Ray Tracing-Based Delay Model for Compensating Gravitational Deformations of VLBI Radio Telescopes (Data Set)

<p>The precision and the reliability of very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) depend on several factors. Apart from fabrication discrepancies or meteorological effects, gravity-induced deformations of the receiving unit of VLBI radio telescopes are identified as a crucial error source biasing VLBI products and obtained results such as the scale of a realized global geodetic reference frame. Gravity-induced deformations are systematical errors and yield signal path variations (SPVs). In 1988, Clark and Thomsen derived a VLBI delay model, which was adopted by the International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry (IVS) to reduce these systematic errors. However, the model parametrizes the SPV by a linear substitute function and considers only deformations acting rotationally symmetrically. The aim of this investigation is to derive the signal path variations of a legacy radio telescope and a modern broadband VGOS-specified radio telescope and to study the effect of nonrotationally symmetric deformation patterns. For that purpose, SPVs are obtained from a nonlinear spatial ray tracing approach. For the first time, a tilt and a displacement of the subreflector perpendicular to the optical axis of the feed unit is taken into account. The results prove the commonly used VLBI delay model as a suitable first-order delay model to reduce gravity-induced deformations.</p>

Magnetic field reversal in the turbulent environment around a repeating fast radio burst

<p>All the bursts of FRB 20190520B detected from the Green Bank Telescope (GBT) that was used in the Anna-Thomas et al (2022) paper. This dataset contains both L-Band (1.4 GHz) and C-Band (6 GHz) bursts. The data is in pulse archive format, which can be read using the software suite PSRCHIVE or the package PyPulse. The L-band bursts are not calibrated. The C-Band bursts which has an extension .calib is calibrated for both flux and polarization and those which has an extension .calibP is only calibrated for polarization.&nbsp;</p>

The dataset includes the azimuthal-averaged parameters with 0.2&deg;resolution, three-day forecast, and two experiments for all cases analyzed in the publication. Due to the data size, only the variables used in the figures are uploaded (i.e., relative humidity, relative vorticity, temperature, and water vapor mixing ratio). Detailed information, composite calculation, and model settings can be found in the publication.</p>

Data for: Using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to characterize nest site selection in wild Japanese tits (Parus minor)

<p>Selecting a suitable nest site is critical to the survival and reproduction of birds. Prospecting allows individuals to gather information on the local quality of potential future breeding sites, which may help them make the best nest site selection decision. However, few studies have focused on the direct links between the prospecting activity of breeders and subsequent nest site selection. In this study, we investigated the prospecting pattern of Japanese tits (<em>Parus minor</em>) during the pre-breeding period of the first breeding attempt and whether nest site characteristics influence their nest box visiting behaviour and occupied nest site. We used radio frequency identification (RFID) to track the movements of Japanese tits visiting nest boxes and compared nest site characteristics between visited and unvisited (control) nest boxes, as well as between visited and occupied nest boxes. We found that Japanese tits started visiting nest boxes approximately 20 days before breeding, visited an average of 6 nest boxes and eventually chose the most visited nest box for breeding activities. Japanese tits were more likely to visit nest boxes that had less canopy cover and lower shrub density but a greater total number of surrounding trees and ultimately chose breeding nest boxes with a smaller entrance inclination, in nesting trees with a larger diameter at breast height (DBH) which were surrounded by trees with a larger DBH. Our results suggest that Japanese tits visit several potential breeding sites before choosing breeding nest boxes and that nest site characteristics can influence their prospecting activity and nest site selection.</p>

Datasets for Deep Learning Based Radio Frequency Side-Channel Attack on Quantum Key Distribution

