Childhood Cancer Data Initiative (CCDI): Molecular Characterization across Pediatric Brain Tumors and Other Solid and Hematologic Malignancies for Research, Diagnostic, and Precision Medicine
This study contains tumor and germline WGS, RNA-Seq, Clinical Panel Sequencing, and other omics and molecular data for patients with pediatric brain tumors and other solid and hematologic malignancies. This data has been collected from multiple organizations including the multi-institute Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN), the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC), and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Division for Genomic Diagnostics (CHOP DGD). In 2019, the CBTN launched the Pediatric Brain Tumor Atlas, which now comprises the largest collection of childhood brain tumor data in the world. This resource is helping accelerate not only brain tumor research, but is also empowering discovery for other rare childhood conditions. This sequencing cohort defines the largest, clinically annotated pediatric brain tumor cohort study to date and seeks to define the intersection of germline and somatic underpinnings of pediatric brain tumors across a shared developmental context of cancer and structural birth defects.
Pediatric Brain Tumor Atlas: CBTN
The Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN) supports the research of new prognostic biomarkers and therapies for children with pediatric brain tumors. This collaborative research effort is comprised of a network of dozens of top-tier pediatric research institutions across four continents and has enrolled thousands of childhood research subjects, collected more 60,000 tubes of specimens since its formation. These specimen collections are all highly annotated and are paired with longitudinal clinical data, genomic data, imaging data and histology data and are available for request by researchers across the world.
The Brain Tumor Segmentation in Pediatric Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in children. Pediatric high-grade gliomas, particularly diffuse midline gliomas (DMGs), have a dismal prognosis, with five-year survival rates below 20%. The BraTS-PEDs dataset provides a comprehensive, multi-institutional, international resource focused on this disease. It includes 457 pediatric patients with high-grade gliomas, primarily DMGs, aggregated from major pediatric neuro-oncology consortia and institutions, including the Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN), DMG/DIPG Registry, and multiple academic centers. The dataset contains multiparametric structural MRI, expert tumor segmentations, imaging acquisition parameters, demographic variables, and clinical outcomes such as overall and progression-free survival. By integrating standardized imaging, annotations, and clinical data, BraTS-PEDs enables reproducible research and accelerates translation of imaging science into clinical impact.

<p>To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed framework, three open medical image datasets were compiled. The datasets include retinal fundus images, brain MRI images without tumors, and brain MRI images with tumors. These datasets were selected to represent a wide range of applications and cover variations in color channels, imaging sequences, and organs of interest. The images vary in characteristics and regions of interest are delineated differently.</p>
