PARAGON 1 - KM2112 - Total Organic Carbon In Situ Measurements
<p>This dataset contains measurements of total organic carbon concentrations (TOC) collected during the PARAGON 1 expedition (KM2112) in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. Measurements come from daily collections of whole seawater at 150 m using trace metal clean techniques. Samples for measurements of TOC concentrations were collected by aliquoting 40 mL of whole seawater into pre-combusted borosilicate vials. Samples were acidified with 27 µL of 12N HCl (Optima grade, Fisher), capped with Teflon-lined silicone septa lids, and stored in the dark at room temperature until analysis on shore. Total organic carbon concentrations were determined by high temperature combustion on a modified Shimadzu TOC analyzer according to Carlson et al. (2010). Timestamp is in UTC.</p>
PARAGON 1 - KM2112 - Leucine Incorporation In Situ Measurements
<p>This dataset contains measurements of in situ rates of leucine incorporation as a measure of bacterial production collected during the PARAGON 1 expedition (KM2112) in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. Measurements come from daily collections of whole seawater at 150 m using trace metal clean techniques. Rates of leucine incorporation were measured by subsampling 1.5 mL aliquots of whole seawater into 2 mL microcentrifuge tubes (Axygen) and spiking with a final concentration of 20 nmol L⁻¹ leucine with a ³H specific activity of 53.3 Ci mmol⁻¹ of leucine (Perkin Elmer). A killed blank measurement was made by spiking an additional 1.5 mL aliquot with 100 µL of 100% (w/v) ice-cold trichloroacetic acid (TCA) prior to spiking with ³H-leucine. All aliquots were then incubated in the dark at in situ temperature for 4-6 hours after which live incubations were terminated with the addition of 100 µL of 100% (w/v) ice-cold TCA. Samples were processed at sea using the centrifugation method of Smith and Azam (1992), and radioactivity incorporated into bacterial protein was measured on a TriCarb 4910TR scintillation counter using Ultima Gold LLT scintillation cocktail (Perkin Elmer). Values reported are the blank-corrected averages of triplicate measurements from each sample. Timestamp is in UTC.</p>

Digital image correlation measurement of linear elastic steel specimen
<p>The dataset comprises the axial and lateral displacements on the surface of a plate with a hole subjected to tensile load. The displacement data are measured by digital image correlation and the material is assumed to behave linear elastic. The material under investigation is a common low-carbon steel alloy of type S235. The displacement data are used for calibration of a linear elastic constitutive model using parametric physics-informed neural networks and finite elements. For that purpose, the dataset comprises both the raw experimental displacement data and displacement data interpolated onto a regular grid using linear interpolation, where the interpolation routine is provided as well.</p>
Ice sheet surface elevation change from ablation stake measurements on bare ice in the western Greenland ablation zone during July 2016
<p>Measurements of ice surface elevation change from a network of twelve bamboo ablation stakes installed in the western Greenland ice sheet ablation zone (67.0496o N, 49.0201o W, 1215 m a.s.l.). Stakes were installed by drilling 3 m deep holes into the ice, inserting the bamboo stakes, and allowing them to freeze into the ice for 24 hours. Following the 24 hour freeze-in period, measurements of the distance from the top of the stake to its base were recorded at nominal 3 hour intervals continuously from 12:00 local time (UTC-2) on 6 July 2016 to 23:00 local time on 12 July 2016. Prior to each measurement, a 24×24 cm square wooden ablation board was placed at the base of the stake and oriented to true north. This board operated as a datum from which the stake height above the ice surface was measured.</p>
Seawater stable isotope sample measurements from the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE)
<p><strong>Dataset abstract</strong></p> <p>This data set contains oxygen and hydrogen isotope measurements from discrete seawater samples that were collected in the Southern Ocean (south of 30 deg S) during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE). 637 samples were collected during the period December 24th, 2016 and March 18th, 2017 in the Southern Ocean from the surface ocean using the ship's underway line (UW; 338 samples) and in vertical profiles using Niskin bottles mounted on the CTD rosette (287 samples). A few additional samples were collected from a parallel cast with a trace-metal rosette, with a bucket, and from the surface of a tabular iceberg. All samples were analyzed for their oxygen isotopic composition (reported as permille deviation of the oxygen-18 to oxygen-16 ratio from VSMOW2: DEL18O) and a few samples (80) from the Pacific sector were analyzed for their hydrogen isotopic composition (reported as permille deviation of the hydrogen to deuterium ratio from VSMOW2: DELD) by mass spectrometry at the British Geological Survey. Equivalent black carbon aerosol measured over the Southern Ocean in the austral summer of 2016/2017, during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition.
