<p>In this data-set, based on the geochemical data of C2 coal seam in the Fengfeng mining area of the Handan Coalfield in Hebei (China), where provided ideal coal samples changing continuously from low-rank metamorphic coal to high-rank metamorphic coal, the coincidence degree (or similarity degree) between the geochemical behavior of 57 elements and the periodic variation of elements during the thermal metamorphism process is calculated.</p>

Inventory of coal mining caused landslides and fissures in the center Chinese Loess Plateau
<p>A new inventory of coal mining caused landslides and fissures in the center of the Chinese Loess Plateau was generated based on four high-resolution DOMs conducted by UAV surveys and field investigations from 2020 to 2023. The field named "area" in the attribute tables of shapefiles named "2020_Landslides", "2021_Landslides", "2022_Landslides", and "2023_Landslides" indicates the area of the landslides (square meter) , and the "Time" indicates the occurred year of landslides. The field named "Length" in the attribute tables of shapefiles named "2020_Fissures", "2021_Fissures", "2022_Fissures", and "2023_Fissures" indicates the length of the fissures (meter), and the "Time" indicates the occurred year of fissures. The inventory of landslides and fissures in 2020 published by Yang et al., (2022) was referenced when we conducted visual interpretation.</p>

Asymmetric allelic introgression across a hybrid zone of the coal tit (Periparus ater) in the central Himalayas
<p>In the Himalayas, a number of secondary contact zones have been described for vicariant vertebrate taxa. However, analyses of genetic divergence and admixture are missing for most of these examples. In this study, we provide a population genetic analysis for the coal tit (<i>Periparus ater</i>) hybrid zone in Nepal. Intermediate phenotypes between the distinctive western 'spot-winged tit' (<i>P. a. melanolophus</i>) and e<span class="msoDel">E</span>astern Himalayan coal tits (<i>P. a. aemodius</i>) occur across a narrow range of less than 100 km in western Nepal. As a peculiarity, another distinctive cinnamon-bellied form is known from a single population so far. Genetic admixture of western and eastern mitochondrial lineages was restricted to the narrow zone of phenotypically intermediate populations. The cline width was estimated 46 km only with a center close to the population of the cinnamon-bellied phenotype. In contrast, allelic introgression of microsatellite loci was asymmetrical from eastern <i>P. a. aemodius</i> into far western populations of phenotypic <i>P. a. melanolophus</i> but not vice versa. Accordingly, the microsatellite cline was about 3.7 times wider than the mitochondrial one.</p>

Methane and carbon dioxide cumulative amounts data for: Algal amendment enhances biogenic methane production from coals of different thermal maturity
<p>The addition of small amounts of algal biomass to stimulate methane production in coal seams is a promising low carbon renewable coalbed methane enhancement technique. However, little is known about how the addition of algal biomass amendment affects methane production from coals of different thermal maturity. Here, we show that biogenic methane can be produced from five coals ranging in rank from lignite to low-volatile bituminous using a coal-derived microbial consortium in batch microcosms with and without algal amendment. The addition of 0.1 g/L algal biomass resulted in maximum methane production rates up to 37 days earlier and decreased the time required to reach maximum methane production by 17–19 days when compared to unamended, analogous microcosms. Cumulative methane production and methane production rate were generally highest in low rank, subbituminous coals, but no clear association between increasing vitrinite reflectance and decreasing methane production could be determined. Microbial community analysis revealed that archaeal populations were correlated with methane production rate (p=0.01), vitrinite reflectance (p=0.03), percent volatile matter (p=0.03), and fixed carbon (p=0.02), all of which are related to coal rank and composition. Sequences indicative of the acetoclastic methanogenic genus <em>Methanosaeta</em> dominated low rank coal microcosms. Amended treatments that had increased methane production relative to unamended analogs had high relative abundances of the hydrogenotrophic methanogenic genus <em>Methanobacterium</em> and the bacterial family Pseudomonadaceae. These results suggest that algal amendment may shift coal-derived microbial communities towards coal-degrading bacteria and CO<sub>2</sub>-reducing methanogens. These results have broad implications for understanding subsurface carbon cycling in coal beds and the adoption of low carbon renewable microbially enhanced coalbed methane techniques across a diverse range of coal geology.</p>
