Nitrate 15N/14N measurements in two adjacent mesoscale eddies in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre

Two adjacent mesoscale eddies of opposite polarity were surveyed during the MESO-SCOPE (Microbial Ecology of the Surface Ocean-Simons Collaboration on Ocean Processes and Ecology) expedition in June – July of 2017. The expedition aims to understand the impact of mesoscale eddies on the ecosystem of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. Hydrographic water samples collected during the cruise were measured for nitrate 15N/14N isotope ratios using the denitrifier method. These measurements were performed by Mengyang Zhou at the University of Connecticut.

Data from: A daily global mesoscale ocean eddy dataset from satellite altimetry
Mesoscale ocean eddies are ubiquitous coherent rotating structures of water with radial scales on the order of 100 kilometers. Eddies play a key role in the transport and mixing of momentum and tracers across the World Ocean. We present a global daily mesoscale ocean eddy dataset that contains ~45 million mesoscale features and 3.3 million eddy trajectories that persist at least two days as identified in the AVISO dataset over a period of 1993–2014. This dataset, along with the open-source eddy identification software, extract eddies with any parameters (minimum size, lifetime, etc.), to study global eddy properties and dynamics, and to empirically estimate the impact eddies have on mass or heat transport. Furthermore, our open-source software may be used to identify mesoscale features in model simulations and compare them to observed features. Finally, this dataset can be used to study the interaction between mesoscale ocean eddies and other components of the Earth System.

Model files for"Impact of Horizontal Resolution (Submesoscale Permitting vs Mesoscale Resolving) on Ocean Dynamic Features in the South China Sea "

These four files are the model configurations as well as model grids for the SP and MR model mentiond in the manuscript titled with "Impact of Horizontal Resolution (Submesoscale Permitting vs Mesoscale Resolving) on Ocean Dynamic Features in the South China Sea", which would be potentially published in the Journal of Earth and Space Science. With the model grids and publicly available forcing field data introduced in the MS, it is easy to generate model input files. Finally, with the configuration files (e.g., .h, .in ), one can easily reproduce all the model results.
