Beliefs in conspiracy theories, intolerance of uncertainty, and moral disengagement during the coronavirus crisis

<p>This study investigated the effect of conspiracy ideation, moral disengagement, and intolerance of uncertainty on compliance with the anti-SARS-COV-2 social distancing rules and two other facets of people&rsquo;s reactions towards the coronavirus crisis. A convenience sample of 245 Romanians completed an online survey in March 2020. Results indicate that conspiracy ideation is associated with lower assessments of virus risk and lower compliance with the confinement measures. Moral disengagement had a parallel effect of undermining personal compliance to the social distancing regulations, highlighting the need to define social distancing as morally relevant and prevent individual justifications for non-compliance.&nbsp;</p>

PMID: 33947515.</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p><strong>Aim:&nbsp;</strong>This study aimed to develop and validate a nursing self-efficacy scale for OAC management (SE-OAM).</p> <p><strong>Background:&nbsp;</strong>Oral anticoagulant therapy (OAC) requires specific nursing competencies. Given that self-efficacy acts as a proxy assessment of nursing competence, its measurement is pivotal for addressing educational programs to enhance nursing competence in managing OAC. Thus far, the measurement of self-efficacy in OAC is undermined by the unavailability of valid and reliable tools.</p> <p><strong>Methods:&nbsp;</strong>A multi-method and multi-phase design was adopted: Phase one was a methodological study encompassing developmental tasks for generating items. Phase two comprised the validation process for determining the content validity, construct and concurrent validity, and internal consistency through two cross-sectional data collections.</p> <p><strong>Results:&nbsp;</strong>In total, 190 nurses were enrolled for determining the psychometric structure of the SE-OAM through an exploratory approach, and 345 nurses were subsequently enrolled to corroborate its most plausible factor structure derived from the exploratory analysis. The SE-OAM showed evidence of face and content validity, adequate construct, concurrent validity, good internal consistency, and stability. The final version of the scale encompassed 21 items kept by five domains: clinical management, care management, education, clinical monitoring, and care monitoring.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions:&nbsp;</strong>The SE-OAM showed evidence of initial validity and reliability, fulfilling a current gap in the availability of tools for measuring nursing self-efficacy in managing OAC. SE-OAM could be strategic for performing research to improve the quality of OAC management by enhancing nursing self-efficacy.</p>

Development and Validation of a Self-Determination Theory-Based Measure of Motivation to Exercise and Diet in Children

<p>Objective: To develop and test the factorial structure of a new self-determination theory&ndash;based measure of behavioral regulation in children.<br> Methods: Five hundred ninety 590 (F = 51.7%) children aged 7 to 11 years completed the Motivation to Exercise and Diet (MED-C) questionnaire, which comprises 16 items (eight for exercise and eight for diet) grouped into eight factors (five motivations and<br> three needs). Psychometric testing included confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency. Measurement invariance analyses were also performed to evaluate whether the factorial structure of the MED-C was equivalent for gender (male vs. female), age<br> (&gt;9 vs. &lt;10 years), and the perception of having at least one parent with overweight or obesity (yes vs. no).<br> Results: Factorial analysis confirmed an acceptable factors solution for the MED-C and a good fit to the data for both the exercise and the diet subscales assessed independently. The maximal reliability coefficient revealed good reliability for the exercise<br> and the diet subscales. Moreover, the MED-C factor structure was invariant across group comparisons.<br> Discussion: Findings support the construct validity and reliability of the MEDC. Therefore, it represents the first validated instrument simultaneously measuring motivational regulation and psychological need satisfaction in the context of children&rsquo;s exercise and diet. Considering the goodness of these results, scale percentile ranks of the total score distribution as well as the z score and the T score were provided for clinical and research purposes.<br> Conclusion: The MED-C might support the understanding of motivations and needs of children with weight problems and assist their process of behavioral change in primary and secondary prevention programs. Psychological factors represent, in fact, potential<br> targets for interventions to increase children&rsquo;s motivation to exercise and diet.</p>

Theory of Mind assessed via real life materials in Chronic Migraine with Medication Overuse.

<p>Dataset refers to a study aimed to outline the Theory of Mind (ToM) functioning of patients with Chronic Migraine with Medication Overuse (CM+MO) compared to Episodic Migraine (EM) using the Movie for the Assessment of Social Cognition (MASC), a task consisting of the presentation of a 15-minute video clip of social interactions close to real life encounters in which participants are asked to identify and attribute mental states online. Seventy-two subjects were enrolled, of which 30 suffered from CM+MO and 42 from EM. All participants were assessed with a conventional ToM task, the Reading Mind in the Eyes test (RMET), and the MASC. We confirm impaired ToM performances in CM+MO with respect to EM when using the RMET. Interestingly, we also found that CM+MO when compared to EM were characterized by more marked deficits in the affective ToM dimension of the MASC with respect to the cognitive one and committed more hypomentalizing errors. This means that CM+MO patients may be more prone to under-interpret and misunderstand intended social interaction from another human being than the EM group. These findings have important theoretical and practical relevance in the field of CM+MO.</p>

This talk will discuss some of the issues and algorithms developed to analyze and discover patterns in these data sets. We will also provide an overview of a large research program in Integrated Vehicle Health Management. The goal of this program is to develop advanced technologies to automatically detect, diagnose, predict, and mitigate adverse events during the flight of an aircraft. A case study will be presented on a recent data mining analysis performed to support the Flight Readiness Review of the Space Shuttle Mission STS-119.
