Historic Ceramic Pitcher
This historic ceramic pitcher was discovered during excavations in honor Michigan State University's sesquicentennial celebration. The pitcher has a relatively simple form with the only embelishment occuring on the handle, indicating that it's function is more utilitarian than it is decorative. The pitcher was found in an area where Michigan State University's first dorm, Saints' Rest, was erected. Built in 1856, Saint's Rest acted as the primary dorm on campus until Williams Hall was built in 1871. Unfortunately, Saints' Rest caught fire and burnt down during the winter of 1876. Historic Ceramic Sherd - Tall Ship
This ceramic sherd was uncovered on Michigan State University's campus during the summer 2018 field season through a shovel test survey on the north bank of the Red Cedar River. It has the image of a tall ship on it through the process of transfer printing. This model was created by CAP Fellow Jack A. Biggs using photogrammetry and Agisoft PhotoScan. Johnson Brothers Flow Blue Ceramic Dish
This dish fragment was found at the Gunson site at MSU in 2015. It's a flow blue earthenware dish, meaning the blue transfer print bled or flowed out of its bounds during the firing process. This style was invented in England in the 1820s but did not become popular in the US until the end of the 19th century. The maker's mark reads "MONTANA" (the specific style), shows a crown, and followed by "JOHNSON BROS | ENGLAND". Johnson Brothers was a ceramic company from Staffordshire that began in the 1890s. Although they had many styles, the became best known for their flow blue ceramics. These were cheaper and tougher while still presenting as elegant. The Montana style on this dish was started in the early 20th century and was likely used by the Gunson household during dinner parties. Gunson was a very popular professor at the institution and routinely dined with students, faculty, and alumni, making him a staple of the Expansion Phase of campus history. Model made by Jack A. It is always amazing to see the different ceramic fragments which can be found on the shore of Avoch bay. This one in particular grabbed my attention. I assume the stamped "2" relates to the capacity of the vessel, but what it contained originally, we can only guess. If anybody out there can elucidate, please feel free to comment! This piece, along with the requirement for social distancing during the Covid-19 crisis, also gave me the opportunity to 'try out' an indoor photogrammetry turntable I had made! An Image-Based Gamut Analysis of Translucent Digital Ceramic Prints for Coloured Photovoltaic Modules: Supplementary Data
<p>Colouring the frontglass of PV modules via digital ceramic printing aids in concealing the PV when integrated into existing building façades as BIPV, while admitting sufficient light to produce electricity. This promotes the visual acceptance and adoption of PV as a source of renewable energy in urban environments. The effective colour of the PV laminate is a combination of the transparent colour on glass and the colour of the PV cells. This colour should ideally match the architect’s visual expectations in terms of fidelity, but also in terms of relative PV efficiency as a function of print density. In practice, these requirements are often contradictory, particularly for vivid colours, and the visual results may deviate significantly. This paper presents an objective analysis of how colours appear on PV frontglass laminated with a PV module, using an image-based colour acquisition process. Given a set of 1044 nominal colours uniformly distributed in the RGB colour space, each printed in 10 opacities, we quantify the range of effective colours observed when printed on glass and combined with PV, and their deviation from the nominals. Our results confirm that the effective colour gamuts are significantly constrainted and skewed, depending on the ink volume and glass finish used for printing. In particular, blue-magenta hues cannot be reliably rendered with this process. These insights can serve as guidelines for selecting target colours for BIPV that can be well approximated in practice.</p>

