<p>This record contains raw data related to the article "Self-Care and Quality of Life in Patients with Chronic Cardiovascular Diseases: the Role of Anxiety, Depression and Perceived Distress".</p> <p>ABSTRACT:</p> <p><strong>Aim: </strong>To explore the relationship between self-care, psychological status, and quality of life in patients with chronic cardiovascular diseases.</p> <p><strong>Background:</strong> Psychological disorders are frequent among patients with chronic cardiovascular diseases, who also need to perform self-care to manage their condition. Both psychological status and self-care seem to affect the quality of life, but the relationship between these three elements is not completely understood.</p> <p><strong>Methods: </strong>397 patients with chronic cardiovascular disease were enrolled. All participants completed a self-administered test battery comprising GAD-7 (symptoms of anxiety), PHQ-9 (symptoms of depression), PSS (perceived distress), EQ5D (quality of life), and SCCII (self-care). Paths analysis was conducted.</p> <p><strong>Results: </strong>In people with chronic cardiovascular diseases, self-care and quality of life are indirectly linked via perceived distress as the mediating factor.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>To our knowledge, this is the first study to assess the mediating role of psyhological well-being in the relationship between self-care and quality of life in patients with chronic cardiovascular diseases. Findings indicate that, in this population, self-care affects quality of life with the moderating role of perceived distress, highlighting the importance of enhancing the cooperation between nurses and psychologists in order to alleviate distress and improve quality of life in these patients.</p> <p><span><strong>THIS DATASET IS NOT PUBLIC. <p>This record contains raw data related to the article "Depression and Cardiovascular Disease: The Viewpoint of Platelets"</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>Depression is a major cause of morbidity and low quality of life among patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), and it is now considered as an independent risk factor for major adverse cardiovascular events. Increasing evidence indicates not only that depression worsens the prognosis of cardiac events, but also that a cross-vulnerability between the two conditions occurs. Among the several mechanisms proposed to explain this interplay, platelet activation is the more attractive, seeing platelets as potential mirror of the brain function. In this review, we dissected the mechanisms linking depression and CVD highlighting the critical role of platelet behavior during depression as trigger of cardiovascular complication. In particular, we will discuss the relationship between depression and molecules involved in the CVD (e.g., catecholamines, adipokines, lipids, reactive oxygen species, and chemokines), emphasizing their impact on platelet activation and related mechanisms.</p>

<p>This record contains raw data related to the article "Exosomes in Cardiovascular Diseases"</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>Exosomes are nano-sized biovesicles of endocytic origin physiologically released by nearly all cell types into surrounding body fluids. They carry cell-specific cargos of protein, lipids, and genetic materials and can be selectively taken up by neighboring or distant cells. Since the intrinsic properties of exosomes are strictly influenced by the state of the parental cell and by the cellular microenvironment, the analysis of exosome origin and content, and their cell-targeting specificity, make them attractive as possible diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. While the possible role of exosomes as messengers and a regenerative tool in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is actively investigated, the evidence about their usefulness as biomarkers is still limited and incomplete. Further complications are due to the lack of consensus regarding the most appropriate approach for exosome isolation and characterization, both important issues for their effective clinical translation. As a consequence, in this review, we will discuss the few information currently accessible about the diagnostic/prognostic potential of exosomes in CVDs and on the methodologies available for exosome isolation, analysis, and characterization.</p>

<p>This record contains raw data related to the article "Impact of Acute and Chronic Stress on Thrombosis in Healthy Individuals and Cardiovascular Disease Patients"</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>Psychological stress induces different alterations in the organism in order to maintain homeostasis, including changes in hematopoiesis and hemostasis. In particular, stress-induced hyper activation of the autonomic nervous system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis can trigger cellular and molecular alterations in platelets, coagulation factors, endothelial function, redox balance, and sterile inflammatory response. For this reason, mental stress is reported to enhance the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, contrasting results are often found in the literature considering differences in the response to acute or chronic stress and the health condition of the population analyzed. Since thrombosis is the most common underlying pathology of CVDs, the comprehension of the mechanisms at the basis of the association between stress and this pathology is highly valuable. The aim of this work is to give a comprehensive review of the studies focused on the role of acute and chronic stress in both healthy individuals and CVD patients, focusing on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the relationship between stress and thrombosis.</p>