<p><strong>Dataset abstract</strong></p> <p>The authors would highly appreciate to be contacted if the data is used for any purpose.</p> <p>We measured equivalent black carbon (eBC) with an aethalometer (model AE33, Magee Scientific) at a time resolution of one second during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE). We report five-minute averaged data, cleaned from exhaust gas influence. Temporal coverage is from December 20, 2016 to April 10, 2017.</p> <p>The mass concentration of eBC, reported in ng m<sup>-3</sup>, reflects how far fossil fuel combustion or biomass burning contribute to the aerosol population over the Southern Ocean and between South Africa and Europe. Over the Southern Ocean there are no sources of eBC, except for ship emissions and (sub-)Antarctic station emissions, and hence an enhancement of eBC points towards long-range influence from Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South America. When plotted against latitude, eBC concentrations drop south of 60°S, indicating a more pristine environment. We report five-minute averaged data cleaned from exhaust gas influence. The lower cut-off of the CPC is 7 nm. Temporal coverage of the dataset is from December 20, 2016 to April 10, 2017.</p> <p>The total particle number concentration reflects aerosol particles from a variety of sources and processes. The concentrations include for example sea spray aerosol, long-range transported particles, newly formed particles and others. PsPM-DoxMem1: SCR, ECG and respiration measurements in an RCT using doxycycline/placebo during delay fear conditioning and retention.
<p>This dataset includes skin conductance response (SCR), electrocardiogram (ECG), respiration and electromyogramm (EMG, only relevant for retention phase) measurements. Also included are CS and US information, keypress responses and keypress response times for 78 healthy participants (40 males and 38 females aged 23.3+/-3.6 years) under either doxycycline or placebo during a classical (Pavlovian) discriminant delay fear conditioning task. CS were a red and a blue screen. US consisted of 0.5 s square electric pulses with participant-specific duration and 500 Hz frequency. SOA between the CS onset and US was 3.5 s. CS and US co-terminated. Before the fear conditioning task, participants completed an N-back task and several questionnaires. During the retention/extinction phase one week after learning and without drug, an auditory startle probe (ST) and no US was delivered 3.5 s after CS onset via headphones (100 dB, 50 ms duration with 2ms on- and offset ramp). In an immediately following re-learning phase, the ST was omitted and the CS reinforced with the same schedule as during acquisition. The ITI was randomly determined on each trial to be 7, 9, or 11 s.</p>
PsPM-trSP1: SCR, and heart beat measurement in response to aversive/neutral IAPS pictures while subjected to auditory distractors
<p>This dataset includes skin conductance response (SCR) and pulse time stamp (HB) measurements for each of 60 healthy unmedicated participants (30 males and 30 females aged 23.7 +/- 4.8 years) in response to the 45 most arousing negative, and 45 least arousing neutral IAPS pictures, each presented for 1 s each, while listening to regular or random distractor sounds, as described in Bach et al. (2015). ITI was selected randomly on each trial from 7.65 s, 9 s, or 10.35 s. The experiment was preceded by a 2-minute resting period and divided into 3 blocks, separated by resting periods. Each resting period begins and ends with an event marker in the psychophysiological recordings.</p>
