Processed extreme composite cyclone datasets from X-SHiELD simulations.
<p>Processed extreme cyclones composites datasets during 2020-2022 from X-SHiELD simulations (see Cheng et al. (2022) and Harris et al. (2023) for details on the X-SHiELD model and experiment setups), including total column water vapour (TCWV in the paper, but here shortened as iwp), total precipitation (pr), and 10-m wind speeds for both the current climate and a warming scenario with a uniform 4-K increase in sea surface temperature.</p>

Composite tracks of Mediterranean cyclones (1979-2020)
<p>The composite tracks of Mediterranean cyclones have been produced by combining an ensembles of 10 independent track datasets, applied to ERA5 reanalysis for the period 1979-2020. Composite tracks describe more intense and longer-lasting cyclones with more distinguished early, mature and decay stages than cyclones coming from individual tracking methods.</p> <p>Composite tracks are ranked according to their confidence level, i.e. the number of individual cyclone tracking methods that tracked the same cyclone. For each confidence level, we provide a separate file that includes a matrix of eight columns and a number of rows that varies among the datasets. Each row corresponds to a single track point, while the eight columns provide the following information:</p> <p>- Column 1: A cumulatively increasing index that functions as an identifier of unique cyclone tracks. For instance, all information about the track of cyclone #456 are found in all rows starting with the number 456.</p> <p>- Column 2: Longitude of track points</p> <p>- Column 3: Latitude of track points. It is important to note that geographical coordinates are</p> <p>produced using Step 2 of our method and thus may not match the exact location of grid points of ERA5.</p> <p>- Column 4: Year of occurrence</p> <p>- Column 5: Month of occurrence</p> <p>- Column 6: Day of occurrence</p> <p>- Column 7: Hour of occurrence</p> <p>- Column 8: Lowest MSLP value (in hPa) within a 2.5 degrees radius from the geographical coordinates in columns 2 and 3. These values are only meant to function as an approximate reference of intensity.</p>

<p>There are three files: control, EP and noEP. Each file contains dimensions latitude, longitude and year. Each file contains variables absolute vorticity (avor), genesis potential index (gpi), relative humidity (rh), vertical stratification (tz), potential intensity (vpot), and vertical wind shear (vws). Data from: The effect of initial vortex asymmetric structure on tropical cyclone intensity change in response to an imposed environmental vertical wind shear
<p>Previous studies have investigated how the environmental vertical wind shear (VWS) may trigger the asymmetric structure in an initially axisymmetric tropical cyclone (TC) vortex and how TC intensity changes in response. In this study, the possible effect of the initial vortex asymmetric structure on the TC intensity change in response to an imposed environmental VWS is investigated based on idealized full-physics model simulations. Results show that the effect of the asymmetric structure in the initial TC vortex can either enhance or suppress the initial weakening of the TC in response to the imposed environmental VWS. When the initial asymmetric structure is in phase of the VWS-induced asymmetric structure, the TC weakening will be enhanced and vice versa. Our finding calls for realistic representation of initial TC asymmetric structure in numerical weather prediction models and observations to better resolve the asymmetric structure in TCs.</p>

A global hybrid tropical cyclone risk model based upon statistical and coupled climate models - Supporting figures and data
<p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>This contribution consists of 1) supporting figures and 2) supporting data for the submitted manuscript "A Global Hybrid Tropical Cyclone Risk Model based upon Statistical and Coupled Climate Models." Supporting figures are presented in two interactive HTML documents. The supporting datasets contain tropical cyclone event sets, catalogs, and an example analysis that plots summaries of the simulated catalogs and compares them to historical observations. All files are provided for the 400 ensemble members (event sets) that represent climate model years 1981-2020 (40 years) from the first 10 CESM-LE members.</p><p><strong>Contents</strong></p><p>./Catalog/sim_650</p><p>Tropical cyclone annual catalog for each basin based on the CESM-LE distribution of ENSO phases. 650 simulations are provided for each of 400 event sets.
