Dataset for: Fifty years of research on questionable research practices in science: Quantitative analysis of co-citation patterns

<p>Questionable research practices (QRPs) have been the focus of the scientific community amid greater scrutiny and evidence highlighting issues with replicability across many fields of science. To capture the most impactful publications and the main thematic domains in the literature on QRPs, this study uses a document co-citation analysis. The analysis was conducted on a sample of 341 documents that covered the past 50 years of research in QRPs. Nine major thematic clusters emerged. Statistical reporting and statistical power emerged as key areas of research, where systemic-level factors in how research is conducted are consistently raised as the precipitating factors for QRPs. There is also an encouraging shift in the focus of research into open science practices designed to address engagement in QRPs. Such a shift is indicative of the growing momentum of the open science movement, and more research can be conducted on how these practices are employed on the ground and how their uptake by researchers can be further promoted. However, the results suggest that, while pre-registration and registered reports receive the most research interest, less attention has been paid to other open science practices (e.g., data and methods sharing).</p>

Data from: Integrating variation in bacterial-fungal co-occurrence network with soil carbon dynamics

<p>Bacteria and fungi are core microorganisms in diverse ecosystems, and their cross-kingdom interactions are considered key determinants of microbiome structure and ecosystem functioning. However, how bacterial-fungal interactions mediate soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics remains largely unexplored in the context of artificial forest ecosystems. Here, we characterized soil bacterial and fungal communities in four successive planting of Eucalyptus and compared them to a neighboring evergreen broadleaf forest. Carbon (C) mineralization combined with five C-degrading enzymatic activities was investigated to determine the effects of successive planting of Eucalyptus on SOC dynamics. Our results indicated that successive planting of Eucalyptus significantly altered the diversity and structure of soil bacterial and fungal communities and increased the negative bacterial-fungal associations. The bacterial diversity significantly decreased in all Eucalyptus plantations compared to the evergreen forest, while the fungal diversity showed the opposite trend. The ratio of negative bacterial-fungal associations increased with successive planting of Eucalyptus due to the decrease in SOC, ammonia nitrogen (NH4+−N), nitrate nitrogen (NO3−−N), and available phosphorus (AP). Structural equation modeling indicated that the potential cross-kingdom competition, based on the ratio of negative bacterial-fungal correlations, was significantly negatively associated with the diversity of total bacteria and keystone bacteria, thereby increasing C-degrading enzymatic activities and C mineralization.</p> <p>Synthesis and applications: Our results highlight the regulatory role of the negative bacterial-fungal association in enhancing the correlation between bacterial diversity and C mineralization. This suggests that promoting short-term successive planting in the management of Eucalyptus plantations can mitigate the impact of this association on SOC decomposition. Taken together, our study advances the understanding of bacterial-fungal negative associations to mediate carbon mineralization in Eucalyptus plantations, giving us a new insight into SOC cycling dynamics in artificial forests.</p>

Fluctuation electron microscopy data from amorphous Tb-Co and SiNx

<p>These datasets were used for fluctuation electron microscopy (FEM) analysis of&nbsp;amorphous Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83</sub>.&nbsp;The Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83</sub> is 30&nbsp;nm thick. The deposited Ta is sandwiched between two layers of amorphous 10 nm-thick SiN<sub>x</sub>. Data are&nbsp;also provided for SiN<sub>x</sub>&nbsp;deposited on&nbsp;SiN<sub>x</sub>. Samples include: (1)&nbsp;Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83&nbsp;</sub>deposited at 20<sup>o</sup>C, (2)&nbsp;Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83&nbsp;</sub>deposited at 200<sup>o</sup>C, (3)&nbsp;Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83&nbsp;</sub>deposited at 300<sup>o</sup>C, (4)&nbsp;Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83&nbsp;</sub>deposited at 20<sup>o</sup>C and annealed at&nbsp;200<sup>o</sup>C, and (5)&nbsp;Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83&nbsp;</sub>deposited at 20<sup>o</sup>C and annealed at 300<sup>o</sup>C.</p> <p>FEM patterns were collected in a FEI TitanX operated at 200 kV with a convergence angle of 0.51 mrad and a camera length of 300 mm.&nbsp;</p> <p>Samples (1) Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83&nbsp;</sub>deposited at 20<sup>o</sup>C and (3)&nbsp;Tb<sub>17</sub>Co<sub>83&nbsp;</sub>deposited at 300<sup>o</sup>C&nbsp;were tilted between 0<sup>o</sup>&nbsp;and 40<sup>o</sup>&nbsp;in 5<sup>o</sup>&nbsp;increments. The tilted FEM data is also included.</p> <p><strong>File types</strong></p> <p>.dm4 (Gatan DigitalMicrograph) files are provided with the raw scanning nanodiffraction data for each sample. Schenuit Rubber Co. factory

The Frank G. Schenuit Rubber Co. factory was located at 1750-60 Union Avenue in Baltimore. Built in the 1840s as a cotton mill, from 1925 to the late 60s, the building was used to manufacture tires. Sadly, it is currently being demolished with plans for a self-storage facility to be built in its place. I will miss seeing the iconic smokestack during my commute to work each day! The Whitby Stone Company was formed in 1832, by the same Whitby based businessmen who were involved in the horse-drawn Whitby and Pickering Railway. The aim of the Stone Company was to transport sandstone, ironstone and whinstone from the Grosmont area to a stone quay at Boghall, Whitby for export to such places as London, Margate, Ramsgate and Tangier.. G. W. Waddington was a founder member and is now buried in Grosmont churchyard. The unusual thing about this rail, from the earliest productive mine into the Cleveland ironstone in Grosmont, is that is it plateway rather than the usual bridge rail.
