Key landscapes for the conservation of biodiversity in Sub-Saharan Africa. Proposal for modification of polygons. BIOPAMA.

Key Landscapes for Conservation (KLC) are areas recognised to be of global wildlife importance with intact ecosystems that are capable of sustaining wildlife populations in the face of increasing isolation from other similar areas (Larger Than Elephants - Inputs for EU strategic approach to wildlife conservation in Africa - Regional Analysis, European Commission, 2016).

In 2019 and 2020, following discussions with experts, the JRC proposed an update of the layer published in 2016. The 2020 layer was created in QGIS with python (10.5281/zenodo.8207793).

The layer is available in three different data formats: ESRI shapefile, geojson and kml.

The document KLC_modifications_20200922.pdf illustrates the proposed changes relative to the 2016 version of the polygons.

Supporting data for von Fromm et al. (2023) Controls on timescales of soil organic carbon persistence across sub-Saharan Africa

This file contains the supporting data for von Fromm et al. (2024) Controls on timescales of soil organic carbon persistence across sub-Saharan Africa, Global Change Biology, https://doi.org/10.1111/gcb.17089

We used wet soil chemistry data from Vågen et al., 2021 (https://doi.org/10.34725/DVN/66BFOB). In addition, we added newly measured radiocarbon data, extracted global climate data, gross primary productivity and quantified soil mineralogy based on X-ray powder diffraction data. Turnover time for carbon (mean C age) was calculated from Δ14C (‰) values by using an one-pool model. For more details about the sampling, calculations, and units see the associated publication. To reproduce all analysis, including calculating the mean C age, please visit the author's github page: https://github.com/SophievF/AfSIS_14C.

The dataset is also part of the International Soil Radiocarbon Database (https://soilradiocarbon.org/).

Assessing Grid Affordability for Universal Electricity Access in Sub-Saharan Africa

This repository contains all the necessary original data for the publication "Assessing Grid Affordability for Universal Electricity Access in Sub-Saharan Africa." It includes the original documents detailing the tariff structures of 48 SSA countries, as well as population data, the Gini index, and gross national income per capita, which are used to simulate income distribution. Additionally, it provides calculator tools for estimating electricity bills based on the Multi-Tier Framework and assessing grid electricity affordability by comparing simulated income with electricity costs.

The related code and result datasets supporting this publication are available through the GitHub public repository: https://rb.gy/f68tx5.

European Investment Bank: Lending to Sub-Saharan Africa (2000-2022)

The provided dataset traces the financial trajectory of the European Investment Bank (EIB) from 2000 to 2022, and has been derived from the EIB's annual financial reports. These reports offer a comprehensive account of the EIB's lending activities globally and specifically to countries outside of the European Union (non-EU or extra-EU), including and excluding the UK in the aftermath of Brexit. All numbers are in 2015 euros.

However, the EIB's annual reports do not explicitly present an aggregate view of its lending activities in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Therefore, this dataset is particularly valuable as it combines the country-level data from the reports to provide an overview of the EIB's total lending to SSA over this period.
