Data for: Fossil samples archive functional diversity in marine ecosystems: An empirical test from a present-day coastal environment (Tyler and Kowalewski)

Data associated with "Fossil samples archive functional diversity in marine ecosystems: An empirical test from a present-day coastal environment" by Carrie L. Tyler and Michal Kowalewski. Data include GPS coordinates for sample localities, variables quantifying multivariate space for all three assemblages, trait data for all species, and the associated R code (Functional Fidelity.zip). Abundance data is available in Tyler and Kowalewski (2023) 10.7717/peerj.15574 at https://github.com/tylercl/Multi-Taxic-Fidelity (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.7871639).

Enhancing Knowledge of the Arabian Sea Marine environment through Science and Advanced Training (EKAMSAT)
Enhancing Knowledge of the Arabian Sea Marine environment through Science and Advanced Training (EKAMSAT) is a collaborative Indo-US field campaign funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India and the Office of Naval Research, USA, focused on the acquisition of contemporary oceanographic and atmospheric datasets deemed critical for improving the predictive skills of operational monsoon models. The atmospheric and oceanographic datasets acquired will be used primarily to examine how oceanographic conditions such as recent SST increases, enhanced stratification, formation of boundary layers, a recurring warm water pool and other changes in the Arabian Sea are influencing the onset, intensity and length of the Indian monsoon. The campaign commenced with a pilot study in June 2023 in preparation for subsequent full-fledged field campaigns in May-June of 2024-2025. This and the following cruises target atmospheric and oceanographic measurements supplemented with limited bio-optical and biogeochemical observations to advance understanding of the influence of seasonally evolving mixed layer on biological productivity and biogeochemical cycling in northern Arabian Sea. Cocconeis margaritata Riaux-Gobin & Al-Handal, oblong SV areolae bordered by siliceous small beads (37–38), Cocconeis paucistriata Riaux-Gobin, Romero, Compère & Al-Handal (39, 40), SV striae composed of a unique areola on each side of the SV sternum (40, arrow), two (to three) marginal areolae (39, 40), simple process apertures on SV mantle (40, twin arrowheads). Cocconeis sigillata Riaux-Gobin & Al-Handal (41), low marginal crista marginalis and biseriate striae (41, arrowhead) split in two parts by an axial raised area. Achnanthidium glyphos Riaux-Gobin, Compère & Witkowski (42), naviculoïd SV shape, one row of marginal oblong SV areolae (42, arrowhead).
