<p>Data accompanying the paper titled: Understanding the moisture variance in precipitating shallow cumulus convection .</p> <p> </p> <p>This repository contains configuration files and output statistics for three idealized simulations run with LES model MicroHH (van Heerwaarden et al., 2017). </p> <p><br> The experimental setup of all cases is based on the Rain in Cumulus over the Ocean (RICO) field experiment as used in the GEWEX Cloud System Study (GCSS) RICO model inter comparison study (Rauber et al., 2007; vanZanten et al, 2011). The experiment, defined as the standard case (referenced as STD), uses the GCSS configuration, while the second experiment, termed as the moist case (referenced as MST), is initialized with an increased moisture content in the cloud layer and above of about 2 g/kg. Both of these experiments cover a domain size of 50 x 50 x 6 km with an isotropic grid spacing of 25 m. The control simulation (referenced as CTRL) is a non-precipitating reference simulation. The setup for the control case is identical to the setup of the standard case, except for a smaller domain size of 8 x 8 x 6 km.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>The files are organized in the following way: </p> <p>Each case has its own folder (CTRL, MST, and STD). </p> <p>Each such folder contains a 'setup' sub-folder with the configuration files for the microHH simulation: an '.ini' file and a '.py' file that generates initial conditions and forcings. </p> <p>Output statistics are located in the 'statistics_output' sub-folders. They contain '.nc' files with statistics from 30 h to 35 h of the simulation. Conditional spatial averaging was performed in order to understand the significance of the convective regions. Files valid for cloud active regions are marked with '_CA'. Files valid for non active regions are marked with '_NA' (Bastak Duran, Geleyn, Vana, Schmidli, & Brozkova, 2018). Files without '_CA' or '_NA' are valid for the whole domain.</p>

<p>This radar mosaic maps dataset concludes 112 wavelike banded convective events over southern China from 2013 to 2021. Among 112 cases, 42 cases were identified to evolve with the presence of a wave duct.</p>

Model output data for compressible EULAG dynamical core in COSMO: convective-scale Alpine weather forecasts
<p>The archive contains model output data for article "Compressible EULAG dynamical core in COSMO: convective-scale Alpine weather forecasts" to be published in Monthly Weather Review.</p> <p>The article presents the semi-implicit compressible EULAGas a newdynamical core for convective-scale<br> numerical weather prediction. The core is implemented within the infrastructure of the<br> operational model of the Consortium for Small Scale Modeling (COSMO), forming the NWP<br> COSMO-EULAG model (CE). This regional high-resolution implementation of the dynamical<br> core complements its global implementation in the Finite-Volume Module of ECMWF’s Integrated<br> Forecasting System. The paper documents the first operational-like application of the dynamical<br> core for realistic weather forecasts. After discussing the formulation of the core and its coupling<br> with the host model, the paper considers several high-resolution prognostic experiments over<br> complex Alpine orography. Standard verification experiments examine the sensitivity of the CE<br> forecast to the choice of the advection routine and assess the forecast skills against those of the<br> default COSMO Runge-Kutta dynamical core at the 2.2 km grid showing a general improvement.<br> The skills are also compared using satellite observations for a weak-flow convective Alpine weather<br> case-study, showing favorable results. Additional validation of the new CE framework for partly<br> convection-resolving forecasts using 1.1 km, 0.55 km, 0.22 km, and 0.1 km grids, designed to<br> challenge its numerics and test the dynamics-physics coupling, demonstrates its high robustness in<br> simulating multi-phase flows over complex mountain terrain, with slopes reaching 85 degrees, and<br> the flow’s realistic representation.</p>

The time resolution is 60 seconds and the spatial resolution is 1km. The .mat file also included an x array and height array (km)</p>

The CSIP pilot project was conducted in July 2004 centred around the Chilbolton radar facility where there is a 25 metre radar dish with two of the most sophisticated meteorological radars in the world. The pilot project utilised many of the instruments and facilities from the NCAS Universities' Facility for Atmospheric Measurement (UFAM) including a Cessna aircraft, wind profiler, Doppler lidar, sodar and automatic weather stations and scientists from the universities of Aberystwyth, Leeds, Reading, Salford, Essex, Bath and UMIST as well also from the Met Office.

<p>Please find the full README file for the code and ICON-PER ellipse datasets by extracting the archive " PER_archive_data.tar.gz ".<br> <br> The other two archives contain example simulation output for two simulations - one with parameterised convection and one with convection-permitting set-up in ICON.</p> <p>The download_all.sh bash script allows one to select the download of the full set of simulations in this dataset. They can also be selected individually, by altering the sequence of ensemble members over which the download-loop ("wget") runs (PER-simulations!), or by removing lines from the download_all.sh-script (for removing simulations from "PAR"-dataset).</p>
