Data for 'Formalizing Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining: a Grand Challenge of the Minamata Convention'

Signatories to the Minamata Convention on Mercury with ‘more than insignificant’ artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sectors are required to develop and implement National Action Plans (NAPs) to reform their ASGM sectors in line with Annexe C of the Convention. We compiled the budgets of available NAPs for reducing mercury emissions from ASGM sectors. As of 2021-12-31, these were available for 16 countries from: www.mercuryconvention.org/en/parties/national-action-plans. We used these data to estimate the approximate costs of expanding such approaches globally.

Mining Fork-Including Software Development Traces

This dataset relates to the paper: Mining Fork-Including Development Traces (abstract below)
Authors: Iris Reinhartz-Berger and Amir Tomer
Starting point: readme.txt

Open-source software development is a common practice that encourages collaborative development and reuse across projects. Forking is a way to make a copy of an existing project and explore it for different purposes. Two types of forks are commonly mentioned in the literature: contributing forks which continue the development lines of the forked projects and aim at merging the contribution back to the forked projects; and independently developed forks which open new lines of development deviating from the forked projects. In this study, we aim to explore characteristics of fork-involving software development traces. Analyzing 880 Java projects and their related action and observation events, with process mining and statistical techniques, we found that the occurrence of certain event types may predict the fork type, while the creation of certain fork types increase the involvement of users in the forked projects.

Knowledge Graph: tyrolean mining documents 15th and 16th century

The dataset contains a Knowledge Graph (.nq file) of two historical mining documents: “Verleihbuch der Rattenberger Bergrichter” ( Hs. 37, 1460-1463) and “Schwazer Berglehenbuch” (Hs. 1587, approx. 1515) stored by the Tyrolean Regional Archive, Innsbruck (Austria). The user of the KG may explore the montanistic network and relations between people, claims and mines in the late medieval Tyrol. The core regions concern the districts Schwaz and Kufstein (Tyrol, Austria).

The ontology used to represent the claims is CIDOC CRM, an ISO certified ontology for Cultural Heritage documentation. Supported by the Karma tool the KG is generated as RDF (Resource Description Framework). The generated RDF data is imported into a Triplestore, in this case GraphDB, and then displayed visually. This puts the data from the early mining texts into a semantically structured context and makes the mutual relationships between people, places and mines visible.

Both documents and the Knowledge Graph were processed and generated by the research team of the project “Text Mining Medieval Mining Texts”. The research project (2019-2022) was carried out at the university of Innsbruck and funded by go!digital next generation programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Citeable Transcripts of the historical documents are online available:
Hs. 37 DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.6274562
Hs. 1587 DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.6274928
