural Information Flow: A Qualitative study of a small social group

<p>This study uses qualitative data to explore closely adoption and onward transmission. Interview data were collected in relation to housework regarding the perceived behaviour of participants&rsquo; parents, of themselves, and of their (grand)children (N=14). Observational data was also collected from the members of one of the families for triangulation purposes. Following the six-phase process of thematic analysis, we extracted three main themes: individual learning, horizontal transmission, and vertical transmission. While only few instances were categorised as &lsquo;individual learning&rsquo;, the instances of horizontal and vertical transmission were numerous, and included the transmission of dichotomous traits. Thus, we explored why some cultural variants outcompete others and how certain learning and teaching mechanisms lead to increased stability and longevity. Vertical congruence was observed during the transmission of a dichotomous cultural trait: transmitters who acquired two variants of the same trait (one horizontally and one vertically) chose to vertically transmit onward to learners &ndash; i.e., their (grand)children &ndash; the variant which they had previously acquired vertically (i.e., from their own parents or grandparents), even if they exhibited both variants themselves. Horizontal congruence was observed even in sibling-to-sibling transmission, as the transmitter (older sibling) transmitted onward to the learner (younger sibling) the cultural variants which he/she had previously acquired from a peer (even if these were in competition with vertically acquired alternatives). Finally, we discuss the effects of the mother/wife-transmitter, who can weaken the effects of the vertical-congruence effect in the case of her spouse and enhance them in the case of their children.</p>

Viral Communication: Trajectories of Experience through the Pandemic - A Qualitative Longitudinal Dataset

<p>Here, we present a dataset collected within a longitudinal interview study that has been conducted as part of a larger project (i.e., Viral Communication), exploring (changing) public attitudes and behaviours through the course of the pandemic in Germany. From a nationally representative survey, forty participants were purposively sampled on the basis of gender, age and socioeconomic status for the interviews. Each participant was interviewed three times within a 10 month time frame (between December 2020 and September 2021), with the exception of two dropouts from the study. The semi-structured interviews were developed to further elaborate on some of the responses in the survey instrument and to provide additional insights into topics and controversies surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany, such as information/misinformation, trust/distrust, compliance, vaccination, and conspiracy beliefs.&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Interviews Phase I (December 2020): 40 Interviews</li> <li>Interviews Phase II (April 2021): 38 Interviews</li> <li>Interviews Phase III (September 2021): 38 Interviews</li> </ul>

<p>Anhänge zu dem Aufsatz: <strong>Stabilität und Instabilität im semantischen Wandel: Eine quantitative und qualitative Untersuchung auf dem Gebiet der Körperteile im Indogermanischen.</strong></p> <p>Die Wörter, die die Körperteile bezeichnen, stellen einen wichtigen Anteil jeder Sprache dar und gelten als relativ konservative Termini, oft aus älteren Sprachstufen ererbt. Nichtsdestotrotz sind diese Wörter unterschiedlich stabil je nach Sprache bzw. Sprachfamilie und je nach Körperteil. Der Zweck dieses Aufsatzes ist die Untersuchung dieses Sprachfeldes mit dem Ziel, die Tendenzen dieses Sprachwandels zu identifizieren und mögliche Erklärungen und Gründe dieses Phänomens zu finden. Dafür werden 50 Körperteile in 19 verschiedenen indogermanischen Sprachen aus 4 Sprachfamilien (Griechisch, Romanisch, Germanisch und Slawisch) verglichen und nach gewissen Kriterien systematisch analysiert. Für die Analyse wird eine Stabilitätsskala entwickelt, die neben den etymologischen Erklärungen eine effektive Untersuchung mit quantifizierbaren und statistischen Ergebnissen ermöglicht.  </p>

Quantitative and qualitative description of plastic chemical additives releases

<p>The folder "HPLC-ESI-MS data on the characterization of mulching film additives.rar" available on Zenodo includes liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry raw data (as .txt files) of the analyses of the additivies carried out on two biodegradable mulch films (PBAT-based, coded as BIO). Barriers to home exercise for patients with Parkinson's disease – a qualitative study

<p><strong>Objective</strong>: This study aimed to explore the barriers to home exercise for patients with Parkinson's disease (PwPDs) and provide guidelines for healthcare providers (HcPs) to  build and implement home exercise strategies for PwPDs.</p> <p><strong>Design</strong>: A qualitative descriptive method was used. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and thematic analysis was employed.</p> <p><strong>Setting</strong>: The study was conducted in the Department of Neurology at a Grade 3 Class A general hospital in China.</p> <p><strong>Participants</strong>: A total of 22 participants were interviewed, including 10 PwPDs, seven caregivers, two nurses, one head nurse, and two Parkinson's clinicians.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong>: Five themes were identified in this analysis. (1) Psychosomatic stress and low activity; (2) lack of early rehabilitation authorisation; (3) poor "flow" state of home exercise; (4) inaccessibility of continued service; (5) sociocultural impact on family coping.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong>: PwPDs, caregivers, and specialised medical staff raised the challenges faced by patients' home exercises from different perspectives. Interventions can improve services and integrate resources through the management of multi-disciplinary, early rehabilitation authorisation, exercise experience, continuous service mode, and family coping strategies under different cultures to gradually adjust the home exercise behaviour of PwPDs.</p>
