Obtención de alcohol oleico a partir de ácido oleico y oleato de metilo

<p>El alcohol oleico (ALO) puede ser obtenido en la industria oleoqu&iacute;mica a partir de fuentes naturales. Este es un alcohol graso insaturado con m&uacute;ltiples aplicaciones en la industria de detergentes, lubricantes, cosm&eacute;ticos, pol&iacute;meros, entre otras. Debido a que es l&iacute;quido a temperatura ambiente, a la presencia del grupo funcional (OH) y la insaturaci&oacute;n en C9 (C=C), este compuesto presenta gran inter&eacute;s industrial. El ALO puede ser obtenido a partir de oleato de metilo (OM) y &aacute;cido oleico (AO), los cuales provienen de diferentes aceites vegetales, como el aceite de soya, palma, girasol, entre otros. No obstante, en los procesos industriales se utilizan elevadas presiones de H2 (250-300 atm) y altas temperaturas (250-300&deg;C). Adem&aacute;s, se emplean catalizadores de Cu-Cr, Zn-Cr, los cu&aacute;les son selectivos a ALO, pero resultan ser altamente perjudiciales para el medio ambiente por la disposici&oacute;n final del Cr. El desaf&iacute;o industrial recae sobre la b&uacute;squeda de catalizadores menos contaminantes, que conserven o incrementen el rendimiento a este alcohol insaturado y que disminuyan el coste energ&eacute;tico y de compresi&oacute;n de H2 requeridos para la reacci&oacute;n. La obtenci&oacute;n de ALO a partir de AO o de OM, presenta una competencia termodin&aacute;mica entre la reducci&oacute;n del grupo carbonilo (C=O, alcohol oleico) y el enlace olef&iacute;nico (C=C, alcohol estear&iacute;lico), los cuales tienen un &Delta;H de -15 y -30 kcal/mol, respectivamente.<br> Algunas alternativas recientes en este campo, sugieren la utilizaci&oacute;n de catalizadores de metal noble soportado y, de manera m&aacute;s novedosa, la utilizaci&oacute;n de fuentes de hidr&oacute;geno inorg&aacute;nicas, como el borohidruro de sodio, en soluci&oacute;n con los &aacute;cidos grasos o &eacute;steres met&iacute;licos de &aacute;cidos grasos, lo que implica trabajar a presi&oacute;n atmosf&eacute;rica. En algunos estudios, al emplear catalizadores bimet&aacute;licos Rh-Sn-B/Al2O3 y Rh-Sn-B/TiO2 se obtuvo un rendimiento a ALO mayor a 82% y superior a 94% a alcoholes grasos totales (FOL) con una relaci&oacute;n Sn/Rh=4. Las condiciones &oacute;ptimas fueron establecidas en 20,4 atm y 290&deg;C, lo que constituye un avance catal&iacute;tico en la obtenci&oacute;n eficiente de ALO. El buen rendimiento a este producto insaturado fue atribuido a una &oacute;ptima interacci&oacute;n superficial entre las part&iacute;culas Rh-Sn permitiendo la deslocalizaci&oacute;n del enlace C=O sobre una part&iacute;cula de Sn, que posteriormente es hidrogenado por una part&iacute;cula de Rh adyacente, a trav&eacute;s de un mecanismo de formaci&oacute;n de un intermediario acetal. La hidrogenaci&oacute;n selectiva del grupo C=O se da sobre sitios de Rh met&aacute;lico en vecindad de part&iacute;culas de &oacute;xido de esta&ntilde;o, mientras que la hidrogenaci&oacute;n del enlace C=C se da sobre sitios aislados de Rh met&aacute;lico. Por tal raz&oacute;n, la interacci&oacute;n con el soporte es fundamental ya que permite una buena dispersi&oacute;n de la fase met&aacute;lica, la conservaci&oacute;n de la carga neta de los sitios y la actividad.<br> En contraste, al utilizar hidruros met&aacute;licos en presencia de metanol a 60&deg;C y presi&oacute;n atmosf&eacute;rica empleando relaciones molares MO/NaBH4 y metanol/NaBH4 de 0,11 y 6,0, respectivamente, se obtuvo un rendimiento a ALO de 94%, con una selectividad de reducci&oacute;n del enlace C=O de 100%. En esta reacci&oacute;n, la interacci&oacute;n entre el NaBH4 y el metanol produce una serie de especies de borohidruro mono, di y tri sustituidas con grupos metoxi que favorecen la reducci&oacute;n de grupos carbonilos. El uso de NaBH4 tiene como gran ventaja la posibilidad de regenerar el s&oacute;lido resultante de la reacci&oacute;n para ser posteriormente reutilizado en la misma reacci&oacute;n o como almacenador de H2.</p>
