Experimental data of photovoltaic cable submersion tests

<p>Experimental data tables regarding the study of submersion of photovoltaic cables (with two different insulation materials) in freshwater and artificial seawater. Subjected to real life conditions, replicating when FPV systems are located in reservoirs or in the marine environment. Data from: Is a community state reachable, and why?, and Coexistence and collapse: an experimental investigation of the persistent communities of a protist species pool

<p>Deterministic models have difficulties to take into account stochasticity during community assembly. As a tool to circumvent this problem, we present a qualitative discreteevent model, where consequences of interspecific interactions are described as rules. This model provides a map of all possible future dynamics for a given system, which allows to exhaustively describe the possible pathways during an assembly process. Such a description does not rely on species traits details and is insensitive to stochastic effects. This allows to show that subsets of species are sometimes impossible to reach starting from larger sets of species, and therefore to question the reachability of community states during the system&rsquo;s dynamics. Applying the model to an experimental dataset studying the collapse of protist communities, we obtain a very good theory-experiment agreement. We finally discuss what the notion of reachability can bring to community assembly.</p>

HyUSPRe Report & Data on 'New experimental data on reactions between H2 and well cement and effects on fluid flow and mechanical properties of well cement

<p>In this study, new experimental data is presented of the effects of H<sub>2</sub> exposure and cyclic loading on mechanical properties of oil well (class G) cement, relevant for underground hydrogen storage operations. Changes in mechanical properties (Young&rsquo;s modulus, Poisson&rsquo;s ratio and ultimate strength) have been analyzed using unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests and confined cyclic loading tests on class G cement samples that were unreacted (cured for 3 days at 80&deg;C) and exposed to lime-saturated brine and N<sub>2</sub> or H<sub>2</sub> for 1 and 2 months. Changes in cement mineralogy were analyzed by XRD analysis of the unreacted and exposed samples. The mechanical properties of elastic modulus and Poisson&rsquo;s ratio are within the expected range of an oil well cement. Differences in Young&rsquo;s modulus, Poisson&rsquo;s ratio and ultimate strength are limited between unreacted, N<sub>2</sub>-exposed and H<sub>2</sub>-exposed samples, when comparing UCS tests or confined cyclic loading tests. Repeated UCS tests seem to indicate that the variation in Young&rsquo;s modulus and ultimate strength increases after N<sub>2</sub> and H<sub>2</sub> exposure, but this observation needs to be confirmed in additional tests. During cyclic axial loading of confined cement samples, irreversible (plastic) deformation (compaction) occurs that affect static Young&rsquo;s modulus. Also, effects of exceeding yield and failure strength on Young&rsquo;s modulus are observed. Dynamic Young&rsquo;s moduli and Poisson&rsquo;s ratios derived from acoustic velocity measurements during confined cyclic tests show limited variation, in particular if static and dynamic Young&rsquo;s modulus are compared. The mineralogical changes as identified using XRD analysis suggest minor changes between unexposed and H<sub>2</sub>- and N<sub>2</sub>-exposed samples, although XRD patterns indicate some minerals that could not be identified. The main conclusion is that effects of H<sub>2</sub> exposure and cyclic loading on mechanical properties and mineralogical changes of class G cement is limited compared to unreacted or N<sub>2</sub> exposed samples for the investigated conditions. There is no indication that changes in mechanical properties of cement are such that cement integrity of wells used for underground hydrogen storage will be significantly affected. It should be emphasized that this conclusion is based on experiments on one type of cement (class G) and a limited set of conditions. In particular, additional tests to assess the reproducibility of current results and tests on samples that were exposed longer to H<sub>2</sub> and N<sub>2</sub> are of interest. Detailed effects of changing properties for the durability and integrity of wells can be derived by performing a parameter sensitivity analysis with well integrity modelling for the range in mechanical properties measured in this study.</p>

Meteorological data for the Manitou Experimental Forest, Colorado, USA, 1936-1997

The Manitou Experimental Forest is an outdoor research laboratory in Colorado, USA, that has been run by the USDA Forest Service’s Rocky Mountain Research Station since 1936. This data publication contains meteorological data collected at the Manitou Experimental Forest from 1936-11-11 to 1997-06-24. Precipitation amount, current temperature, maximum temperature, and minimum temperature were collected at daily to weekly intervals over most of this period. Precipitation type, aboveground wind speed, ground wind speed, and wind direction were collected at daily to weekly intervals over a portion of the period.

Data for “Herbivory damage but not plant disease under experimental warming is dependent on weather for three subalpine grass species”, Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, Gothic, Colorado, 2015-2017.

