Data from: Direct generation of spatially entangled qudits using quantum nonlinear holography - variances
<p>Nonlinear holography shapes the amplitude and phase of generated new harmonics using nonlinear processes. Classical nonlinear holography influenced many fields in optics, from information storage, de-multiplexing of spatial information and all-optical control of accelerating beams. Here, we extend the concept of nonlinear holography to the quantum regime. We directly shape the spatial quantum correlations of entangled photon pairs in two-dimensional patterned nonlinear photonic crystals using spontaneous parametric down conversion, without any pump shaping. The generated signal-idler pair obeys a parity conservation law that is governed by the nonlinear crystal. Furthermore, the quantum states exhibit quantum correlations and violate the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality, thus enabling entanglement-based quantum key distribution. Our demonstration paves the way for controllable on-chip quantum optics schemes utilizing the high-dimensional spatial degree of freedom.</p>

Nonlinear response of productivity to precipitation extremes in the Inner Mongolia grassland
<p>As precipitation (PPT) regimes are becoming more extreme worldwide, our understanding of how terrestrial ecosystems will respond to this aspect of climate change remains unclear. We addressed this research gap by a PPT gradient experiment that included PPT amounts simulating extremely dry and wet years in combination with a long-term (40 years) observational study in a grassland ecosystem. This study illustrates how a grassland responded to greater PPT variability and highlights the role of limiting resource shift in ecosystem responses to climate extremes. Thus, to accurately forecast future ecosystem feedbacks to climate change, we should take into account the negative asymmetric feature of ecosystem response to stronger climate variability.</p>

Data from: Nonlinear decoding models enable music reconstruction from human auditory cortex activity
<p>This dataset is associated with the manuscript "Nonlinear decoding models enable music reconstruction from human auditory cortex activity", and provides all preprocessed files necessary to replicate the results.</p> <p>In this study, we recorded intracranial EEG data (specifically, ECoG) in 29 patients with pharmacoresistant epilepsy while they were passively listening to a Pink Floyd song.</p> <p>The present dataset consists of preprocessed neural activity (High-Frequency Activity, 70-150 Hz), electrode coordinates (in MNI template space) and auditory stimulus (raw wave file, and 32- and 128-frequency-bin auditory spectrogram). HFA and both auditory spectrograms have a sampling rate of 100 Hz, and are temporally aligned (duration of 190.72 s).</p> <p>The code we used to preprocess and analyze the data is hosted on GitHub, <a href="https://github.com/ludovicbellier/PF_HFAdecoding">here</a> for the manuscript and <a href="https://github.com/ludovicbellier/PF_HFAdecoding">there</a> for the predictive modeling functions.</p>

Noncentrosymmetric Lanthanide-Based MOF Materials Exhibiting Strong SHG Activity and NIR Luminescence of Er3+: Application in Nonlinear Optical Thermometry
<p>Optically active luminescent materials based on lanthanide ions attract significant attention due to their unique spectroscopic properties, nonlinear optical activity, and the possibility of application as contactless sensors. Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) that exhibit strong second-harmonic generation (SHG) and are optically active in the NIR region are unexpectedly underrepresented. Moreover, such Ln-MOFs require ligands that are chiral and/or need multistep synthetic procedures. Here, we show that the NIR pulsed laser irradiation of the noncentrosymmetric, isostructural Ln-MOF materials (MOF-Er<sup>3+</sup> (1) and codoped MOF-Yb<sup>3+</sup>/Er<sup>3+</sup> (2)) that are constructed from simple, achiral organic substrates in a one-step procedure results in strong and tunable SHG activity. The SHG signals could be easily collected, exciting the materials in a broad NIR spectral range, from ≈800 to 1500 nm, resulting in the intense color of emission, observed in the entire visible spectral region. Moreover, upon excitation in the range of ≈900 to 1025 nm, the materials also exhibit the NIR luminescence of Er<sup>3+</sup> ions, centered at ≈1550 nm. The use of a 975 nm pulse excitation allows simultaneous observations of the conventional NIR emission of Er<sup>3+</sup> and the SHG signal, altogether tuned by the composition of the Ln-MOF materials. Taking the benefits of different thermal responses of the mentioned effects, we have developed a nonlinear optical thermometer based on lanthanide-MOF materials. In this system, the SHG signal decreases with temperature, whereas the NIR emission band of Er<sup>3+</sup> slightly broadens, allowing ratiometric (Er<sup>3+</sup> NIR 1550 nm/SHG 488 nm) temperature monitoring. Our study provides a groundwork for the rational design of readily available and self-monitoring NLO-active Ln-MOFs with the desired optical and electronic properties.</p>
Harnessing genotype-phenotype nonlinearity to accelerate biological prediction
