Frise (1/8), Bibliothèque de Toulouse

La bibliothèque d'étude et du patrimoine est une des bibliothèques municipales de Toulouse. Construite à partir de 1932, elle a été inaugurée le 30 mars 1935. ![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fr/thumb/4/49/Toulouse_Biblioth%C3%A8que_Municipale.jpg/2560px-Toulouse_Biblioth%C3%A8que_Municipale.jpg) Le bâtiment de façade présente un style très géométrique : de grandes lignes verticales et horizontales, des angles droits, des corniches saillantes caractéristiques du style Art déco. La frise, qui court de part et d'autre de la façade, est signée Sylvestre Clerc. La frise représente tous les âges de l'humanité depuis la Préhistoire jusqu'aux découvertes scientifiques les plus récentes, elle illustre l'histoire de l'émancipation de l'esprit humain. Le projet date de 1932, la frise se déroule sur une soixantaine de mètres de longueur et deux mètres de hauteur. La pierre utilisée est un calcaire blanc provenant du Poitou.