Both theory and prior studies predict that climate warming should increase attack rates by herbivores and pathogens on plants. However, past work has often assumed that variation in abiotic conditions other than temperature (e.g., precipitation) do not alter warming responses of plant damage by natural enemies. Studies over short time periods span low variation in weather, and studies over long-time scales often neglect to account for fine-scale weather conditions. Here, we used a 20+ year field warming experiment to investigate if warming affects herbivory and disease are dependent on variation in ambient weather observed over three years. We studied three common grass species in a subalpine meadow in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, USA. We visually estimated herbivory and disease every two-weeks during the growing season and evaluated weather conditions during the previous two- or four-week time interval (two-week average air temperature, two- and four-week cumulative precipitation) as predictors of the probability and amount of damage. Herbivore attack was 13% more likely and amount of damage was 29% greater in warmed plots than controls across the focal species, but warming treatment had little affect on plant disease. Herbivory presence and damage increased the most with experimental warming when preceded by wetter, rather than drier, fine-scale weather, but preceding ambient temperature did not strongly interact with elevated warming to influence herbivory. Disease presence and damage increased, on average, with warmer weather and more precipitation regardless of warming. The effect of warming over reference climate on herbivore damage is dependent on and amplified by fine-scale weather variation, suggesting more boom-and-bust damage dynamics with increasing climate variability. However, the mean effect of regional climate change is likely reduced monsoon rainfall, for which we predict a reduction in insect herbivore damage. Plant disease was generally unrelated

Data associated with a study on freshwater phenanthrene removal by three emergent wetland plants conducted in a microcosm experiment at the IISD Experimental Lakes Area, ON, Canada, in 2022.

The following package includes data from a study that evaluated the efficacy of three common wetland plants, Typha sp. (cattail), Carex utriculata (sedge a), and C. lasiocarpa (sedge b) in enhancing removal of phenanthrene (1 mg/L) from freshwater in a microcosm experiment conducted at the IISD Experimental Lakes Area, northwestern Ontario, Canada, in 2022. Over 21 days, microcosms were monitored for phenanthrene chemistry, basic water quality, plant growth metrics (height and final biomass), and root biofilm oxygen consumption (respirometry) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Data included in this package was first collected and used in the paper by Stanley et al., titled Freshwater Phenanthrene Removal by three Emergent Wetland Plants.

Stratified Vegetation Survey Data from an Experimental Mangrove Site in Port Aransas, Texas: 2019

We visually surveyed the vegetation at the front and back of ten large experimental plots located in a large stand of mangroves near Port Aransas, Texas on November 28th, 2019. The ten experimental plots had been thinned using a 3 x 3 m grid in 2012 to create a gradient in plot-level mangrove cover from 0 to 100 percent. We estimated percent cover in six “mangrove” and six “cleared” cells at the front and back of each plot.

Long-term datasets and background information (proposals, reports, photographs, etc.) on the SGS-LTER project are contained in a comprehensive project collection within the Digital Collections of Colorado (http://digitool.library.colostate.edu/R/?func=collections&collection_id=3429). The data table and associated metadata document, which is generated in Ecological Metadata Language, may be available through other repositories serving the ecological research community and represent components of the larger SGS-LTER project collection. LiDAR data (August 2008) for the Andrews Experimental Forest and Willamette National Forest study areas

Watershed Sciences, Inc. collected Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data from HJ Andrews and the Willamette National Forest (WNF) on August 10-11, 2008. Total area of the study are is 17,705 acres. The total area of delivered LiDAR including 100 m buffer is 19,493 acres. This data set includes the base products delivered by Watershed Sciences, and derived products (hill shades, slope and aspect grids, and contours). The base products include the point cloud data (LAS format), and the derived bare-earth and highest-hits digital elevation models (DEM). The DEMs are at 1 meter cell size resolution. The bare-earth DEM is a representation of the topography of the area, with all the vegetation removed. The highest-hit DEM is a representation of the first object the LiDAR system struck during data capture. This includes the bare-earth topography with vegetation and structures. The vegetation DEM is the result of subtracting the bare-earth DEM from the highest-hit DEM. The elevations are the heights of the vegetation. The final products are in ESRI GRID digital format, with a 1 meter cell size resolution. Each cell in the GRID has a value that represents the modeled elevation (either total elevation or vegetation height) at that location. The resulting DEM's were used to create slope, aspect, hill shade, and contour data for the area.

Soil temperature data from the 1989 LTER Moist Acidic Tussock (MAT89) Experimental plots. The logging station was installed in 1990 in block 2 of a four block experimental block design. The plots are located on a hillside near Toolik Lake (68 38' N, 149 36'W). Two replicates depth profiles (10, 20 ,40 centimeters) were installed in each block 2 experimental plots. Frost heaving has caused uncertain depths of measurements for many of the profiles. This data set contains only the control profiles from 2008 to 2020.
