Data from: Allopatric divergence and hybridization within Cupressus chengiana (Cupressaceae), a threatened conifer in the northern Hengduan Mountains of western China
<p class="CxSpFirst">Having a comprehensive understanding of population structure, genetic differentiation and demographic history is important for the conservation and management of threatened species. High‐throughput sequencing (HTS) provides exciting opportunities to address a wide range of factors for conservation genetics. Here, we generated HTS data and identified 266,884 high‐quality single nucleotide polymorphisms from 82 individuals of <i>Cupressus chengiana </i>, to assess population genomics across the species' full range, comprising the Daduhe River (DDH), Minjiang River (MJR) and Bailongjiang River (BLJ) catchments in western China. admixture , principal components analysis and phylogenetic analyses indicated that each region contains a distinct lineage, with high levels of differentiation between them (DDH, MJR and BLJ lineages). MJR was newly distinguished compared to previous surveys, and evidence including coalescent simulations supported a hybrid origin of MJR during the Quaternary. Each of these three lineages should be recognized as an evolutionarily significant unit (ESU), due to isolation, differing genetic adaptations and different demographic history. Currently, each ESU faces distinct threats, and will require different conservation strategies. Our work shows that population genomic approaches using HTS can reconstruct the complex evolutionary history of threatened species in mountainous regions, and hence inform conservation efforts, and contribute to the understanding of high biodiversity in mountains.</p>
Data from: New material of Gobicyon (Carnivora, Amphicyonidae, Haplocyoninae) from northern China and a review of Aktaucyonini evolution
The aberrant carnivore Gobicyon has been known for more than 80 years, but the evolutionary position and taxonomic diversity of this animal remain unclear due to the paucity of the known fossils. Here, we report a much richer and better preserved assemblage of Gobicyon material from Tongxin and Hezheng areas, northern China. Two new species, Gobicyon yei sp. nov. from the early Middle Miocene in Tongxin area and Gobicyon acutus sp. nov. from the late Middle Miocene in Hezheng area were recognised. Much better material of Gobicyon macrognathus and one isolated tooth of Gobicyon zhegalloi from Tongxin area are also described in detail. Gobicyon is recognised as a derived haplocyonid. A phylogenetic analysis of Gobicyon and related taxa was performed for the first time. The phylogenetic tree suggests a close relationship of Aktaucyon and Gobicyon (Aktaucyonini). Among the taxa traditionally included in haplocyonids, Haplocyonopsis is the closest to Aktaucyonini, as supported by its centrally located M1 protocone and a uniformly distributed M1 lingual cingulum. The most significant evolutionary trends of Gobicyon are the reduction of the posterior molars (M2 and M3) and the strengthening of P4 and M1, suggesting a forward shift of crushing function along the tooth row.

<p>Satellite data includes daily sea-level anomaly from AVISO, daily surface chlorophyll a data from OC-CCI and sea surface salinity obtained from SMAP. Model simulated daily current, temperature, salinity, chlorophyll and nitrate concentration for three experiments (control, case1 and case2) from our coupled physical-biological model of the South China Sea . For chlorophyll and nitrate concentration, the dataset also includes the 16-day averaged budget terms along section S1. The modeled lagrangian particl tracking data is also avaiable. And all data and matlab scripts used to draw Fig. 1 to Fig. 10 are in Figure_data.rar file.</p>
Northern Hemisphere summer insolation and ice volume driven variations in hydrological environment in southwest China
<p>This dataset from a stalagmite record from Chongqing, Southwest China, provides a high-resolution trace element record from the Last Glacial-Interglacial (116.09 to 4.07 ka BP) up to the sub-centennial scale. Line scans of Element/Calcium ratios of the speleothem were measured by laser ablation ICPMS. Chronology is based on 58 U-Th ages.</p>

Ocean bottom seismometer data of the OBS2020-1 profile at the northern continental margin of the South China Sea
<p> Ocean bottom seismometer hydrophone data in SEG-Y format of 11 OBS stations along the OBS2020-1 profile and travel times used for the forward modeling and tomographic inversion. The travel times include the primary phases and secondary phases which are seawater layer multiples at the receiver side. Meanwhile, the OBS locations are also submitted to this repository.</p>
Table S1 The grain size, TOC and elemental composition of sediment samples in the northern South China Sea
<p><span>Grain size measurements of the sediments were carried out on a Mastersizer 3000 laser particle size analyzer</span><span>. Prior to analysis organic matter was removed by leaching the sediment with 15% H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>. Total organic carbon (TOC) of the sediments was measured in </span><span>Thermo EA-IsoLink elemental analyzer</span><span>. Prior to analysis carbon bound to carbonate minerals was removed by leaching the sediment with 10% HCl. Total element concentrations (Al, Ca, Ti, Fe, Mn) of the bulk sediments were measured after acid digestion (HF, HNO<sub>3</sub> and HCl) by </span><span>Thermo iCAP 7400 ICP-OES</span><span>. Solid phase iron speciation data were measured following sequential Fe extraction (Fe<sub>carb</sub>, Fe<sub>ox</sub>, Fe<sub>mag</sub>, Fe<sub>py</sub>) by T</span><span>hermo iCAP 7400 ICP-OES</span><span>.</span></p>
