The Nunavut Arctic College and the mobilization of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit in Nunavut research: A systematic review of research literature (Dataset)

This dataset is part of a systemic literature review that supports a North by North research project led by NAC with assistance from NRI and supported through Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. It provides a review of existing research in Nunavut, documenting types of support NAC and NRI and how IQ is used in literature. Its findings show how NAC and NRI are involved in research, and how Inuit Qaujimanituqangit and Western Sciences are brought together in research. A main focus of this work prioritizes northern and Inuit participation and ways of knowing in research processes.

Silalirijiit Project: Kangiqtugaapik (Clyde River), Nunavut, Canada, Weather Station Network, Version 1
The Kangiqtugaapik (Clyde River), Nunavut, Canada, Weather Station Network is a collection of weather station data from the locations of Akuliaqattak, Silasiutitalik, and Ailaktalik in the Clyde River area. Data collection for the Silalirijiit project began in June 2010 and is ongoing. An online interface shows the current conditions at these locations. Weather data from the Kangiqtugaapik Airport Station, collected by Environment Canada, are also provided. The data will be archived at NSIDC in the future; at this time, the site displays current conditions. This data set is part of the Silalirijiit Project and is funded by a National Science Foundation grant (ARC-0753854) entitled IPY: Collaborative Research: Linking Inuit Knowledge and Local-Scale Environmental Modeling to Evaluate the Impacts of Changing Weather on Human Activities at Clyde River, Nunavut.
Sea Ice in the Belcher Islands, Nunavut, Canada, Version 1
This data set contains interviews of three hunters from Sanikiliaq, Belcher Islands, in the territory of Nunavut, Canada. The hunters describe their observations of sea ice conditions around the Belcher Islands gathered from their many hunting expeditions. The local and traditional knowledge (LTK) gathered from these interviews reveals that the ice is changing and becoming more dangerous and less predictable than it once was.In addition to the three video interviews, the hunters drew important ice features and changes on maps which are included as part of the data set. Photographs of ice conditions at specific places on the maps are available. Two of the three interviews are in English; the third is in Inuktitut and English.Data are available via the Product Web Site as edited video files, maps, and photographs. Full video interviews, maps, and photographs are on ftp as a compressed file via the Access Data link.