<p>This record contains raw data related to article "Development of Personalized Thrombogenesis and Thrombin Generation Assays to Assess Endothelial Dysfunction in Cardiovascular Diseases"</p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>The study of endothelial dysfunction (ED) is crucial to identify the pathogenetic mechanism(s) and provide indications for patient management in cardiovascular diseases. It is currently hindered by the limited availability of patient-specific primary endothelial cells (ECs). Endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs) represent an optimal non-invasive tool to overcome this issue. Therefore, we investigated the use of ECFCs as a substrate in thrombogenesis and thrombin generation assay (TGA) to assess ED. Both assays were set up on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and then tested on ECFCs obtained from healthy donors. To prove the ability of the assays to detect endothelial activation, ECs stimulated with TNFα were compared with unstimulated ECs. EC activation was confirmed by the upregulation of VCAM-1 and Tissue Factor expression. Both assays discriminated between unstimulated and activated HUVECs and ECFCs, as significantly higher platelet deposition and fibrin formation in thrombogenesis assay, and thrombin generation in TGA, were observed when TNFα-activated ECs were used as a substrate. The amount of fibrin and thrombin measured in the two assays were directly correlated. Our results support the combined use of a thrombogenesis assay and TGA performed on patient-derived ECFCs to provide a personalized global assessment of ED relevant to the patient's hemostatic profile.</p>

<p>This record contains raw data related to the article "An optimized MRM-based workflow of the L-arginine/nitric oxide pathway metabolites revealed disease- and sex-related differences in the cardiovascular field"</p> <p>Clinical data indicate that low circulating L-homoarginine (HArg) concentrations are associated with cardiovascular (CV) disease, CV mortality, and all-cause mortality. A high number of LC-based analytical methods for the quantification of HArg, in combination with the L-arginine (Arg)-related pathway metabolites, have been reported. However, these methods usually consider a limited panel of analytes. Thus, in order to achieve a comprehensive picture of the Arg metabolism, we described an improved targeted metabolomic approach based on a multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mass spectrometry method for the simultaneous quantification of the Arg/nitric oxide (NO) pathway metabolites. This methodology was then employed to quantify plasma concentrations of these analytes in a cohort of individuals with different grades/types of coronary artery disease (CAD) in order to increase knowledge about the role of HArg and its associated metabolites in the CV field. Our results showed that the MRM method here implemented is suitable for the simultaneous assessment of a wide panel of amino acids involved in the Arg/NO metabolic pathway, in plasma samples from patients with CV disease. Further, the findings highlighted an impairment of the Arg/NO metabolic pathway, and suggest a sex-dependent regulation of this metabolic route.</p>

PMID: 35678980.</p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p><strong>Purpose: </strong>The visceral fat of patients affected by abdominal obesity is inflamed, and the main histopathologic feature is the high density of crown-like structures (CLS). Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is a visceral fat of paramount importance for its relationships with coronary vessels and myocardium. Its inflammation in patients with abdominal obesity could be of clinical relevance, but histopathological studies on CLS density in EAT are lacking. This study aimed to assess the histopathology of EAT biopsies obtained from patients undergoing open-heart surgery.</p> <p><strong>Methods: </strong>We collected EAT biopsies from 10 patients undergoing open-heart surgery for elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) (n = 5) or valvular replacement (VR) (n = 5). Biopsies were treated for light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. We quantify the CLS density in each EAT sample.</p> <p><strong>Results: </strong>Despite all patients having abdominal obesity, in EAT samples, no CLS were detected in the VR group; in contrast, CLS were detected in the CABG group (about 17 CLS/10<sup>4</sup> adipocytes vs. 0.0 CLS/10<sup>4</sup> adipocytes, CABG vs. VR group, respectively). An impressive density of CLS (100 times that of other patients) was found in one patient (LS) in the CABG group that had a relevant anamnestic aspect: relatively rapid increase of weight gain, especially in abdominal adipose tissue, coincident with myocardial infarction.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>CLS density could be an important predictive tool for cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, the LS case implies a role for timing in weight gain.</p> <p><strong>Level of evidence: </strong>No level of evidence; this is a basic science study.</p>
