Epigenetic Profiling of Social Communication Trajectories and Co-occurring Mental Health Problems: A Prospective, Methylome-wide Association Study
<p>While previous studies suggest that both genetic and environmental factors play an important role in the development of autism-related traits, little is known about potential biological mechanisms underlying these associations. Using data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), we examined prospective associations between DNA methylation (DNAm: N-birth=804, N-age7=877) and trajectories of social communication deficits (8-17 years). Methylomic variation at three loci across the genome (false discovery rate=0.048) differentiated children following high (n=80) versus low (n=724) trajectories of social communication deficits. This differential DNAm was specific to the neonatal period and not observed at age 7. Associations between DNAm and trajectory membership remained robust after controlling for co-occurring mental health problems (i.e., hyperactivity/inattention, conduct problems). The three loci identified at birth were not replicated in the Generation R Study. However, to the best of our knowledge, ALSPAC is the only study to date that is prospective enough to examine DNAm in relation to longitudinal trajectories of social communication deficits from late childhood to late adolescence. Although the present findings might point to potentially novel sites that differentiate between a high versus low trajectory of social communication deficits, the results should be considered tentative until further replicated.</p> <p>This dataset contains summary statistics for the methylome-wide association study using DNAm data collected from individuals at age 7.</p> <p>Upload of this dataset was completed by The EWAS Catalog team. Impact of COVID-19 on mental health and wellbeing in Austria: Dataset
<p>The study "Impact of COVID-19 on mental health and wellbeing in Austria" aims to explore the impact that the COVID-19 outbreak is having on people's mental health and wellbeing in Austria from the perspective of Capability Approach. The Capability Approach is a theoretical framework that proposes that wellbeing is determined by people's freedom to engage in forms of being and doing that are of intrinsic value to the person. The online questionnaire includes a standardised assessment measure to assess wellbeing from a capability perspective (OxCAP-MH), along with other commonly used standardised assessment measures for determining levels of common mental disorders (HADS), wellbeing (WHO-5), and social support (MSPSS).</p> <p>In the first wave of the study that was conducted in May-June 2020, a total of 560 adult Austrian residents responded to an online survey about their experiences durig Covid-19 lockdown which was implemented between 15 March and 15 April 2020 in Austria. The presented dataset provides data gathered during the study that are relevant to assess the capability and wellbeing impacts of Covid-19-related variables. Prevalence of Mental Health in Relation to Religious Practices in A Contemporary Small-scale Older Amdo Tibetans
<p>This dataset includes survey and wearable device data collected from elderly Amdo Tibetans in 2023. The study explores the relationship between religious participation (such as prayer, kowtow, and pilgrimage) and both physical and mental health outcomes. Data were collected through household interviews and wearable wristbands to provide objective measures of physical activity. Participants with a history of mental health issues were excluded. The dataset provides insights into the health impacts of religious practices in a rural, subsistence-based lifestyle.</p>

Effect of social media on mental health during Covid-19 lockdowns in India
<p>As the COVID-19 pandemic restricted individuals to their houses for a substantial amount of time, people took to the virtual world to stay connected with their peers, family and friends. Likewise, news channels and other forms of electronic media also witnessed a steep rise in viewership all across the globe. That being said, social media has led to adverse impacts on the mental health of individuals through addiction, stress, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress syndromes.</p> <p>The primary objective of this data is to analyze both the positive and negative effects of social media usage on individuals during an unprecedented global lockdown. Existing literature has found significant connections between the use of social media and mental health during extensive periods of lockdown (Swarnam. S., 2021; Pragholapat, A., 2020., Hong, W. et al., 2020). This dataset is used to understand the extent of depression and anxiety experienced by persons restricted to stay-at-home confinements during the deadly second wave of Covid-19 lockdown in India. Information has also been collected to associate social media usage during a lockdown and suicidal tendencies if any.</p>
