Improving Community Functioning in Women With Psychiatric Disorders: (333062004-006)
In the post-deinstitutionalization era, everyday community functioning is an important aspect of assessment and treatment of individuals with serious mental illness. The current study focuses on correlates of community functioning among 332 low-income mothers with serious mental illness. Results revealed significant relationships between everyday functioning and a number of demographic, psychiatric, contextual, and mental health treatment variables. Current psychiatric symptoms accounted for the greatest amount of variance and completely mediated the effects of diagnosis and substance abuse history on community functioning; yet contextual variables such as financial worries and social support were also significant predictors, even after controlling for symptoms and other clinical characteristics. Additionally, use of mental health services was a significant moderator of the effect of social stress on community functioning. Implications of results for future research and practice are discussed.

<p>Introduction</p> <p>This database includes the raw data linked with the paper “ Look at my body: it tells of suffering. Comprehending psychiatric pathology in patients who suffer from headaches, restrictive eating disorders (REDs), or nonsuicidal self-injuries (NSSIs)” in submission.</p> <p>In this paper, we reported sociodemographic characteristics, psychopathological assessment, R-PAS performances and level of functioning. We aimed to describe three groups of patients using several instruments and characterize the core of their diseases, highlighting similarities and differences. The three groups of adolescent patients are patients who suffer from headaches, restrictive eating disorders (REDs), or nonsuicidal self-injuries (NSSIs).</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Sixty adolescents were recruited and divided into three groups: 20 patients suffering from headaches, 20 presenting REDs, and 20 showing NSSI behaviors. We collected data from the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (K-SADS-PL-DSM-5), the SCID-5-Personality Disorders, the Social and Occupational Functioning Assessment Scale (SOFAS), the Children Global Assessment Scale (CGAS), the Clinical Global Impression – Severity (CGI-S), the WISC-IV or WAIS-IV, and the Rorschach test according to the R-PAS method.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Data show that the NSSI group had more depression, social anxiety, and borderline personality traits than the headache group. The NSSI group showed worse functioning and higher severity of the symptoms than the other groups and lower performance on the working memory task than the headache group. R-PAS revealed that the headache group had significantly higher PHR/GPHR index standard scores than others. REDs had lower W% scores than headaches and lower Dd% scores than the other groups. The RED group also had significantly lower scores on the CBlend index and higher on the C’ index than the NSSI one. The RED group had significantly higher scores on the NPH/SumH index than the NSSI group. The NSSI group had significantly higher scores on the PER index than the others.</p>
