Survey and Analysis of Whistler- and Z-mode Emission in the Juno Extended Mission

<p>This is the supporting data set for the paper by the same title published in AGU JGR Space Physics.</p> <p><strong>Key Points:</strong></p> <ul> <li> <p>Whistler mode lower and upper band chorus intensities are surveyed in the extended Juno mission, increasing orbital coverage.</p> </li> <li> <p>Z-mode intensity distributions are re-analyzed with improved plasma density evaluations.</p> </li> <li> <p>Mixed Z-mode, O-mode, and W-mode emission challenges discrete mode identification.</p> </li> </ul> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>Whistler mode and Z-mode waves may have significant impact on electron scattering and acceleration at Jupiter as recent stochastic models indicate. New observations of these waves in the Juno extended mission expand the orbital coverage from previous surveys, extending especially to smaller radial distances near the magnetic equator, and to extended ranges of dusk-side magnetic local time. M-shells transiting the Io torus and the orbit of Europa are recognized as a significant source region for whistler mode lower and upper band chorus emission with intensity peaks near 9 R<sub>j</sub>. Ganymede is a significant source of intense whistler mode chorus confined to the local moon environment. New Z-mode observations now extend from a few kHz to over 80 kHz. Inferred source regions for Z-mode are consistent with the outer edge of the Io torus and with auroral field lines that may also support broadband kilometric or decametric emission.</p> <ul> </ul>

The EcoTrends project was established in 2004 by Dr. Debra Peters (Jornada Basin LTER, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range) and Dr. Ariel Lugo (Luquillo LTER, USDA-FS Luquillo Experimental Forest) to support the collection and analysis of long-term ecological datasets. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA). FK180310 SCOPE-Falkor cruise, Seaglider 148, Mission 15

<p>The SCOPE-Falkor cruise was a month long expedition, primarily to conduct mapping of the deep chlorophyll maximum (DCM) within a mesoscale cyclonic eddy. The procedure was to utilize two Long Range Autonomous Vehicles (AUVs) near the center of the eddy and&nbsp; to capture the microbial ecology within the DCM over several diel cycles. Two autonomous Seagliders, sg148 (mission 15) and sg626 (mission 2) were deployed along the exterior boundary of the cyclonic eddy to conduct spatial surveys&nbsp; of salinity, chlorophyll,&nbsp; optics, and oxygen, diving&nbsp; generally from 200 to&nbsp; 600 meters depth.&nbsp; Since the R/V Falkor and the LRAUVs would be drifting near each other and sampling close to the center of the cyclonic eddy, both Seagliders were to give the regional context by simultaneously&nbsp; traversing the margin of the eastern edge of the&nbsp; cyclonic eddy and western edge of the anti-cyclonic eddy.</p>

KOK1806 HOT-LAVA cruise, Seaglider 512, Mission 9

<p>The HOT-LAVA mission was a rare opportunity to quickly survey and sample&nbsp; the biogeochemical changes and ecological variability of the ocean off the south east coast of Hawaii when it was perturbed by lava pouring into the sea. Seaglider sg512&nbsp; (mission 9), was deployed the first day to conduct transects to the south ahead of the R/V KOK and along the axis of the satellite imagery showing a chlorophyll bloom.&nbsp;&nbsp; Its goal was to survey and provide reconnaissance for the ship&#39;s science personnel to ground truth the satellite&#39;s higher surface expression of chlorophyll and hopefully provide better station locations for sampling. &nbsp; Subsequent to the cruise, it was to continue collecting data corresponding to the satellite imagery and monitor the longer regional changes due to the outflow of the lava into the ocean.&nbsp;&nbsp; This<br> mission was prematurely&nbsp; shortened due to a malfunctioning depth pressure sensor, necessitating an early recovery.</p>

<p>In the process of visually inspecting&nbsp;a random selection of targets with Kepler magnitude Kp&lt;12 from K2 campaign 6, we identified&nbsp;EPIC 212521166 as a transiting planet candidate.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>The figure shows the K2 light curve of this object. The top and bottom panels show the SAP and PDC versions of the light curve, respectively. Both have been normalised by dividing them by their median, and only observations with null quality flag are shown.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
