The VADCP was deployed on April 1, 2003, with initial instrument adjustment completed on April 25, 2003.&nbsp; Data recording ended on October 30, 2003.</p>

Each system has been simulated at two temperatures, 300 K and 340 K. Starting configurations of the proteins after equilibration are provided for all the systems in GRO Gromos87 format. Trajectories with the positions of the proteins every 100 ps are provided for all the systems in XTC gromacs format.</p>

Data from: Detecting sub-micron space weathering effects in lunar grains with synchrotron infrared nanospectroscopy

<p>Space weathering processes induce changes to the physical, chemical, and optical properties of space-exposed soil grains. For the Moon, space weathering causes reddening, darkening, and diminished contrast in reflectance spectra over visible and near-infrared wavelengths. The physical and chemical changes responsible for these optical effects occur on scales below the diffraction limit of traditional far-field spectroscopic techniques. Recently developed super-resolution spectroscopic techniques provide an opportunity to understand better the optical effects of space weathering on the sub-micrometer length scale. This paper uses synchrotron infrared nanospectroscopy to examine depth-profile samples from two mature lunar soils in the mid-infrared, 1500–700 cm<sup>-1</sup> (6.7–14.3 µm). Our findings are broadly consistent with prior bulk observations and theoretical models of space weathered spectra of lunar materials. These results provide a direct spatial link between the physical/chemical changes in space-exposed grain surfaces and spectral changes of space-weathered bodies.</p>

Data from: Variations of trophic structure and niche space in fish community along a highly regulated subtropical large river

<p><span>The trophic interactions between consumers and resources play a vital role in the stability of communities.</span><span> In river systems, fragmentation of natural habitats and environmental changes alters the energy basis and community composition, consequently leading to variations in the community's trophic structure and niche space. However, our understanding of how the trophic structure responds to environmental changes is still very limited. Here, based on stable isotope data, we explored and compared trophic positions (TPs), community-wide trophic metrics, and isotope niche space of fish communities in three reaches with different hydrogeomorphic conditions along a highly regulated subtropical river over three seasons. The community trophic structure and niche space showed notable spatiotemporal variations. Overall, the downstream reach had lower</span> <span>TPs and trophic</span><span> diversity but higher trophic redundancy. The middle reach occupied a wider isotope niche space than other reaches, with the largest niche size during autumn. Furthermore, the niche overlap was relatively high in winter between reaches and in the downstream between seasons. The results implied a homogenization of feeding functional groups and energy flow pathways of species in the downstream community associated with the change of energy source and stability of hydrological conditions.</span> <span>The relationship between trophic structure and environmental factors suggested that the dam-induced alteration in hydrological-related aspects may drive the changes in the functional group composition, together with changes in energy basis, resulting in differences in the trophic structure of the community. The results of the present study deepen our understanding of how ecosystem functions respond to disturbance,</span> <span>thus contributing to an improved ability to conserve river ecosystems.</span></p>

<p>The code, data, and R objects in this repository accompany a paper titled 'Love thy neighbour: feral buffalo show greater space use, resource overlap and encounters during the wet season in the Northern Territory'.</p> <p>In this paper we used spatially explicit movement models to understand buffalo movement and social behaviour to provide decision support to wildlife managers. We used continuous time movement models to produce autocorrelated kernel density estimates of buffalo home ranges and encounter space from 126,567 locations from 17 buffalo GPS tracked from November 2018 to April 2019. We compared the movement, space use and social behaviour of buffalo between the wet and dry season of the Djelk area, when resource availability is vastly different in the wetland areas of the Northern Territory.&nbsp;Results from these models can be used by land holders, traditional owners, and wildlife managers to make evidence-based decisions to optimize buffalo management in respect to disease risk, sustainable harvest, and damage to environmental and cultural assets.</p> <p>The R Markdown, and accompanying data detail the modelling process from data pre-processing, fitting home ranges, comparing home range overalp and estimating social encounter area for the buffalo over three seasonal periods. Estimating home ranges can be computationally taxing and re-creating home range estimates for each buffalo can take several hours depending on the computing power of the user so intermediate outputs have also been included.&nbsp;</p>

Data from: Tracking shifts in forest structural complexity through space and time in human-modified tropical landscapes

<p>Habitat structural complexity is an emergent property of ecosystems that directly shapes their biodiversity, functioning and resilience to disturbance. Yet despite its importance, we continue to lack consensus on how best to define structural complexity, nor do we have a generalised approach to measure habitat complexity across ecosystems. To bridge this gap, here we adapt a geometric framework developed to quantify the surface complexity of coral reefs and apply it to the canopies of tropical rainforests. Using high-resolution, repeat-acquisition airborne laser scanning data collected over 450 km2 of human-modified tropical landscapes in Borneo, we generated 3D canopy height models of forests at varying stages of recovery from logging. We then tested whether the geometric framework of habitat complexity – which characterises 3D surfaces according to their height range, rugosity and fractal dimension – was able to detect how both human and natural disturbances drive variation in canopy structure through space and time across these landscapes. We found that together, these three metrics of surface complexity captured major differences in canopy 3D structure between highly-degraded, selectively logged and old-growth forests. Moreover, the three metrics were able to track distinct temporal patterns of structural recovery following logging and wind disturbance. However, in the process we also uncovered several important conceptual and methodological limitations with the geometric framework of habitat complexity. We found that fractal dimension was highly sensitive to small variations in data inputs and was ecologically counteractive (e.g., higher fractal dimension in oil palms than old-growth forests), while rugosity and height range were tightly correlated (r=0.75) due to their strong dependency on maximum tree height. Our results suggest that forest structural complexity cannot be summarised using these three descriptors alone, as they overlook key features of canopy vertical and horizontal structure that arise from the way trees fill 3D space.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>

Data from: Phloem-feeding insects creat parasitoid free space for caterpillars

<p>Seemingly small ecological changes can have large, ramifying effects that defy expectations. Such are keystone effects in ecosystems. Phloem-feeding insect herbivores can act as keystone species by altering community structure and species interactions via plant-mediated or ant-mediated mechanisms. Plant responses triggered by phloem-feeders can disrupt tri-trophic interactions induced by leaf-chewing herbivores, while ants that tend phloem-feeders can deter or prey on other arthropods. Here, we investigate how phloem-feeding herbivores change caterpillar-parasitoid interactions on <em>Quercus alba</em> (white oak) trees in natural forests. We factorially manipulated the presence of phloem-feeding insects as well as ant access on <em>Q. alba</em> branches over multiple years and sites, and measured parasitism rates of co-occurring caterpillars. While 19.3% of caterpillars were parasitized when phloem-feeders were removed, the presence of phloem-feeders completely suppressed parasitism of caterpillars (0%). This stark pattern was consistent across the diverse community of phloem-feeders and caterpillars. Our manipulation of ant access had no effect on parasitism of caterpillars, implicating a plant-mediated mechanism. We further assessed the mechanistic hypothesis that phloem-feeders suppress plant emission of caterpillar-induced volatile compounds, which could disrupt host location behavior by parasitoids of caterpillars. Phloem-feeders indeed reduced concentrations of four volatile compounds, consistent with the putative plant volatile-mediated mechanism. Given the important role of parasitoids in controlling herbivore populations, this keystone effect of phloem-feeders offers novel insight into community dynamics in forests and potentially other terrestrial ecosystems.</p>