<p>The dataset contains measurements of radio-frequency electromagnetic emissions from a home-built sender module for BB84 quantum key distribution. The goal of these measurements was to evaluate information leakage through this side-channel. This dataset supplements our <a href="https://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevApplied.20.054040">publication</a> and allows to reproduce our results together with the source code hosted at <a href="https://github.com/XQP-Munich/EmissionSecurityQKD">GitHub</a> (and also on <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7965628">Zenodo</a> via integration with GitHub).<br><br>The measurements are performed using a magnetic near-field probe, an amplifier and an oscilloscope. The dataset contains raw measured data in the file format output by the oscilloscope. Use our source code to make use of it. Detailed descriptions of measurement procedure can be found in our paper and in the metadata JSON files found within the dataset.</p> <p><strong>Commented list of datasets</strong></p> <p>This file lists the datasets that were analyzed and reported on in the paper. The datasets in the list refer to directories here. Note that most of the datasets contain additional files with metadata, which detail where and how the measurements were performed. The mentioned Jupyter notebooks refer to the source code repository https://github.com/XQP-Munich/EmissionSecurityQKD (not included in this dataset). Most of those notebooks output JSON files storing results. The processed JSON files are also included in the source code repository.</p> <p>In naming of datasets,</p> <ul> <li><em>Antenna</em> refers to the log-periodic dipole antenna. Analyzed in notebook `Comparing_KeyNokey_Measurements.ipynb`.</li> <li><strong>Rev2ShieldingAntenna</strong> Raw amplitude measurements with log-periodic dipole antenna on Rev2 electronics including shielding enclosure, collected at various distances. Radio Galaxy Zoo: Tagging Radio Subjects using Text

<p>RadioTalk is a communication platform that enabled members of the Radio Galaxy Zoo (RGZ) citizen science project to engage in discussion threads and provide further descriptions of the radio subjects they were observing in the form of tags and comments. It contains a wealth of auxiliary information which is useful for the morphology identification of complex and extended radio sources. In this paper, we present this new dataset, and for the first time in radio astronomy, we combine text and images to automatically classify radio galaxies using a multi-modal learning approach. We found incorporating text features improved classification performance which demonstrates that text annotations are rare but valuable sources of information for classifying astronomical sources, and suggests the importance of exploiting multi-modal information in future citizen science projects. We also discovered over 10,000 new radio sources beyond the RGZ-DR1 catalogue in this dataset.</p>

At the time, Iwas researching for a religious programme, for the radio and by pure chance and good luck, Iwas in the centre of York at the time the street preacher was there. Iam building up a personal library of 'ambient sounds' to use on various radio shows as 'sound effects'. The recording was taken outside St Helen's Church in St Helen's Square, in the centre of York. There was a fairly large crowd walking about, shopping. It was a Saturday. Some people were standing and listening to the man, some were mocking him, others didn't even notice. It was a sunny day, with a slight wind. St Helen's square is a large 'meeting place' for people with seats, flowers and usually musicians. I live in the centre of York and hear a lot of very interesting sounds there, everything from busking musicians, to many foreign languages, church bells, animals and much more. Ireally liked the recording of the preacher as it is quite clear that he passionately believes what he is saying. He was unaware that Iwas recording him. Iwish Ihad captured his whole sermon. "I'm something of an untrained, unofficial cultural anthropologist myself. Ihave a business interviewing people to capture their personal histories. I'm always interested how people fit into their world and how they affect their world. I'm a graphic designer who works in the same building as the printing presses that I recorded. Iwalk past the presses every day on my way to talk to the folks in the prepress department. I'm on friendly but not drinking terms with the pressmen. I'm a friend with the prepress manager. Three Heidelberg presses are installed side by side in an open warehouse-like room. The presses are about twenty feet long and about five feet high. With their series of four humps or mounds where each printing cylinder is located, the presses remind one of giant, gray, mechanical caterpillars. Each press has a cyan cylinder, a magenta cylinder, a yellow cylinder and a black cylinder – so the humps are brightly colored. The presses are well lit by banks of fluorescent lights hanging from the ceiling over each press. When you walk into the press room you hear the sound of rock music blaring from a boom box radio mixed with the general din of the presses. It is only when you walk up to a press like Idid for the recordings that you really start to hear the individual strains of clicking, clacking and mechanical, syncopated chattering. When I made my recordings I was intrigued by the subtle variations in the sounds produced by these machines that aren't apparent when you first walk through the door. The pressmen were kind enough to allow me to walk right up to the presses and poke my microphone quite close to the rotating press cylinders. Iuse a Danish Pro Audio microphone about the size of a pencil eraser. An extremely sensitive mic with the capacity for capturing loud sounds such as the presses up close.
