Data for Chandnani and Herrick, Influence of Target Properties on Wall Slumping in Lunar Impact Craters within the Simple-to-Complex Transition

<p>Data files for Figures 3 and S1 of the manuscript.&nbsp; These are craters counted in slump and ejecta units for the purpose of comparing their relative ages.</p> <p>The directory sf_shapefiles contains subdirectories for the 20 craters for which a slump unit and an ejecta unit had crater counts performed.&nbsp; The AREA_* shapefiles are polygons that outline the area studied, and the CRATER_* files are the individual craters counted.&nbsp; These files were created using CraterTools (<a href="https://www.geo.fu-berlin.de/en/geol/fachrichtungen/planet/software/_content/software/index.html">https://www.geo.fu-berlin.de/en/geol/fachrichtungen/planet/software/_content/software/index.html</a>) in ArcGIS, but that software is not necessary to use the shapefiles.&nbsp;</p> <p>The subdirectory SFD_figs_color and SFC_suppl_figs_color are, respectively, the CraterStats (https://www.geo.fu-berlin.de/en/geol/fachrichtungen/planet/software/_content/software/index.html) files used to generate Figure 3 of the main manuscript and Supplemental Figure S1.&nbsp; Each crater comprises a subdirectory of those main directories.&nbsp; Within each subdirectory, the *.plt file is the file directing CraterStats how to make the figure.&nbsp; The *.png file is the output figure from CraterStats, and the *.jpg file is the .png file after it has been cropped and the error bars have been changed from grey to black.&nbsp; The *.txt file provides the output from CraterStats that, among other things, provides the data fit of isochrons to the data.&nbsp; The *.diam files are data extracted from the shapefiles and provide the input into Craterstats.&nbsp; They have the lat-lon-diameter information on the craters and the counting area.&nbsp; All of these are commented text files, so you don&rsquo;t need CraterStats to look at them and use them.</p>

Data for: Sex-based divergence in tidal, lunar and seasonal cycles of activity in the olive sea snake, Aipysurus laevis (Elapidae, Hydrophiinae)

<p>Marine environments show strong cycles at daily (tidal), monthly (lunar) and seasonal timeframes, and the behavioural responses of marine organisms to such cycles may depend upon ecological and behavioural traits that differ between the sexes. Underwater observations of free-ranging olive sea snakes (Aipysurus laevis, Hydrophiinae, Elapidae) at a site on the southern Great Barrier Reef revealed sex-based divergences in the effects of abiotic cycles on snake activity. Female snakes were active primarily on high and rising tides that allowed access to shallow-water sites for foraging. In contrast, male snakes were active primarily on low and falling tides, especially near the time of the full moon (when tidal range is highest), conditions that may restrict a female snake's ability to evade a courting male. Males were common on the coral-reef site during winter (the mating season), but were rarely seen during summer, whereas females remained on the reef year-round. This highly sexually dimorphic species shows strong temporal separations between the sexes in patterns of activity.</p>

Apache Point Observatory Lunar Laser-ranging Operation (APOLLO) normal point data: 2006 through 2020

<p>Normal point data from the Apache Point Observatory Lunar Laser-ranging Operation (APOLLO) covering the 15-year span from April 2006 through the end of 2020. APOLLO measures the earth-moon separation by recording the round-trip travel time of photons from the Apache Point Observatory to five retro-reflector arrays on the moon. The APOLLO data set, combined with the 50-year archive of measurements from other lunar laser ranging (LLR) stations, can be used to probe fundamental physics such as gravity and Lorentz symmetry, as well as properties of the moon itself. These normal points have a median nightly accuracy of 1.7mm, which is an order of magnitude better than other LLR stations. Data is provided in both the &quot;JPL&quot; format (.np) and the&nbsp;Consolidated Laser Ranging Data Format (.crd)</p>

<p>This dataset contains the meteor radar wind measurements and the background atmospheric data fields used to produce the results in the Journal of Geophysical Research - Space Physics article titled: A case study of the solar and lunar semidiurnal tide response to the 2013 sudden stratospheric warming.</p> <p>The nav_2013_ERAn_1dm_grid.dat file contains gridded latitude-longitude-altitude daily mean winds and temperatures for the composite atmosphere described in the article. The full range of dates span from the 1st of December 2012 to the 1st of April 2023. The composite atmosphere is constructed using ERA5 winds and temperatures below 85 hPa, NAVGEM-HA winds and temperatures between 85-0.001 hPa, and HWM14 + MSISE00 winds and temperatures above 0.001 hPa.</p> <p>The meteor_radars.zip file contains a folder containing the hourly meteor radar wind measurements for the Collm (Col), CMOR (CMO), and Kiruna (Kir) radars, as described in the supporting paper. The .hdf5 files contain both the horizontal and meridional wind measurements for December, January, February, and March (winter of 2012/2013).</p>

Artificial space weathering to mimic solar wind enhances the toxicity of lunar dust simulants in human lung cells

<p>During NASA's Apollo missions, inhalation of dust particles from lunar regolith was identified as a potential occupational hazard for astronauts. These fine particles adhered tightly to spacesuits and were unavoidably brought into the living areas of the spacecraft. Apollo astronauts reported that exposure to the dust caused intense respiratory and ocular irritation. This problem is a potential challenge for the Artemis Program, which aims to return humans to the Moon for extended stays in this decade. Since lunar dust is "weathered" by space radiation, solar wind, and the incessant bombardment of micrometeorites, we investigated whether treatment of lunar regolith simulants to mimic space weathering enhanced their toxicity. Two such simulants were employed in this research, Lunar Mare Simulant-1 (LMS-1), and Lunar Highlands Simulant-1 (LHS-1), which were added to cultures of human lung epithelial cells (A549) to simulate lung exposure to the dusts. In addition to pulverization, previously shown to increase dust toxicity sharply, the simulants were exposed to hydrogen gas at high temperature as a proxy for solar wind exposure. This treatment further increased the toxicity of both simulants, as measured by the disruption of mitochondrial function, and damage to DNA both in mitochondria and in the nucleus. By testing the effects of supplementing the cells with an antioxidant (N-acetylcysteine), we showed that a substantial component of this toxicity arises from free radicals. It remains to be determined to what extent the radicals arise from the dust itself, as opposed to their active generation by inflammatory processes in the treated cells.</p>
