High water temperature significantly influences swimming performance of New Zealand migratory species
<p>Our study examined how temperature variations affect critical swimming speeds of four migratory species. Higher temperatures (26°C) significantly reduced swimming speeds for three species, emphasising the need for fish passage solutions that consider temperature fluctuations. This is crucial for habitat restoration and freshwater fish preservation, especially in a changing climate. </p>

A FIELD STUDY ON THERMAL INSULATION PERFORMANCE OF GREEN ROOF FOR BUILDINGS IN HOT DRY CLIMATE OF ZARIA, NIGERIA
<p>Although the practice of employing the use of green roof for thermal insulation is gaining a wideranging acceptance across the globe, its use in Nigeria and the sub Saharan Africa has remained unpopular. Study has shown that, although a vast literature on different approaches in the application of green roof system exists, there is substantial misrepresentation of inferences regarding its applications in Nigeria. The purpose of the study therefore, is to assess the thermal performance of green roof in facilitating thermal insulation for building interiors of hot dry climate in Nigeria. The study is carried out through an empirical field observation in the premises of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria. Two miniature live models were built and covered with galvanised iron roofing sheets on timber trusses; one of which was covered with green roof, while the other was left bare. This is with the view to determine the rate of thermal insulation a green roof system can offer over the bare roof in the building interiors of the study area. Using the experimental approach in green roof investigation, a data logging system was installed in the two thermal zones and readings of the temperature profile was taken. The results showed that; a reduction of 2.08°C in indoor air temperature was obtained on the diurnal ranges, while 19.78% of temperature fluctuation was achieved. Generally, the result showed that higher temperature ranges were recorded in the bare roofed case than the green roof. The maximum, mean and minimum record for the bare roof was 45.20°C, 32.03°C and 21.10°C respectively; while the recorded values for the green roof were 41.90°C, 29.95°C, and 21.00°C respectively. This implies that, the presence of vegetation on the green roofed case has offered a degree of thermal insulation required to achieve better passive cooling in order to attain thermal comfort in the interiors of the study area.</p>

Evaluation of Materials for Asphalt Mixture Performance, Semi-Circular Bend Laboratory Tests
<p>A study was conducted to evaluate the repeatability of the Flexibility Index of asphalt mixtures obtained according to AASHTO TP-124-16. Three asphalt concrete samples were mixed and compacted using the Superpave Gyratory Compactor in one laboratory. The samples were then cut to specific dimensions for semi-circular bend testing based on the AASHTO Specifications at a single laboratory using a dedicated cutting equipment. The samples were randomized and distributed equally among three different testing labs.</p> <p>The process was repeated three times and in some instances the rate of loading was varied.</p> <p>This experiment allowed to study the repeatability of the the Flexibility Index</p>
Evaluation of Materials for Asphalt Mixture Performance, Semi-Circular Bend Field Material
<p>The data contained herein is part of a study conducted with support from the Utah Department of Transportation. In the study, seven asphalt mixtures from across the state of Utah were collected at the plant (prior to delivery) and at laydown (prior to compaction). The mixtures were sealed in metal containers and brought to three different laboratories where the asphalt mixtures were compacted using a Superpave gyratory compactor into cylinders. Each cylinder was cut using a masonry saw to create semi-circular samples with a notch in the middle based on the specification from AASHTO T124-16. The samples were tested following the procedures outlined in the specification with some exceptions where the loading rate was changed. The results were used to developed specification limits.</p>

<p>This dataset contains the parent input used to generate the simulation files of the DeepCwind OC4 semi-submersible combined with the 5MW NREL turbine for various wind and wave conditions. The basis of the OpenFAST input files are taken from <a href="https://github.com/OpenFAST/r-test/tree/main/glue-codes/openfast/5MW_OC4Semi_WSt_WavesWN">OpenFAST r-test GitHub repository (5MW_OC4Semi_WSt_WavesWN)</a> and adapted to simulate various wind and wave conditions. The turbulent wind field as the input to the InflowWind module is generated using <a href="https://www.nrel.gov/wind/nwtc/turbsim.html">TurbSim</a>. The simulations are performed on a modified version of OpenFAST v3.5.3 to which adaptation to the code is made to extract additional Morison drag output up to 16 cylindrical members. This adapted code is <a href="https://github.com/abkpribadi/openfast/tree/Morison_additional_output">uploaded on GitHub as a branch from a forked OpenFAST repository</a>. In total there are 1152 simulation results consists of 768 irregular waves and 384 regular waves cases. The complete dataset is divided into 9 sub-datasets, see "Related work" section. A report describing this dataset will be made available on BEL-Float project website by November 2024: https://www.owi-lab.be/bel-float.</p>
