Global Invasive Species Database (GISD)
<p>The Global Invasive Species Database is a free, online searchable source of information about alien and invasive species that negatively impact biodiversity. The GISD aims to increase public awareness about invasive species and to facilitate effective prevention and management activities by disseminating specialist__s knowledge and experience to a broad global audience. It focuses on invasive alien species that threaten native biodiversity and natural areas and covers all taxonomic groups from micro-organisms to animals and plants.The Global Invasive Species Database (GISD) is managed by the Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) of the IUCN Species Survival Commission. It was developed between 1998 and 2000 as part of the global initiative on invasive species led by the erstwhile Global Invasive Species Programme (GISP).</p> <p>http://www.iucngisd.org/gisd/about.php</p>
Thermal Sensation Classification Dataset based on ASHRAE Global Thermal Comfort Database II
<p><span>The dataset is based on ASHRAE Global Thermal Comfort Database II (version 2.01), which includes sets of objective indoor and outdoor climatic observations with accompanying “<em>right-here-right-now</em>” subjective evaluations by the building occupants. Data rows lacking information for any of the selected variables from the original dataset were excluded. Consequently, the dataset contains 10,618 data rows. Data from: A global database and 'state of the field' review of research into ecosystem engineering by land animals.
1. Ecosystem engineers have been widely studied for terrestrial systems, but global trends in research encompassing the range of taxa and functions have not previously been synthesised. 2. We synthesised contemporary understanding of engineer fauna in terrestrial habitats and assessed the methods used to document patterns and processes, asking: 1.Which species act as ecosystem engineers and with whom do they interact? 2. What are the impacts of ecosystem engineers in terrestrial habitats and how are they distributed? 3. What are the primary methods used to examine engineer effects and how have these developed over time? We considered the strengths, weaknesses and gaps in knowledge related to each of these questions, and suggested a conceptual framework to delineate 'significant impacts' of engineering interactions for all terrestrial animals. 3. We collected peer-reviewed publications examining ecosystem engineer impacts and created a database of engineer species to assess experimental approaches and any additional covariates that influenced the magnitude of engineer impacts. 4. One hundred and twenty-two species from twenty-eight orders were identified as ecosystem engineers, performing five ecological functions. Burrowing mammals were the most researched group (27%). Half of all studies occurred in dry/arid habitats. Mensurative studies comparing sites with and without engineers (80%) were more common than manipulative studies (20%). These provided a broad framework for predicting engineer impacts upon abundance and species diversity. However, the roles of confounding factors, processes driving these patterns, and the consequences of experimentally adjusting variables, such as engineer density, have been neglected. True spatial and temporal replication have also been limited, particularly for emerging studies of engineer reintroductions. 5. Climate change and habitat modification will challenge the roles that engineers play in regulating ecosystems, and these will become important avenues for future research. We recommend future studies include simulation of engineer effects and experimental manipulation of engineer densities to determine the potential for ecological cascades through trophic and engineering pathways due to functional decline. We also recommend improving knowledge of long-term engineering effects and replication of engineer reintroductions across landscapes to better understand how large-scale ecological gradients alter the magnitude of engineering impacts.
Database of global glendonite and ikaite records throughout the Phanerozoic
<p>Here database of Phanerozoic occurrences and isotopic characteristics of metastable cold-water calcium carbonate hexahydrate (ikaite; CaCO3•6H2O) and its pseudomorphs (glendonites) is represented. The previous version of this database included 753 records ranged from Cambrian to recent, based on 376 references, the authors’ data and additional personal communications from the colleagues. The updated database includes 939 localities based on 476 references. Database is provided as Excel2003 (.xls)- file, which consists from 6 sheets. The major sheet ‘Glendonites and latitudes’ includes a list of localities along with latitude / longitude, geologic age (in Ma and substage), palaeolatitude, references, environments and host rock for all records. Items from the previous version of this database, which were corrected in terms of age / coordinates / references are highlighted by yellow. Three sheets, entitled “Cenozoic glendonite and ikaite”, “Mesozoic glendonite” and “Paleozoic glendonite” includes data concerning carbon and oxygen stable isotope values of, respectively, Cenozoic, Mesozoic and Paleozoic samples. The sheet “References” contains list of references in APA style, accompanied by DOI numbers and hyperlinks to electronic versions (if available). The last sheet contains a list of updates compared with the previous version of this database.
