Impaired intracellular Ca2+ signaling contributes to age-related cerebral small vessel disease in Col4a1 mutant mice
<p>Humans and mice with mutations in <em>COL4A1</em> and <em>COL4A2</em> manifest hallmarks of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD). Mice with a missense mutation in <em>Col4a1</em> at amino acid 1344 (<em>Col4a1<sup>+/G1344D</sup></em>) exhibit age-dependent intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and brain lesions. Here we report that this pathology was associated with the loss of myogenic vasoconstriction, an intrinsic vascular response essential for the autoregulation of cerebral blood flow. Electrophysiological analyses showed that the loss of myogenic constriction resulted from blunted pressure-induced smooth muscle cell (SMC) membrane depolarization. Further, we found that dysregulation of membrane potential was associated with impaired Ca<sup>2+</sup>-dependent activation of large-conductance Ca<sup>2+</sup>-activated K<sup>+</sup> (BK) and transient receptor potential melastatin 4 (TRPM4) cation channels linked to disruptions in sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca<sup>2+</sup> signaling. Treating <em>Col4a1<sup>+/G1344D</sup></em> mice with 4-phenylbutyrate, a compound that promotes the trafficking of misfolded proteins and alleviates SR stress, restored SR Ca<sup>2+</sup> signaling and BK and TRPM4 channel activity, prevented loss of myogenic tone, and reduced ICH. We conclude that alterations in SR Ca<sup>2+</sup> handling that impair membrane potential regulating ion channel activity result in dysregulation of SMC membrane potential and loss of myogenic tone contributing to age-related cSVD in <em>Col4a1<sup>+/G1344D</sup></em> mice.</p>
Data from: Recreational vessel networks reveal potential hot spots for marine pest introduction and spread
<p>Recreational vessels are an important pathway for spreading marine non-indigenous species (NIS) around coastal environments globally. However, most vessels are not tracked, limiting our ability to map their movements and identify locations at greater risk of NIS introductions. Using New Zealand as a case study, we quantified spread and risk patterns of recreational vessel movements, using a web-based survey allowing the more than 1,800 respondents to map significant trips with over 12,000 visits. These vessel routes were used to build a network model representing nationwide recreational vessel movements. Two proxies were used to quantify the risk of introduction of marine NIS: (i) incoming hull length and (ii) cumulative residency periods at sites. There was significant variation in the distances travelled, the destinations they visited, and the duration of their stays. New Zealand's recreational boating network contained 317 destinations with over 4,000 unique connections, concentrated within two distinct areas of the country. Network-based metrics and risk proxies quantified the relative importance of domestic locations as incursion or spreading hubs for NIS. This approach highlighted several areas that pose high relative biosecurity risk within the national network, but are underrepresented within current surveillance programmes. Synthesis and applications. Our study demonstrates how the movement dynamics of recreational vessels can be quantified at a regional scale to inform proactive management. The identification of spreading hubs and locations at particular risk of NIS introductions, enables managers to design risk-based and effective surveillance and monitoring programmes. Our network-based approach to determine the biosecurity implications posed by recreational vessels is transferable to other parts of the world. It enables managers to understand the distribution of risk within an area of interest (e.g., a jurisdiction) and develop optimised approaches for mitigating impact.</p>
VENµS raw images for vessel detection
<p>The dataset utilized in this study comprises images capturing maritime vessels. It is a meticulously curated collection designed explicitly for training and assessing models focused on vessel detection and identification.</p> <p>The images within the dataset are sourced from satellite sensors, specifically the VENμS satellite imagery. VENμS offers multispectral data from visible to near-infrared bands, boasting high spatial resolution (5.3 meters at Nadir) for detailed vessel analysis. The dataset encompasses images taken on 12 spectral bands, facilitating the examination of the vessel detection model's performance under diverse spectral conditions. These images depict the port of Ashdod, one of Israel's primary cargo ports, from the beginning of 2018 to the conclusion of October 2020, totalling 284 multispectral images.</p> <p>For each multispectral image, three types of data are provided: raw data (non-coregistered multispectral image), coregistered images, and coregistered images with a mask (pixels set to zero) on the harbour to eliminate anchored vessels from the image. Coregistration involves each band's shift (X and Y) to the fifth band.</p> <p>Most vessels in the dataset are annotated with boundary boxes (upper-left position, height, and width) along with AIS data, including vessel type, length, width, and status. These annotations serve as ground truth labels for training and evaluating models focused on vessel detection and classification.</p> <p>Furthermore, the dataset incorporates samples showcasing variations in environmental conditions, such as diverse sea states, lighting conditions, wake complexities, and the presence of clouds. The replica vessel was crafted by woodworker Mark Griffiths in 2015 using appropriate replica tools (and contemporary equivalents for comparison). The process of re-creation was documented by a Cork-based archaeologist and photographer Brian Mac Domhnaill. Deinos Vessel All Quad Mesh 2144 Verts

The mesh is now made up of all quads and I reduced the polygon count from 137,875 Verts to 2144 Verts.  Once I retopo'd the models, I baked the color and normal data with cycles. Hanging-vessel
This so-called [hanging-vessel](https://bit.ly/3dNlzjz) of [bronze](https://bit.ly/3lYUMWc) was found at the east coast of southern Sweden. It was discovered by a hunter in 1870 in [Bjurvik](https://bit.ly/3pSQ9hj), Hjorted parish in Småland (SHM 4323). The area is rich in remains from the [Bronze Age](https://bit.ly/3s0KR64) . The hanging-vessel was found together with a large [neck-ring](https://bit.ly/3yim7rj) with elaborate decoration in the same style. Hanging-vessels were probably used as a type of dress-ornament or accessory to the female dress. No hanging-vessel has been found in situ in a grave in Sweden yet but hanging-vessels seen on bronze-figurines indicate that they were worn at the back in a belt. This vessel is dated to the end of the Bronze Age, circa 700-500 BC (period VI). It was made by [lost-wax casting](https://bit.ly/31VERRp) (cire-perdue) in Southern Scandinavia or Northern Germany.
