Processed proteomic and phosphoproteomic timeseries from Ostreococcus tauri, with Gene Ontology enrichment, from "A phospho-dawn of protein modification anticipates light onset in the picoeukaryote O. tauri"

<p>Diel regulation of protein levels and protein modification had been less studied than transcript rhythms. These data tables in .XLSX format report partial proteome (Table_S1)&nbsp;and phosphoproteome data (Table_S2), assayed using shotgun mass-spectrometry, from cultures of the alga <em>Ostreococcus tauri&nbsp;</em>under light-dark cycles, sampled at Zeitgeber times (ZT, hours) 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20.&nbsp;10% of quantified proteins but two-thirds of phosphoproteins were rhythmic. Gene Ontology enrichment analysis was applied to infer the functional enrichment of the proteins or phosphoproteins, grouped by their loadings in PCA analysis (Table_S3), by hierarchical clustering (Table_S4) or&nbsp;by the peak time of their rhythmic profile (Table_S5).Prompted by night-peaking and apparently dark-stable proteins, we also tested the proteome of cultures transferred to prolonged darkness for 24, 48, 72 or 96h (Table_S6), where the proteome changed less than under the diel cycle. The raw data are available from ProteomeXchange, with identifiers PXD001734, PXD001735 and PXD002909.</p>

Dataset: Correlative Light, Electron Microscopy and Raman Spectroscopy Workflow to Detect and Observe Microplastic Interactions with Whole Jellyfish

<p>ABSTRACT</p> <p>Many researchers have turned their attention to understanding microplastic interaction with marine fauna. Efforts are being made to monitor exposure pathways and concentrations, and to assess the impact such interactions may have. To answer these questions, it is important to select appropriate experimental parameters and analytical protocols. This study focuses on medusae of <em>Cassiopea andromeda</em> jellyfish: a unique benthic jellyfish known to favor (sub-)tropical coastal regions which are potentially exposed to plastic waste from land-based sources. Juvenile medusae were exposed to fluorescent poly(ethylene terephthalate) and polypropylene microplastics (&lt; 300 &micro;m), resin embedded, and sectioned before analysis with confocal laser scanning microscopy as well as transmission electron microscopy and Raman Spectroscopy. Results show the fluorescent microplastics were stable enough to be detected with the optimized analytical protocol presented, and that their observed interaction with medusae occurs in a manner which is likely driven by the microplastic properties (<em>e.g.</em> density, hydrophobicity).</p>

Naphthalimide-Annulated [n]Helicenes: Red Circularly Polarized Light Emitters

<p>Original data to report (Abstract):<br> Two [<em>n</em>]heliceno-bis(naphthalimides)&nbsp;<strong>1</strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>2</strong>&nbsp;(<em>n</em>&nbsp;= 5 and 6, respectively) where two electron-accepting naphthalimide moieties are attached at both ends of helicene core were synthesized by effective two-step strategy, and their enantiomers could be resolved by chiral stationary-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of enantiopure fractions of&nbsp;<strong>1</strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>2</strong>&nbsp;confirmed their helical structure, and together with experimental and calculated circular dichroism (CD) spectra, the absolute configuration was unambiguously assigned. Both&nbsp;<strong>1</strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>2</strong>&nbsp;exhibit high molar extinction coefficients for the S<sub>0</sub>&ndash;S<sub>1</sub>&nbsp;transition and high fluorescence quantum yields (73% for&nbsp;<strong>1</strong>&nbsp;and 69% for&nbsp;<strong>2</strong>), both being outstanding for helicene derivatives. The red circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) emission up to 615 nm for&nbsp;<strong>2</strong>&nbsp;with CPL brightness (<em>B</em><sub>CPL</sub>) up to 66.5 M<sup>&ndash;1</sup>&nbsp;cm<sup>&ndash;1</sup>&nbsp;demonstrates its potential for applications in chiral optoelectronics. Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations unambiguously showed that the large transition magnetic dipole moment |<em>m</em>| of&nbsp;<strong>2</strong>&nbsp;is responsible for its high absorbance dissymmetry (<em>g</em><sub>abs</sub>) and luminescence dissymmetry (<em>g</em><sub>lum</sub>) factor.</p>

Dataset: Green light during incubation: effects on hatching characteristics in brown and white laying hens

