Supplementary data for "Effect of Human Disturbance on Bird Telomere Length: An Experimental Approach"
<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>Human recreational activities increase worldwide in space and frequency leading to higher rates of encounter between humans and wild animals. Because wildlife often perceive humans as predators, this increase in human disturbance may have negative consequences for the individuals and also for the viability of populations. Up to now, experiments on the effects of human disturbance on wildlife have mainly focused on individual behavioral and stress-physiological reactions, on breeding success, and on survival. However, the effects on other physiological parameters and trans-generational effects remain poorly understood. We used a low-intensity experimental disturbance in the field to explore the impacts of human disturbance on telomere length in great tit (<em>Parus major</em>) populations and found a clear effect of disturbance on telomere length. Adult males, but not females, in disturbed plots showed shorter telomere lengths when compared to control plot. Moreover, variation in telomere length of adult great tits was reflected in the next generation, as we found a positive correlation between telomere length of the chicks and of their fathers. Given that telomere length has been linked to animal lifespan, our study highlights that activities considered to be of little concern (i.e., low levels of disturbance) can have a long-lasting impact on the physiology and survival of wild animals and their next generation.</p>
A compilation of experimental data on the mechanical properties and microstructural features of Ti-alloys
<p>A compilation of mechanical properties of 282 distinct multicomponent Ti-based alloys. The majority of the data was published in high-quality journals after 2010 (≈84%) and concerns alloys produced via an ingot metallurgy route, followed by solubilization and water quench (≈58%), considered a standard condition for β-Ti alloys. The dataset includes the chemical composition (in at.%), phase constituents, Young modulus, hardness, yield strength, ultimate strength, and elongation, among other relevant features. Rosalia: An experimental research site to study hydrological processes in a forest catchment - data repository
<p>This repository is a supplement to the paper <strong>Fürst, J., et al. (2021). “Rosalia: an experimental research site to study hydrological processes in a forest catchment.” Earth Syst. Sci. Data 13(8): 4019-4034.</strong></p> <p>Experimental watersheds have a long tradition as research sites in hydrology and have been used as far back as the late 19<sup>th</sup> and early 20<sup>th</sup> century. The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) has been operating the experimental research forest site called “Rosalia” with an area of 950 ha since 1875 to support and facilitate research and education. Recently, BOKU researchers from various disciplines extended the “Rosalia” instrumentation towards a full ecological-hydrological experimental watershed. The overall objective is to implement a multi-scale, multi-disciplinary observation system that facilitates the study of water, energy and solute transport processes in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.</p> <p>This repository contains the datasets collected by a monitoring network of 4 discharge gauging stations, 7 rain-gauges, together with observations of air and water temperature, relative humidity and conductivity. In four profiles, soil water content and temperature are recorded in different depths. In 2019, additionally a program to collect isotopic data in precipitation and discharge was started. On one site, also Nitrate, TOC and turbidity are monitored. All data collected since 2015, including in total 56 high resolution time series data (10 min sampling interval), are provided to the scientific community.</p>

<p>This folder contains the raw data and analysis coded need to reproduce all of the major results in the manuscript "Experimental Higher-Order Interference in a Nonlinear Triple Slit". </p> <p>The folder "matlab" contains the data and code used to produce all of the main data figures in the paper. The various script load the data, and plots the final results used in the paper. </p> <p>The folder "mathematica" contains the scripts to implement our 4-th order perturbative quantum solution. There is one script to fit to experimental data to find the effective nonlinearity, and another to generate the dependence of the different terms if kappa as a function of Z. The result is plotted in the matlab script found in the directory "matlab\quantum"</p>
Testing a biological mechanism of the insurancehypothesis in experimental aquatic communities - Data Deposit
<p>1.The insurance hypothesis predicts a stabilizing effect of increasing species richness on commu-nity and ecosystem properties. Difference among species’ responses to environmental fluctuationsprovides a general mechanism for the hypothesis. Previous experimental investigations of theinsurance hypothesis have not examined this mechanism directly.</p> <p>2.First, responses to temperature of four protist species were measured in laboratory microcosms.For each species, we measured the response of intrinsic rate of increase (r) and carrying capacity(K) to temperature.</p> <p>3.Next, communities containing pairs of species were exposed to temperature fluctuations. Com-munity biomass varied less when correlation inKbetween species (but notr) was more negative,and this resulted from more negative covariances in population sizes, as predicted. Results werecontingent on species identity, with findings differing between analyses including or not includingcommunities containing one particular species.</p> <p>4.These findings provide the clearest support to date for this mechanism of the insurance hypo-thesis. Biodiversity, in terms of differences in species’ responses to environmental fluctuations (i.e.functional response diversity) stabilizes community dynamics.</p>

