Evaluation of Materials for Low Temperature Asphalt Pavement Performance, BBR Field study

<p>Asphalt mixtures were collected from seven construction projects, both of the plant and during laydown. One SGC cylindrical specimen or &lsquo;puck&rsquo; of 80 mm thickness was prepared for each type of mixture. By doing so, 14 different SGC pucks were obtained. The pucks were labeled as &lsquo;UT-01-P&rsquo; to &lsquo;UT-07-P&rsquo; for plant mixtures and &lsquo;UT-01-F&rsquo; to &lsquo;UT-07-F&rsquo; for mixtures that were obtained during laydown in the field. Because of compacting to a specific height, the air voids of the compacted pucks varied from 3% to 6%.</p> <p>In Lab A, the specimens were tested in the Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR) by following the AASHTO TP 125-16 testing procedure at three different temperatures: -12&deg;C, -18&deg;C, and -24&deg;C. On the other hand, in Lab C, the specimens were tested at only one temperature&nbsp; (PG + 10&deg;C). In average, 12 specimens were tested for each mixture at both of the laboratories.</p>

A Performance Evaluation of the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) over the Tibetan Plateau

<p>The data is associated with the paper titled &quot;A Performance Evaluation of the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) over the Tibetan Plateau&quot; which is published in Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology with the doi: 10.1175/JTECH-D-17-0144.1. The abstract is as follows:</p> <p>A systematic evaluation of the performance of the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN)&nbsp;over the Tibetan Plateau is conducted using data from the Cloud-to-Ground Lightning Location System&nbsp;(CGLLS) developed by the State Grid Corporation of China for 2013&ndash;15 and lightning data from the satellitebased&nbsp;Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) for 2014&ndash;15. The average&nbsp;spatial location separation magnitudes in the midsouthern Tibetan Plateau (MSTP) region between&nbsp;matched WWLLN and CGLLS strokes and over the whole Tibetan Plateau between matched WWLLN and&nbsp;LIS flashes were 9.97 and 10.93 km, respectively. The detection efficiency (DE) of the WWLLN rose markedly&nbsp;with increasing stroke peak current, and the mean stroke peak currents of positive and negative cloud-toground&nbsp;(CG) lightning detected by theWWLLNin the MSTP region were 62.43 and256.74 kA, respectively.&nbsp;The duration, area, and radiance of the LIS flashes that were also detected by the WWLLN were 1.27, 2.65,&nbsp;and 4.38 times those not detected by the WWLLN. The DE of the WWLLN in the MSTP region was 9.37%&nbsp;for CG lightning and 2.58% for total lightning. Over the Tibetan Plateau, the DE of the WWLLN for total&nbsp;lightning was 2.03%. In the MSTP region, theCGflash data made up 71.98% of allWWLLNflash data. Based&nbsp;on the abovementioned results, the ratio of intracloud (IC) lightning to CG lightning in the MSTP region was&nbsp;estimated to be 4.05.</p>

Evaluating the Overhead of the Performance Profiler Cloudprofiler With MooBench

<p>The dataset is the experimental results of the paper "Evaluating the Overhead of the Performance Profiler Cloudprofiler With MooBench". The results include Cloudprofiler and all target performance frameworks of MooBench in the current main branch. The experimental environment is an on-premise, bare metal server with two Intel Xeon E5-2650 CPUs and 64 GiB RAM on each NUMA domain. It runs the Debian 12.6 Linux on a single 480 GB SSD. The JVM-based performance benchmarks ran with OpenJDK 17.0.2, and Cloudprofiler's C++ library was built with GCC 12.2.0. The Kieker Python framework ran with Python 3.11.2.</p> <p>MooBenchs target frameworks and benchmark scripts are maintained separately under "<code>frameworks/&lt;target benchmkark&gt;</code>" (the &lt;target_benchmark&gt; label is the placeholder for each performance frameworks), and the MooBench execution results are stored under "<code>frameworks/&lt;target benchmkark&gt;/results-&lt;target_benchmark&gt;</code>". Data from: The effect of pollination mode on seed performance of Gentiana lutea: a laboratory evaluation of seed germinability

Gentiana lutea L. (yellow gentian, Gentianaceae) is a protected orophyte of central and southern Europe, mainly threatened by the uncontrolled collection of its rhizome, used in traditional medicine and for liquor production. The species is self-compatible, but outcrossing mediated by pollinators is needed to obtain a viable progeny. In this study, we considered five natural populations belonging to the four subspecies of G. lutea. We performed controlled pollinations in the field (self- versus cross-pollination) followed by seed germination tests in laboratory conditions, adding a solution of gibberellic acid, in order to evaluate the seed performance. A cumulative index of inbreeding depression was calculated considering maternal reproductive output as well as seed performance traits. Seed weight and seed germination performance was similar between seeds resulting from naturally pollinated and pollen-augmented flowers and higher compared to selfed flowers, highlighting a disadvantage of selfing and the importance of cross-pollen transfer in natural conditions. However, in the small and isolated population of G. lutea subsp. symphyandra on Mt Grande we found a general reduction in seed germination rate, likely due to increased selfing or mating among close relatives as a consequence of a severe bottleneck. We discuss our results with regards to implications for conservation practices.