<p>Dataset used for the paper &quot;Green light during incubation: effects on hatching characteristics in brown and white laying hens&quot;.<br> <br> Abstract:</p> <p>Providing light during incubation is being investigated as a method to improve welfare in later life in poultry. This incubation method would more closely approximate chicken natural environment compared to the current incubation in darkness. Previous studies showed promising results of light during incubation on broiler welfare, but little is known about effects of light during incubation on laying hens. Especially, information about its effects on hatching characteristics (hatch time, hatchability, chick quality, body weight and embryonic age of death) is scarce and requires investigation in both white and brown egg layers. In the current study, Dekalb White (DW) and ISA Brown (ISA) eggs were incubated in complete darkness (dark) or in a light:dark cycle of 12L:12D throughout incubation (light), resulting in four treatment groups: DW-dark, DW-light, ISA-dark, and ISA-light. In the light treatments, green LEDs of 520nm wavelength were used, at an intensity of 400 lux. First, light transmission through the eggshell was measured through 27 eggs. Then, an analysis of the effects of light during incubation on hatching characteristics was performed on 711 chicks in two consecutive experimental rounds. Light transmission was higher through white eggshells than through brown eggshells (N = 27, p &lt; 0.001). Light during incubation had no effects on hatching characteristics (N = 711, p &ge; 0.1). Despite the difference of light transmission through eggshell between hybrids, there was no interaction between incubation treatment and hybrid on hatching characteristics (N = 471, p &ge; 0.06). Hatch time was longer and navel quality was better in DW than in ISA, while body weight and embryonic age of death were lower in DW than in ISA (all p &lt; 0.001). Males and females had similar chick quality scores except for the beak quality, which was better for males (N = 486, p = 0.003). To conclude, green light during incubation did not negatively affect hatching characteristics in either DW nor ISA laying hen hybrids. Future research should therefore focus on its potential benefits for laying hen welfare.</p>

X-ray and optical light curves of the M dwarf dipper star TIC 234284556

<p>We observed the star TIC 234284556 with XMM-Newton in soft X-rays and in the optical for ca. 35 hours (127.8 ks), starting 2022-04-16 22:58:46, ObsID 0881050101.</p> <p>We provide here two extracted soft X-ray light curves (energy band 0.2-2 keV) collected with XMM-Newton&#39;s PN camera, namely for a circular extraction region with 20 arcsec radius centered on the position of the M dwarf star TIC 234284556 (pn_lca_02_2.fits) with 100 seconds time binning, and a background light curve with the same energy range and time binning extracted for a PN background region with a three times larger radius (pn_lcabg_02_2.fits). We also provide optical light curves in the V band, collected with XMM-Newton&#39;s Optical Monitor with 10 seconds cadence (file names P0881050101OMS0**TIMESR0000.FIT).</p> <p>A barycentric correction, using the XMM-SAS task &quot;barycen&quot;, has been applied to the PN and OM time columns. The time coordinate is given in seconds since BJD 2450814.5 (1998-01-01 00:00:00).</p>

High-frequency light attenuation measurements in 35 lakes: companion data from "Coefficients in Taylor’s Law increase with the time scale of water clarity measurements in a global suite of lakes"

Identifying the scaling rules describing ecological patterns across time and space is a central challenge in ecology. Taylor’s Law of fluctuation scaling, which states that the variance of a population is proportional to a positive power of the mean, has been widely observed in population dynamics and characterizes variability in multiple scientific domains. However, it is unclear if this phenomenon accurately describes ecological patterns across many orders of magnitude in time, and therefore links otherwise disparate observations. This dataset uses light attenuation observations from 10,531 days of high-frequency measurements in 35 globally distributed lakes to test this unknown. We focus on water clarity as an integrative ecological characteristic that responds to both biotic and abiotic drivers. We provide documentation that variations in ecological measurements across diverse sites and temporal scales exhibit variance patterns consistent with Taylor’s Law, and that model coefficients increase in a predictable yet non-linear manner with decreasing observation frequency.

Effects of experimental manipulation of light and nutrients on establishment of seedlings of native and invasive woody species in Long Island, NY, USA forests 2000 - 2003

While several studies on the process of invasion often focused on single factors or on the general explanation of ‘disturbance,' recent work has attempted to move towards a more mechanistic understanding of the factors that promote plant community invasion. Manipulative experiments provide a means for discerning causal relationships and interactive effects of environmental factors in promoting invasion. This dataset contains the results of multifactor manipulative experiments in forest communities, which compared factors influencing early seedling establishment for native and invasive woody plants. In an earlier study, we found that in Long Island, NY, invasion patterns are correlated with forest community type (pine barrens or hardwood), light availability, and soil N and Ca. Therefore, we conducted manipulative field experiments in two different years to determine the relative importance and interaction of experimental gaps and N and Ca addition in pine barrens and hardwood forests in promoting invasion. We used seedlings of seven common native and invasive species in the first experiment, and 16 native and invasive species paired phylogenetically in the second experiment. This was done in the years 2000 and 2003 respectively.

This data set contains information on a spatial survey of dissolved organic matter (DOM) across lakes and wetlands in the Northeast and Midwest, USA and modeled long-term changes in light limitation and whole-lake productivity in a suite of lakes in the Adirondack State Park, New York, USA. Widespread long-term increases in DOM have been observed in many lakes in a process known as browning. This data set enables the assessment of potential changes in dissolved absorbance and dissolved organic nutrients associated with browning. This data set accompanies a manuscript in review at Limnology and Oceanography: Letters.
