European Multilingual News Articles Dataset with Topic Annotation

<p>The <em>European Multilingual News Articles Dataset</em> is composed of over 18 million European news articles coming from 205 media outlets belonging to 27 European countries (i.e., all EU countries belonging to the European Union) with the addition of the United Kingdom. Articles range in a time period from 2017 to 2021 and are written in their original languages, for a total of 23 different languages included.</p> <p>After selecting reliable, nationwide European media outlets, each article (i.e., title, textual content, URL, and date and time of publication) was extracted from the <a href="https://commoncrawl.org/2016/10/news-dataset-available/">Common Crawl News Corpus</a>, which contains petabytes of raw web page data collected since 2016. The dataset is released without any text pre-processing other than a cleanup of XML tags. Further, we enriched it by adding several media metadata (e.g., frequency of publication, distribution area, language, type of media).&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Moreover, we enhanced the dataset by adding - whenever possible - article-level topic annotation by using articles' URLs as a proxy of the topic discussed. In the end, we were able to assign a topic to over 4 million articles (33 unique topics, e.g., politics, sport, entertainment), thus 23.2% of the entire dataset. Further, from URLs, we also extract the types of over 4 million articles (15 unique article types, e.g., news, international, multimedia).</p>

SemEval-2024 Task 8: Multidomain, Multimodel and Multilingual Black-Box Machine-Generated Text Detection

<p>Large language models (LLMs) are becoming mainstream and easily accessible, ushering in an explosion of machine-generated content over various channels, such as news, social media, question-answering forums, educational, and even academic contexts. Recent LLMs, such as ChatGPT and GPT-4, generate remarkably fluent responses to a wide variety of user queries. The articulate nature of such generated texts makes LLMs attractive for replacing human labor in many scenarios. However, this has also resulted in concerns regarding their potential misuse, such as spreading misinformation and causing disruptions in the education system. Since humans perform only slightly better than chance when classifying machine-generated vs. human-written text, there is a need to develop automatic systems to identify machine-generated text with the goal of mitigating its potential misuse.</p> <p>We offer three subtasks over two paradigms of text generation: (1)&nbsp;<strong>full text</strong>&nbsp;when a considered text is entirely written by a human or generated by a machine; and (2)&nbsp;<strong>mixed text</strong> when a machine-generated text is refined by a human or a human-written text paraphrased by a machine.</p>

<p>Divide and Remaster v3 is a multilingual rework of the Divide and Remaster v2 dataset by P&eacute;termann et al.</p> <p>This repository contains the&nbsp;<strong>metadata,&nbsp;validation set audio, and test set audio of the</strong>&nbsp;<strong>multilingual variant </strong>of DnR v3.</p> <p>The major changes from DnR v2 are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>the dialogue stem now contains content from more than 30 languages across various language families;</li> <li>speech, vocals, and/or vocalizations have been removed from the music and effects stems;</li> <li>loudness and timing parametrization have been adjusted to approximate the distributions of real cinematic content;</li> <li>the mastering process now preserves relative loudness between stems and approximates standard industry practices.</li> </ul> <p>See the linked GitHub repository for more details.</p>