<p>The Excel-Sheet contains information (location of the site, chronological position, type of site, archaeological culture, literature, photographies and drawings, analysis made, results of the analysis, etc.) about the samples taken in the Volkswagen Fond Project no. 90 216 "Early mounted nomads and their vessels Ceramic analysis project aimed at supporting the reconstruction of socio-economic conditions in mobile populations north of the Black Sea between 1100 and 600 BC".</p> <p>The project itself focuses on contacts and interactions between groups with different material culture remains in two vegetation zones to the north of the Black Sea.The investigation takes a complex archaeometric approach to characterise the pottery of communities that lived in the forest steppe zone and steppe zone to the north of the Black Sea between the Dniester and Dnieper rivers between 1100 and 600 BC. By using an multidisciplinary approach to study the material culture of these communities with mobile lifeways, this project will allow the comparison of the natural science and archaeological data for the first time.</p> <p>The Excel-Sheet presents the results of various analyses performed during the project and serves as the database for publications of the project members.</p>
Studies on 3D printing of Na3Zr2Si2PO12 ceramic solid electrolyte through Fused Filament Fabrication
<p><span>Solid-state batteries are considered being the next step in battery technology to achieve higher energy densities and potentially safer batteries. As there is no organic liquid, the risk of flammability is drastically reduced. Nevertheless, there are numerous challenges associated with the realization of all-solid-state batteries, such as improving slow kinetics, contact interface issues between battery components and cell integration among others. 3D printing holds the potential to address these issues as it <span> </span>allows to improve kinetics by structuring the battery components and the possibility of a customized cell integration. A structured surface of the electrolyte can in principle also enhance interface effects with the metal electrode. To contribute in this regard, composite filaments with Na<sub>3</sub>Zr<sub>2</sub>Si<sub>2</sub>PO<sub>12</sub> were fabricated and 3D printed. Subsequent sintering of the printed parts after removal of the polymer components led to the required densification of the fully ceramic electrolyte. The parts were microstructurally and electrochemically characterized and showed a reasonable performance with an ionic conductivity of (3.02 ± 0.14) · 10<sup>-4</sup> S·cm<sup>-1</sup> at 20 °C. Critical current density testing revealed stable cycling up to 200 mA·cm<sup>-2</sup>, with cell failure occurring at a current density of 750 mA·cm<sup>-2</sup>, demonstrating the application potential of 3D printed full ceramic solid electrolytes. </span></p>

<p>This dataset is a complete set of raw, processed and analyzed data, associated with the manuscript mentioned in the title. </p> <p>Data is stored in HDF5 containers following the NeXus structure definitions. Data is in absolute units, and with traceable scattering and intensity values following our "MOUSE" methodology, described in <a href="https://dx.doi.org/10.1088/1748-0221/16/06/P06034">10.1088/1748-0221/16/06/P06034</a> Data on the samples as well as backgrounds have been included as well as the processing sequence and -values. Data has been processed using the <a href="https://dx.doi.org/10.1107/S1600576717004708">DAWN software package</a>. </p> <p>All associated metadata and processing history has been added. Particle size distribution analyses using McSAS are included as well. </p> <p>The samples consisted of a 4.2 mass% dispersion of yttria-stabilized zirconia nanoparticles in a cross-linked matrix. The measurements show a good dispersion with minimal agglomeration. The wide-angle region shows diffraction information consistent with zirconia. </p>

Measurements of Natural Radioactivity and Radiological Hazards Assessment in Some Commercial Ceramic Tiles used in Ethiopia.
<p>Ceramic tile is a widely used decorative building material. The natural radionuclideconcentration ( 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K) of ceramic wall and floor tiles typically used in Ethiopia was determined using an HPG detector. The study&#39;s goals are to determine the activity concentration of ceramic tiles as well as evaluate their health-related effects. The average activity concentrations of 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K were 68.06 ± 2.07 Bq kg -1 , 131.19 ± 3.82 Bq kg -1 , and 802.04 ± 23.41 Bq kg -1 , respectively, which was found to be greater than the global mean. The calculated average value of Raeq was &lt; 370 Bq kg -1 , which is the limiting dose recommended for bulk medium. In addition, the related radiological hazard metrics, such as absorbed dose, annual effective dose equivalent, excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR), internal (H in ) and external (H ex ) hazard indexes, gamma index (I γ ), and alpha index (I α ), were determined. The findings were contrasted with regional, global,and national legal frameworks as well as other similar studies&#39; findings. According to the results, using the examined ceramic tiles in buildings does not significantly increase radiation exposure.</p>
Hyperspectral dataset: Ceramic tiles in dry and underwater setting
<p>The objective of this experiment was to observe the changes in spectral information of a calibration tile when placed underwater. For this purpose, the SPECIM IQ hyperspectral camera was used which operates in Visible and near infra-red regions (400-1000nm) with a spectral resolution FWHM of 7nm resulting in 204 bands in a data cube.</p> <p>To establish a baseline for comparison, data was acquired before submerging the calibration tile into water. Then the tile was immersed in water and data was recorded under two settings i.e., outdoor and indoor. The latter provided a controlled environment where a halogen lamp was used as the light source. Lastly, the tile was removed and data was captured both outside and inside once it had dried off. The data was annotated to enable comparison of similar data points under different conditions.</p> <p> </p>
