May 2004 bin-averaged CTD profiles for the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Doboy Sound transect

Two hydrographic surveys were performed on May 30, 2004, along an east-to-west transect through Doboy Sound near Sapelo Island, Georgia (Doboy Sound Transect, GCE-DB). Vertical CTD profiles were collected at approximately 2km intervals from -2km to 12km along the transect during low tide and high tide conditions. Conductivity, temperature, pressure and optical backscatter were measured, and depth, salinity and sigma-t were calculated for each profile. Data values collected on the upcast were deleted, and the remaining data were averaged within 0.5m depth bins and interpolated to produce a smooth profile for contouring. This data set was collected as part of the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER quarterly hydrographic monitoring program.

Conductivity, temperature, pressure, optical back scatter, photosynthetically-available radiation, oxygen and chlorophyll a fluorescence were measured, and depth, salinity and sigma-t were calculated for each profile. Data values collected during the upcast were deleted. This data set was collected as part of the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER quarterly hydrographic monitoring program.

Continuous salinity, temperature and depth measurements from moored hydrographic data loggers deployed at GCE3_Hydro (Sapelo Sound north of Sapelo Island, Georgia) from 05-May-2004 through 31-Dec-2004

Conductivity, temperature and pressure were measured continuously at Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER sampling location GCE3_Hydro (Sapelo Sound north of Sapelo Island, Georgia) from 05-May-2004 through 31-Dec-2004. Observations were logged at 30 minute intervals by moored Sea-Bird Electronics MicroCAT 37-SM data loggers and downloaded approximately bimonthly. Salinity, depth and sigma-t were calculated from the measured parameters using standard UNESCO algorithms. This data set was collected as part of the GCE-LTER Project continuous salinity, temperature and water level monitoring program.

October 2001 bin-averaged CTD profiles for the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Doboy Sound transect

Five hydrographic surveys were performed between October 12 and October 14, 2001, along an east-to-west transect through Doboy Sound near Sapelo Island, Georgia (Doboy Sound Transect, GCE-DB). Vertical CTD profiles were collected at approximately 2km intervals from 0km to 12km along the transect during low tide and high tide conditions. Long-term water quality monitoring in the Altamaha, Doboy and Sapelo sounds and the Duplin River near Sapelo Island, Georgia from May 2001 to August 2009

Water samples were collected on Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER oceanographic monitoring cuirses approximately every three months from May 2001 through December 2006 and monthly from November 2006 to August 2009. Concentrations of dissolved nutrients (ammonium, nitrate+nitrite, phosphate), dissolved organics (DOC, DON, DOP), particulate organic carbon and nitrogen, total suspended sediment, and total particulate iron and phosphorus were measured using standard analytical methods. The concentrations of six elements (calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, silicon, and strontium) were also determined occasionally using elemental analysis by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of Doboy Sound at the mouth of the Duplin River near Sapelo Island, Georgia

The purpose of this study was to map the bathymetry of Doboy Sound near the mouth of the Duplin River adjacent to Sapelo Island, Georgia. This study extends a previous bathymetry mapping project conducted in 2009. The primary objective of the Duplin River project in 2009 was to provide data in support of understanding the sediment and water exchange process between intertidal areas and tidal creeks of the Duplin River. The Center for Marine and Wetland Studies (CMWS) surveyed the Doboy Sound using the Simrad EM3002D Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) in April 2011. A digital elevation model (DEM) was then developed based on the depth survey data.
