Data from: An experimental study of the influence of lithology on compaction behaviour of broken waste rock in coal mine backfill
The research aims to explore the influences of lithology on the compaction behaviours of broken waste rocks. For this purpose, a WAW1000D servo test machine and a self-made bidirectional loading test system for granular materials were used to conduct axial and lateral compaction tests on four typical types of broken waste rocks: sandstone, mudstone, limestone, and shale. On this basis, we analysed the relationships between lateral and axial stress with the strain in, and porosity of, the four types of broken waste rocks. In addition, the relationship of axial stress with lateral stress and lateral pressure coefficient, and the changes in the particle size distribution of broken waste rocks before, and after, compaction were discussed. The test results demonstrated that the samples of higher strength were found to have low lateral and axial strains as well as a lower porosity in axial and lateral loading tests; while samples of lower strength showed low lateral stress and lateral pressure coefficient under axial load. After being compacted, the samples of the four types of broken waste rocks were found to have a higher proportion of small particles, indicating some particle crushing. Moreover, the samples of lower strength were broken to a greater extent.
Data from: Experimental study on permeability characteristics for containing-gas raw coal under different stress conditions
The experimental study on permeability characteristics for raw coal under different stress state is implemented by applying the triaxial self-made "THM coupled with servo-controlled seepage apparatus for containing-gas coal", the result indicates: The flow rate of coal sample gradually decreases with the nonlinear loading of axial pressure and increases with the nonlinear unloading of axial stress and confining pressure. The flow rate, axial stress and confining pressure curves all satisfy the negative exponential function relation. When the sample reaches the peak intensity, the sample will be destroyed and the stress will drop rapidly, then the flow rate of the sample will increase rapidly. At this stage, the flow rate and axial strain show an oblique "v" pattern. The flow rate of coal sample increases nonlinear with the increase of gas pressure, the relation curve between flow rate and gas pressure satisfies power function relation. Under the condition of same confining pressure and gas pressure, the larger the axial stress is, the flow rate of coal sample will be smaller. Under the condition of same axial stress and gas pressure, as confining pressure decreases, the flow rate of coal sample will firstly decrease, but then increase. During the loading and unloading process post-peak, the flow rate of coal sample will decrease with the loading of confining pressure but increase with the unloading of confining pressure, and it will increase in wave shape with the increase of axial strain. The flow rate of each loading and unloading confining pressure is higher than that of the previous loading and unloading confining pressure. At the post-peak stage, the relation curve between the flow rate of coal sample and confining pressure satisfies the power function relation in the process of loading and unloading confining pressure.
Data from: Destabilitation and energy characteristics of coal pillar in roadway driving along gob based on rockburst risk assessment
Roadway driving along adjacent goafs is an effective method to develop the recovery rate of coal resources. However, rock burst triggered by dynamic destabilization of coal pillars poses serious threats to safe and efficient mining, thereby significantly restricting the sustainable development of coal mines. In this study, from the perspectives of energy accumulation and dissipation, a mathematic model of coal pillar is established and the energy equilibrium relationship of the mechanical system is analyzed. The rock burst mechanism of coal pillars in gob-side entry is obtained based on a fold catastrophe mathematical model. Results indicate that the rock burst triggered by the instability is a destabilization phenomenon. If the stiffness factor of the mechanical system is less than 1 and the external force is enough to lead coal pillars to the peak stress point, then rock burst disaster occurs. The engineering analysis and numerical simulation are conducted to study the rock burst in the gob-side entry that occurred in Xin'an coal mine. Stress release caused by mining can reduce the risk of rock burst to a certain extent. The amount of elastic energy released is 6.4512×107 J, which is close to the observation data and verifies the correctness and rationality of the research method. The research result provides a theoretical basis and technical guidance for rock burst prevention and control in roadway driving along adjacent goafs.
Data from: Numerical simulation of induced cutting in deep coal
Deep coal cutting is a hot research topic at present. In this paper, the cutting technology of three-drum shearer was proposed based on previous studies. Besides, the influence of confining pressure on coal cutting performance was studied by using the discrete element method, and the induction effect of central cutting on coal cutting performance was discussed. Moreover, coal cutting with different boundary conditions was simulated with the aid of PFC2D software. The results show that as the confining pressure increases, the model dominated by tensile failure does not change, but the crack gradually develops from the vertical direction to the free surface of coal. The cutting debris first increases and then decreases, so does the cutting force. Under the effect of central cutting, the crack tends to develop towards the free surface of coal more, and both the peak cutting force and the specific energy consumption increase with the increase of confining pressure. Induced by central cutting, with the increase of confining pressure, the reduction value of peak cutting force increases first and then decreases while the reduction value of cutting specific energy consumption increases.