<p>This dataset presents the experimental data, the analysis scripts and the accompanying simulations for the article <em>"Emittance preservation in a plasma-wakefield accelerator"</em> by C. A. Lindstrøm <em>et al</em>. [<a href="https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-024-50320-1">Nat. Commun. 15, 6097 (2024)</a>].</p> <p>The data was collected at the FLASHForward facility at DESY (Hamburg, Germany). <p>These data sets correspond to the evolution of the number of patches colonized in the experimental landscapes of <em>Trichogramma chilonis</em>. <strong>Data_xp</strong> contains the data set used in the article When higher carrying capacities lead to faster propagation, and <strong>Data_sup_xp</strong> is an additional data set whose results are visible in the supplementary material of the article.</p> <p><strong>Data_main_xp</strong>:<br> We tested 2 carrying capacity modalities ("Modalite"), one of about 200 individuals, Small K, noted "4" in the file, and one of about 500 individuals, Large K, noted "10" in the file.<br> The "Bloc" column corresponds to the experimental block that the landscape belongs to (from 1 to 4).<br> "Replicat" is the replicates identifier of the landscape for one modality (from 1 to 40).</p> <p>For each landscape, we introduced the individuals in the middle of the patches, so the expansion occurred on both sides of the patch of introduction. Each side of the expansion is called a front, "Front" in the file, (from 1 to 80). "Front" summarizes the affiliation to a replicate and the considered side of the expansion. Thus, each landscape has a replicate identifier and two front identifiers. <br> "Generation" is the generation time at which the data was collected (from 0 to 10).<br> "Npatch" is the number of patches colonized on a front from the patch of introduction.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Data_sup_xp:</strong></p> <p>"Modality" is equivalent to "Modality" in the Data_main_xp file, here it is "2" which is equivalent to a carrying capacity of nearly 90 individuals.<br> "Bloc" (from 1 to 4), "Replicat" (from 1 to 16), "Generation" (from 0 to 9) and "Npatch" are identical to those described in Data_main_xp .</p> <p>Here we do not find a "Front" column because this experiment was conducted with only one side of expansion .</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
Experimental data for nonlinear dynamics and energy harvesting of bistable cantilever shells (grant 2021/41/B/ST8/03190 from the National Science Centre, Poland)
<p>An experimental tests on a cantilever composite bistable shell with a piezoelectric patch is reported. The shell is characterized by two stable configurations. Periodic force is applied at the shell’s clamped side through an electrodynamic shaker and the dynamic response is measured through an embedded strain gauge. Selected dynamic regimes are recorded by performing excitation frequency and amplitude sweeps. The resonance scenarios around the two natural frequencies corresponding to the stable configurations show different softening behavior. The excitation amplitude threshold level for snap-through motion is identified. The thested thin-walled pseudo-conical shell has been made of carbon-epoxy composite prepreg tape (AS4-GP-12K_40gsm-<br>300mm-ThinPreg135EP). The composite single layer is characterized by unidirectional reinforcement, thickness 0.04 mm. The manufacturing standard samples for strength tests in the autoclave process reduces to about 0.038 mm. </p>

<p>The area was surveyed using terrestrial laser scanning, and the subsequent derivation of individual tree yield data (BHD, tree height, volume, etc.) was carried out as part of a study to assess the ecosystem services of different forest stands (recorded in March 2023). In this version of the data, transmission errors and unit errors were corrected.</p>

Experimental data for fracture toughness analysis of sandstone and granite samples under fluid saturation conditions
<p>This database includes experimental results from mode I fracture toughness (KIC) tests conducted on saturated rock specimens. Three lithologies were studied: a porous siliceous sandstone (Corvio, C) and two high-strength, low-porosity granites (Blanco Mera, BM and Blanco Alba, BA). Tests were conducted at room pressure and temperature using the pseudo-compact tension (pCT) methodology. Seven different fluids were used: deionized water, methanol, NaCl-saturated water, mineral oil, diesel fuel, an acidic HCl solution, and a caustic NaOH solution.</p>
