MITgcm Alboran Sea 2007-2008 TSUVW

<p>Raw binary files for daily potential temperature (Tave), salinity (Save), and velocity (UVW) from the MITgcm in hydrostatic mode (Marshall et al. 1997), configured similarly to Sanchez- Garrido et al. (2013) but with increased horizontal resolution in the western Alboran. This model solves the Boussinesq form of the Navier-Stokes equations for an incompressible fluid with a finite-volume spatial discretization on a curvilinear grid with typical horizontal resolution of 1- 3km. The vertical grid has 5m resolution at the surface, decreasing with depth to 403m, for a total of 46 levels. The model domain includes the Strait of Gibraltar and has open boundaries in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.</p> <p>Surface forcings are the ERA-Interim reanalysis daily heat and salt fluxes at 0.75km resolution, and the IFREMER CERSAT 6-hourly 10m Global Blended Mean Wind Fields at 1/4-degree. Open east and west ocean boundaries are forced with daily 1/12-degree velocity, salinity, and temperature from the Atlantic-Iberian Biscay Irish-Ocean Physics Reanalysis with a sponge layer of 80 km width and a 1 hour relaxation timescale.</p> <p>Initial conditions for temperature and salinity are from the September model output from Sanchez-Garrido et al. (2013), but averaged over the full month and the latitudinal extent of the basin, leaving only east-west and vertical gradients; this smoothing allowed a more stable circulation to develop. The model was spun up for 55 simulated days without atmospheric forcing and with constant fall 2007 average ocean boundary conditions. Over 75 further simulated days, mean fall 2007 atmospheric forcing was added, followed by a transition to mean October and then November forcing for both the atmosphere and ocean boundaries. After this total of 130 days spinup, the fully-forced simulation began running from November 1, 2007. The model run ends December 31 2008.</p>

2007-2016 Surface Circulation over the Mid Atlantic Bight Continental Shelf derived from a Decade of High Frequency Radar Observations

<p>A decade (2007-2016) of hourly 6 km resolution maps of the surface currents across the Mid Atlantic Bight (MAB) generated by a regional-scale High Frequency Radar network are used to reveal new insights into the spatial patterns of the long term annual and seasonal mean surface flows.&nbsp;&nbsp;Across the 10 year time series, temporal means, inter- and intra-annual variability are used to quantify the variability of spatial surface current patterns from season to season and year to year.&nbsp;&nbsp;The 10-year annual mean surface flows are weaker and mostly cross shelf near the coast, increasing in speed and rotating to more alongshore directions near the shelf break, and increasing in speed and rotating to flow off-shelf in the southern MAB. The annual mean surface current pattern is relatively stable year to year compared to the hourly variations within a year.&nbsp;&nbsp;The ten-year seasonal means exhibit similar current patterns, with winter and summer more cross-shore while spring and fall transitions are more alongshore. Fall and winter mean current speeds are larger and correspond to a time when the mean winds are stronger and cross-shore. Summer mean currents are weakest and correspond to a time when the mean wind opposes the alongshore flow.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Again, intra-annual variability is much greater than interannual, with the fall season exhibiting the most interannual variability in the surface current patterns.&nbsp;&nbsp;The extreme fall seasons of 2009 and 2011 are related to extremes in the wind and river discharge events caused by different persistent synoptic meteorological conditions, resulting in more or less rapid fall transitions from stratified summer to well-mixed winter conditions.</p>

Col d'Olen, soil temperature 2007-2019

<p>Dataset provides information about soil temperature, soil C and N dynamics at different sites in the alpine tundra, along an elevational gradient from 2500 to 2900 m asl during the period 2005-2018. The soil temperature is measured continuously from 2007 to 2019 while the soil and the water samples are collected during the snow free season. The ongoing studies aimed at investigating how the meteorological variables affect the biogeochemistry of seasonally snow covered areas, with a special focus on the effect of the snow cover duration on soil and water C and N dynamics during the growing season.</p>
