Metabarcoding dataset of surface microbial eukaryotes in the Western Arctic Ocean (Canada Basin/Beaufort Sea)

<p>Fasta file of amplicon sequence variant (ASV)&nbsp;sequences, ASV phylogeny in Newick format, ASV table of relative abundance in samples and table of taxonomic information associated with each ASV. Raw sequence data were processed using DADA2 v1.14 and taxonomic assignment of ASV sequences was done using the PR2 database v4.12.0. The table of standardised environmental metadata (z-scores) is also provided.</p><p>Additionally, the OTU (98%) table of relative abundances in samples and phylogeny in Newick format is available.</p>

Authigenic carbonate burial within the Late Devonian Western Canada Sedimentary Basin and its impact on the global carbon cycle

<p>The complete dataset for the research project entitled <i>Authigenic carbonate burial within the Late Devonian Western Canada Sedimentary Basin and its impact on the global carbon cycle</i>. Within this zip file includes an excel file compiling a list of rock samples and their corresponding stable carbon and oxygen isotope compositions as well as their inorganic carbon content. Rock samples are grouped according to formation name, depositional environment and stratigraphic height. Along with the excel data compilation are two supplementary figures meant to accompany the publication of this research. &nbsp;Figure S1 illustrates coulometry-measured inorganic carbon content of shale samples plotted with respect to their respective IRMS beam area. Figure S2 illustrates a rolling window analysis of the covariability between the d13C and d18O composition of each sample grouped according to their respective core and field sections. A window size of 20 samples was used.</p>

Western Canada Crustal Model 2022

<p>We present a new model of Moho depth and Vp/Vs in western Canada (i.e., <em>WCANM22</em>) by integrating existing seismic constraints from active source experiments (e.g., Lithoprobe) and new measurements from passive teleseismic data (i.e., receiver functions). Crustal properties determined from various data types are reconciled by considering the spatial coherence between sampling points using the kriging interpolation. All the receiver functions we calculated are also included in this repository.</p>

Middle Ordovician (middle Darriwilian) Archaeospicularia and Entactinaria (radiolarians) from the Table Cove Formation, Piccadilly Quarry, western Newfoundland, Canada

<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>New, distinctive, well preserved and previously undescribed constituents of a Middle Ordovician (middle Darriwilian, Dw2) radiolarian assemblage from the Table Cove Formation in Newfoundland are described. Sedimentary DNA of a human‐impacted lake in Western Canada (Cultus Lake) reveals changes in micro‐eukaryotic diversity over the past ~200 years

<p>Although the use of genetic analyses of sedimentary DNA to track changes in biodiversity has increased over the last decade, questions remain as to how well DNA captures past ecological conditions. Even less is known about how extracellular and intracellular DNA are archived in lake sediments and whether the two fractions yield similar information. Here we characterized the changes of micro‐eukaryotic communities over the past ~200 years in Cultus Lake (British Columbia, Canada), for which a rich body of limnological data and a pre‐existing multi‐proxy paleolimnological study exist. We generated and analyzed 18S rRNA gene amplicons and found that extracellular and intracellular DNA provided different insights, with the preservation of extracellular DNA compromised in sediments older than ~30 years. Principal Coordinates and indicator species analyses based on intracellular DNA showed that changes in micro‐eukaryotic diversity occurred at similar time periods as those identified with the classical paleolimnological study. For instance, decreases of Opisthokonta amplicons occurred during years with elevated numbers of sockeye salmon spawners, which might be associated with an increase of herbivory by juvenile sockeye salmon. Furthermore, two diatom species identified morphologically exhibited similar temporal dynamics to two diatom taxa identified genetically, suggesting that sedimentary DNA can track past diatom species changes as well as micro‐eukaryotic community changes. Overall, our study provides insights into the use of extracellular and intracellular DNA in sedimentary records and showed that sedimentary DNA enriches our understanding of micro‐eukaryotic community changes over centennial time scales.</p>
