Black-gloss olla from the Necropolis of Poggio Pinci, Asciano, Tuscany, Italy Black-gloss olla, used as an urn. Light brown clay with blackish paint with some gray and brown spots. Made in Volterra in the late 4th BCE. Form produced in Volterra. Late 4th c. BCE. Produced also in other north-etrsucan workshops until the end of the 2nd c. BCE. Olla a coppette - 7th century BC
Een *olla a coppette* ('pot met kopjes') is een ceremoniële vaas die soms in graven uit de 7de eeuw v.Chr. wordt aangetroffen. Deze bijzondere aardewerkvorm heeft gewoonlijk drie of vier kopjes die verbonden zijn met een grote vaas (*olla*). Dit exemplaar heeft nog drie kleine bakjes; een vierde mist. De *olla a coppette* vervulde een belangrijke rol in het drinken van wijn tijdens begrafenisrituelen. De wijn werd gedronken uit kleine kopjes die na gebruik in de bakjes gelegd werden. Resten van witte decoratie zijn zichtbaar. **English** The *olla a coppette* 'jar with small bowls') is a ceremonial vase sometimes found in graves dating to the 7th century BC. This rather unusual vase consists of three or four small bowls connected to a larger jar (*olla*). This particular one has still got three of its four small bowls. The *olla a coppette* played an important role in the drinking of wine during burial rituals. Wine was consumed from cups that were laid down in the small bowls after use.