Data for: Preparation and performance evaluation of latex

<p class="a"><span>To prevent considerable foaming of the latex cement slurry, soap-free emulsion polymerization was employed to prepare latex, which did not require a stabilizer to achieve good stability of the latex. In addition, effects of the AMPS addition, monomer ratio, synthesis temperature, and stirring speed on the performance of the latex were investigated by using AMPS, styrene, and butyl acrylate as the reaction monomers, and the latex was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and TEM.</span></p> <p class="a"><span>The stability of latex was significantly affected by AMPS addition, with good stability at an AMPS content of greater than 30%. With the increase in the addition amount of AMPS, the fluid loss of the cement slurry decreased and then increased; it was the lowest at 40% AMPS, with a loss of 27.32 mL. The analysis suggested that this result may be attributed to the effect of the AMPS addition on the particle size of the latex, resulting in a change in the fluid loss of the cement slurry.</span></p> <p class="a"><span>With the increase in the mass ratio of St:BA, the fluid loss of the cement slurry first decreased and then increased, reaching an optimum value at a St:BA mass ratio of 5:4, where the fluid loss was only 18.98 mL. This result indicated that a reasonable ratio of hard and soft monomers helps to ensure that the latex exhibits an ability to control fluid loss.</span></p> <p class="a"><span>With the increase in the synthesis temperature, the fluid loss of the cement slurry decreased first and then increased, and the fluid loss of the cement slurry was the lowest in the temperature range of 75–85℃. The synthesis temperature also mainly affected the particle size of latex as well as the fluid loss of the cement slurry.</span></p> <p class="a"><span>With the increase in the mixing speed, the fluid loss of the cement slurry increased first and then decreased, and the fluid loss of cement slurry was the lowest at a mixing speed of 400 r·min<sup>-1</sup>.</span></p> <p class="a"><span>BSA latex exhibited good stability after seven freeze-thaw cycles between -20°C and 20°C.</span></p> <p class="a"><span>BSA latex did not cause foaming issues in the prepared latex cement slurry.</span></p>

ASEAN as network governance: an alternative lens to evaluate policymaking and performance

<p><strong><span>Background:</span></strong><span> This article offers a new perspective of ASEAN as network governance (NG) at its core, with a hierarchical organisational structure as its front (hybrid organisation). The works on network forms of organisation and policy network theory (PNT) were used </span><span>for</span><span> the analysis. </span></p> <p><span><strong>Methods</strong>:</span> Two <span>case studies from the ASEAN </span><span>Community</span><span> were selected to show the applicability and effectiveness of NG. </span><span>They were selected for their prominence and the prevalence of critical comments on their ineffectiveness in promoting ASEAN's integration. A study on how these policies are made and implemented in ASEAN was evaluated using a qualitative research methodology by analysing existing literature. </span></p> <p><span><strong>Results</strong>:</span><span> The findings show </span><span>ASEAN </span><span>as a hybrid structure that has helped in two ways critical to </span><span>ASEAN's</span><span> survival and relevance</span><span>.</span><span> First, </span><span>the</span><span> approach provides legitimacy for ASEAN in the international community by purposefully adopting structures similar to the EU without the supranational elements. Second, it highlights ASEAN's goal of asserting </span><span>its </span><span>centrality. While adopting a hybrid structure has led to the soft institutionalisation of ASEAN, characterised by a less empowered secretariat, whose member states are the decision-makers and implementors of policies, adopting NG better reflects the underpinnings allowing a more nuanced assessment of </span><span>its</span><span> performance. In addition, it opens a pathway to recognising the states' autonomy where the extent of actors' will and interests leads to decision</span><span>-</span><span>making and defines ASEAN's performance.</span></p> <p><span><strong>Conclusions</strong>: </span><span>This article demonstrates ASEAN's goal to pursue ASEAN centrality in regional cooperation and institutional arrangements through the alternative approach of NG. NG allows for a nuanced assessment of ASEAN's performance by first highlighting ASEAN's context and history and emphasising the role of member states as decision-makers and implementers of policies. The NG framework has contributed to ASEAN's legitimacy and centrality, fostering regional integration despite its inherent limitations.</span></p>
