Dynamic viscosity of liquid gallium at different temperatures

Dynamic viscosity of liquid gallium at different temperatures

Junjie Chen

Department of Energy and Power Engineering, School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Henan Polytechnic University, 2000 Century Avenue, Jiaozuo, Henan, 454000, P.R. China

Contributor: Junjie Chen, ORCID: 0000-0001-5055-4309, E-mail address: komcjj@gmail.com

Gallium is a chemical element, metal of main Group 13 of the periodic table. It liquefies just above room temperature. Gallium does not occur free or concentrated in independent minerals. It is extracted as a by-product from zinc blende, iron pyrites, bauxite, and germanite. Gallium is silvery white and soft enough to be cut with a knife. It takes on a bluish tinge because of superficial oxidation. Unusual for its low melting point, gallium also expands upon solidification and supercools readily, remaining a liquid at temperatures as low as 0 degrees Celsius. Gallium remains in the liquid phase over a temperature range of about 2,000 degrees Celsius, with a very low vapour pressure up to about 1,500 degrees Celsius, the longest useful liquid range of any element. The liquid metal clings to glass and similar surfaces. The crystal structure of gallium is orthorhombic. Natural gallium consists of a mixture of two stable isotopes: gallium-69 and gallium-71. Gallium has been considered as a possible heat-exchange medium in nuclear reactors, although it has a high neutron-capture cross section. The metal gallium is stable in dry air. Somewhat similar to aluminum chemically, gallium slowly oxidizes in moist air until a protective film forms. On burning in air or oxygen, it forms the white oxide. This oxide can be reduced to the metal when heated at high temperatures in hydrogen. Gallium is amphoteric, reacting with sodium and potassium hydroxide solutions to yield a gallate and hydrogen gas. The halogens attack it vigorously.

Temperature (degrees Celsius), Dynamic viscosity (grams per meter per second)

350 1.369

400 1.158

450 1.016

500 0.915

550 0.840

600 0.783

650 0.737

700 0.700

750 0.669

800 0.643

Contributor: Junjie Chen, ORCID: 0000-0001-5055-4309, E-mail address: komcjj@gmail.com, Department of Energy and Power Engineering, School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Henan Polytechnic University, 2000 Century Avenue, Jiaozuo, Henan, 454000, P.R. Gas viscosity of carbon dioxide along the saturation line

Gas viscosity of carbon dioxide along the saturation line

Junjie Chen

Department of Energy and Power Engineering, School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Henan Polytechnic University, 2000 Century Avenue, Jiaozuo, Henan, 454000, P.R. China

Contributor: Junjie Chen, ORCID: 0000-0001-5055-4309, E-mail address: komcjj@gmail.com

Carbon dioxide is a colourless gas having a faint sharp odour and a sour taste. Industrially, it is recovered for numerous diverse applications from flue gases, as a by-product of the preparation of hydrogen for synthesis of ammonia, from limekilns, and from other sources. At ordinary temperatures, carbon dioxide is quite unreactive; At temperatures above 1,700 degrees Celsius, it partially decomposes into carbon monoxide and oxygen. Hydrogen or carbon also convert it to carbon monoxide at high temperatures. Ammonia reacts with carbon dioxide under pressure to form ammonium carbamate, then urea, an important component of fertilizers and plastics. Carbon dioxide is slightly soluble in water, forming a weakly acidic solution. This solution contains the dibasic acid called carbonic acid. Ignited magnesium continues to burn in carbon dioxide, but the gas does not support the combustion of most materials.

Temperature (degrees Celsius), Pressure (kilopascals), Dynamic viscosity (milligrams per meter per second)

205 227 10.33

210 327 10.6

215 465 10.87

220 600 11.13

225 735 11.41

230 894 11.69

235 1075 11.98

240 1283 12.27

245 1519 12.58

250 1786 12.9

255 2085 13.24

260 2419 13.61

265 2790 14.02

270 3203 14.47

275 3658 14.99

280 4160 15.61

285 4712 16.37

290 5315 17.36

295 5984 18.79

300 6710 21.29

302 6997 23.52

Contributor: Junjie Chen, ORCID: 0000-0001-5055-4309, E-mail address: komcjj@gmail.com, Department of Energy and Power Engineering, School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Henan Polytechnic University, 2000 Century Avenue, Jiaozuo, Henan, 454000, P.R. Determinging the effect of mashing regime, protease and carbohydrase additions on viscosity development during gelatinisation of faba bean starch as well as on wort run off rate

(i) and (ii) Preliminary experiments have found that when faba bean accounts for a high proportion of the beer recipe the efficiency of the mashing step is negatively impacted with slow solid removal and reduced yields. The addition of commercial enzymes is an established practice to increase levels of fermentable sugars, nitrogen availability and wort run off rate therefore enzymatic additions have been trialled on faba bean wort.
(iii) 2019
(iv) Vicia faba
(v) N/A
(vi) A rheometer method has been developed to recreate two typical mashing regimes. Samples are milled to produce a fine grist. A fixed amount of the grist is then used to form a slurry with a calculated weight of water with enzyme additions and run on a pre-set rheometer programme. The programme consists of an initial rapid stir followed by continuous stirring as one of two potential mashing temperature regimes are followed. The slurry is then filtered and the volume of filtrate recorded over time.
(vii) An ANOVA confirmed that all three enzymes were necessary for a significant reduction in the wort flow rate.
(viii) Complete

Bayesian estimation of the specific shear and bulk viscosity of the quark-gluon plasma

This repository contains all data necessary to reproduce Bayesian parameter estimates of a computational model of relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

The computational collision model which generated the raw data is available at https://github.com/Duke-QCD/hic-eventgen. The analysis code which postprocessed the raw data and performed the parameter estimation is available at https://github.com/jbernhard/hic-param-est.

For more information, see the author's dissertation, Bayesian parameter estimation for relativistic heavy-ion collisions (arXiv:1804.06469 [nucl-th]). In particular, chapter 3 describes the computational collision model, chapter 4 describes the parameter estimation method, and section 5.3 presents the results based on this dataset.

Usage

hic-param-est-cache.tar.gz is designed to be used with the analysis code (https://github.com/jbernhard/hic-param-est).
See the documentation at http://qcd.phy.duke.edu/hic-param-est. After downloading the code, extract the data archive in the hic-param-est folder. This will create the cache directory containing the parameter design files, model calculations, and experimental data. Note that this data archive includes Python pickle files created by joblib, which is included with scikit-learn, a dependency of the analysis code.

alternate-format.hdf contains the same data in HDF5 format. This is not intended for use directly with the analysis code, but may be more convenient for other purposes.

chain.hdf contains the posterior distribution sample (the "chain") generated by MCMC sampling in HDF5 format. It may be used with the analysis code by placing it in a subfolder "mcmc" in the hic-param-est folder. It can also be regenerated by the analysis code, although this can take a long time.
