Earthquake catalogue for the Taupō Volcanic Zone, New Zealand, 2007–2024
<p>These files contain information on the earthquake catalogue presented in Illsley-Kemp & Mestel (2024). This contains earthquakes which occurred in the Taupō Volcanic Zone, New Zealand, between 2007–2024. For detail on methodology please refer to the original publication. There are two types of file; an xml file for each year which is in QuakeML format, this can be read with ObsPy, there is also two csv files, one for the absolute location catalogue, and one for the relocated catalogue.</p> <p>All methodological details can be found in the associate paper, which can be found here: https://seismica.library.mcgill.ca/article/view/1490</p> <p>If using this dataset please cite the orginal paper:</p> <p>Illsley-Kemp, F. and Mestel, E., 2025. Two global ensemble M5.95+ seismicity models obtained from the combination of interseismic strain rates and earthquake-catalogue data
<p>Contains two global earthquake-rate forecasts developed by Bayona et al. (2021) to be prospectively evaluated by the Collaboratory for the Study of Earthquake Predictability (CSEP). The Tectonic Earthquake Activity Model (TEAM) is a geodetic-based model using Version 2.1 of the Global Strain Rate Map (GSRM2.1; Kreemer et al., 2014), while the World Hybrid Earthquake Estimates based on Likelihood scores (WHEEL) is a model obtained from a multiplicative log-linear combination of TEAM with the Smoothed Seismicity (KJSS) model of Kagan and Jackson (2011).</p> <p>Earthquake densities are expressed as number of M5.95+ events per unit 0.1<sup>o</sup> cell per year. <p>The project '<a href="https://cataloguelegacies.github.io/">Legacies of Catalogue Descriptions and Curatorial Voice: Opportunities for Digital Scholarship</a>' (2020-22, AHRC, Project Reference AH/T013036/1) sought to develop a platform for a transformational impact in digital scholarship within cultural institutions by opening up new and important directions for computational, critical, and curatorial analysis of collection catalogues. Our pilot research investigated the temporal and spatial legacy of a landmark catalogue: the ‘Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires Preserved in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum’, entries in which form the basis of related catalogue data at institutions including the Lewis Walpole Library and the British Library.</p> <p>Towards the end of the project we invited together members of our community to discuss shared agendas and actions: where we should focus our collective resources, what things we need to work differently, and the role of computational technologies in both shaping and constraining change.</p> <p>These infographics respond to those conversations. 'Legacy catalogue entries: actions and agendas' presents priorities that emerged from a longlist of project findings. And 'Tracing the transmission of legacy catalogue entries' visualises the journey of legacy catalogue data in our case study from conception, through cataloging infrastructures, and into the future.</p> <p>Both graphics were designed by Lucy Havens, with editorial support from James Baker and Rossitza Atanassova.
