The spatiotemporal evolution and influencing factors of hotel industry in the metropolitan area: an empirical study based on China
Through the online booking platform, 10,543 big data of spatial and temporal distribution of Beijing hotel industry has been obtained in this paper. Then, the methods of GIS and the geographical detector are used to study the spatiotemporal evolution process and the influencing factors of Beijing hotel industry during 2003-2018. The results are as follows: a. During the period of 2003-2018, the hotel industry in Beijing maintained a high growth rate and had three growth peaks in 2008, 2010 and 2014. Meanwhile, major historical events, such as the Olympic Games had a significant influence on the development of the hotel industry. b. Between 2003 and 2018, the hotel industry in Beijing gradually developed from the centripetal agglomeration to aggregation + diffusion, and also from the single center to the multi-center. Besides, various hotels presented two characteristics of city orientation and scenic orientation. c. The natural geographical environment had shaped the overall pattern and characteristics of the spatial distribution of the hotel industry in Beijing, and the socio-economic factors such as commercial activities, public facilities, tourism services and traffic conditions significantly influenced the location selection of the hotel industry. Therefore, the urban center is the ideal area for the spatial layout of the hotel industry. d. Geographical detector research showed that the factors, such as administrative organs, road network density, leisure and recreational facilities, and companies have strong explanatory power for hotel location selection, which is an important reference index for hotels to select the micro location. This paper is a beneficial supplement to the existing research and has certain guiding significance for the sustainable development of Beijing hotel industry.

Richness and abundance of both butterflies and floral resources in residential gardens across southwestern Melbourne, Australia's greater metropolitan area
<p><span>Wildlife gardening is a popular activity undertaken within residential areas. It is broadly promoted as a means of encouraging residents to make their gardens more 'wildlife friendly'. While theory and anecdotal evidence suggest these schemes should be effective, quantitative evaluation of wildlife gardening practices and programs is lacking across most taxa they target. </span></p> <p><span>Our overall objective in collecting this data was to determine if there was a difference in butterfly richness or abundance between gardens managed and not managed to benefit wildlife. </span>To test this, the data were collected at two spatial scales: landscape level representing our 500x500 m sampling cells and garden level representing our wildlife and traditional residential gardens. At the landscape level, butterfly and floral data were collected along a 1-km long Pollard walk through the sampling cell. At the garden level<span> we conducted point counts for butterflies in residential gardens participating in a wildlife gardening program and compared them to non-participating control gardens within the same sampling cell and from areas not targeted by the gardening program. At both levels we counted floral resources and calculated tree cover (%) within the surrounding landscape as both are important potential resources for butterflies within the landscape. The amount </span>(%) of impervious surface cover within the entire sampling cell and within the landscape surrounding each garden was also measured as it is known to have a negative effect on the butterfly community. </p>

Urban forests host rich polypore assemblages in a Nordic metropolitan area
<p>This dataset contains data for a manuscript titled 'Urban forests host rich polypore assemblages in a Nordic metropolitan area' where we have studied associations between the diversity of dead-wood inhabiting fungi and urbanization. The included spreadsheets contain data used in the analyses, i.e. polypore species occurrences, species richness and environmental data, accompanied by annotations about the characteristics of the study sites and individual dead-wood units. Data is given at two spatial scales on two separate spreadsheets: one at the level of dead-wood units and the other at the level of forest stands. Variable explanations are provided in separate text files. Data from: Role of backbone fault system on earthquake spawning and geohazards in the Seoul metropolitan area
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Major earthquakes in continental regions may cause significant damages. Preexisting fault system across megacity receives high attention for possible seismic damages. Earthquake occurrence mechanism is important to assess the geohazard potentials. Continental-scale Quaternary fault system is developed across the Seoul metropolitan area where the population is the largest in the Korean Peninsula. Historical seismic-damage records suggest potential seismic hazards in the Seoul metropolitan area. We investigate the fault motions and spatial distribution of earthquakes in the Seoul metropolitan area using a matched-filter technique that is based on stacked waveform crosscorrelation functions among densely-deployed seismic stations. The analysis detects 1,103 earthquakes that include 360 events with magnitudes (M<sub>L</sub>) of -0.6 to 2.0 around the Chugaryeong fault and 34 events with magnitudes of -0.5 to 2.7 around Wangsukcheon, Pocheon, and Yeseonggang faults. The seismicity suggests a set of near-vertical subparallel (or orthogonal) faults that develop from the major faults. The Major fault system behaves as a backbone structure that makes branch faults develop, producing seismicity including major earthquakes. The backbone structure may control the fault development that conforms to the ambient stress field. The backbone faults may play a role in increasing geohazard potentials.</span></p>
