MATLAB Code for "Joint Image Processing with Learning-Driven Data Representation and Model Behavior for Non-Intrusive Anemia Diagnosis in Pediatric Patients"

This MATLAB code is part of the study titled "Joint Image Processing with Learning-Driven Data Representation and Model Behavior for Non-Intrusive Anemia Diagnosis in Pediatric Patients", which has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Imaging (MDPI). The code supports image processing, feature extraction, and deep learning model training (including LSTM and RexNet) to classify pediatric patients as anemic or non-anemic based on palm, conjunctival, and fingernail images. Full study details are available in this paper:

Berghout T. MATLAB code to simulate the effects of combination of control strategies on the transmission of diphtheria

This research introduced an extensive mathematical model to capture the dynamics of diphtheria transmission. The study examined the interaction of five control measures viz: routine diphtheria vaccination, often administered with tetanus and pertussis vaccines; interventions for symptomatic to isolated treatment transitions; collaborative efforts addressing asymptomatic to home quarantine transitions; surveillance measures for home quarantine to isolated treatment transitions; and vigilance to detect cases in individuals exposed to symptomatic cases. We established the epidemiological viability of the model by proving, among others, its positivity, equilibrium under endemic conditions, equilibrium in the absence of disease, global and local stability and boundedness. Also the sensitivity analysis of the model highlighted the importance of the important variables in influencing disease occurrence and spread. In addition, the control measures significantly impact virus transmission dynamics, and results from simulations demonstrated that combination of these control strategies effectively flattened the curve of diphtheria transmission. These findings provided healthcare professionals and policymakers with valuable insights into crucial measures for eradicating diphtheria from the population.

SIMToolbox: A MATLAB toolbox for structured illumination fluorescence microscopy

SIMToolbox is an open-source, modular set of functions for MATLAB equipped with a user-friendly graphical interface and designed for processing two-dimensional and three-dimen- sional data acquired by structured illumination microscopy (SIM). Both optical sectioning and super-resolution applications are supported. The software is also capable of maximum a posteriori probability image estimation (MAP-SIM), an alternative method for reconstruction of structured il- lumination images. MAP-SIM can potentially reduce reconstruction artifacts, which commonly occur due to refractive index mismatch within the sample and to imperfections in the illumination.

Matlab Algorithm for Systematic Vertical Separation Measurements of Tectonic Fault Scarps

We have studied the topography along the Lost River Fault in Idaho (USA) and in particular the rupture zone generated by the strong 1983 Borah Peak earthquake (Mw 6.9) almost 40 years after its occurrence. Our first reason for acquiring these data was to systematically measure vertical separation (VS) along the fault.
To do this we have developed and implemented a scarp analysis algorithm in MATLAB (www.mathworks.com) which enables users to measure the vertical separation from a topographic profile. The code constructs a topographic profile along the preferred trend (generally perpendicular to the fault trace) and projects the best-fit lines to each of the hanging wall and footwall flat to the fault location. The vector difference between the intersection of these lines with a vertical plane at the fault location is the vertical separation. Please see the code guide for additional detail.
