Supplementary Material for The Impact of COVID-19 on Open Source Development Activities: A Multi-Method Study
<p><strong>Context:</strong> The social isolation measures resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak changed work practices in various sectors, especially with the shift to working from home. However, it is still unclear the implications of the pandemic on the maintenance and evolution of open-source software (OSS). Objective: In this study, we analyze the effects of COVID-19 on the development activity of OSS and how social isolation changed the productivity and emotional state of OSS contributors. <strong>Method:</strong><br>To investigate this issue, we have conducted a multi-method study. We first quantitatively investigated how the COVID-19 outbreak impacted the development activity of open-source projects by mining the development history of 155 open-source projects. We then qualitatively investigated the perceptions of open-source core developers about the impact of COVID-19 on their activities, using a survey as an instrument. <strong>Results:</strong> Our results indicate that the pandemic led to some effect on the development<br>activity of OSS repositories, especially in the early days of the outbreak. For instance although we observe an increase in the number of pull requests accepted, our results also indicate a sudden increase in the turnover rate of core developers. However, a few months after the declaration of the current pandemic, our results suggest stabilization in these metrics. Other effects were more far-reaching, such as a decrease in newcomers throughout the observed period after the pandemic was declared. Some findings are supported by the results of our qualitative study, whose results indicate that most of the respondents of our survey consider that COVID-19 did not change their productivity substantially. <strong>Conclusions:</strong> Our findings can help practitioners and researchers to better understand the effect of COVID-19 on the software engineering field.</p>

<p>COVID-19 pandemic has stirred every single individual around, bringing the <br>entire society to a pause in all features. It is affecting businesses, institutions, and health <br>amenities. Even marketing has not been forborne by this pandemic. This situation will have a <br>long-term influence on man-kind, though we could go back to our normal life in a few <br>months. On the other hand, due to the policy of Digital India, every part of the nation is now <br>connected with the internet, having digital gadgets to obtain online information.<br>During this pandemic situation, it is observed that people are spending more and more time <br>online. In fact, according to Forbes, during this pandemic situation internet has surged by 50-<br>70% in the world. Therefore, firms need to precisely determine their online marketing policy <br>and find unique & fine-tuned ways to communicate not only during the time but should also <br>have the long term approach. <br>The present research article critically examines and highlights the opportunities and <br>challenges of Online Marketing in and after the COVID-19 situation, as per the perception of <br>both buyers and suppliers in Jalgaon City. The researcher gathered the polls to manifest the <br>situation of Online Marketing in two parts, the general respondent consisting of the <br>consumers and specialist respondents such as the marketing personnel. A survey of 167 <br>buyers (Consumer) and 37 suppliers (marketing personnel) were conducted using the <br>convenience sampling method.</p>
Alarm management in provisional COVID-19 intensive care units: a retrospective analysis and recommendations for future pandemics
<p>The clinical audit logs were manually collected from the patient monitoring system of four intensive care units (ICU) from a large German hospital via USB stick from the central patient monitoring device. The data consists of the time, bed number, alarm type (i.e., parameter, device, alarm criticality) and alarm handling (e.g., threshold adjustments, use of the pause function). No actual patient identifying data elements were collected. For further deidentification, dates were shifted into the future by a pseudo-random offset for all patients; the bed number was replaced by a pseudonym. Day and night rhythm, weekends, the season and the bed characteristic (double room, single room) were not affected by this process.</p> <p> </p>
Data of top 50 most cited articles about COVID-19 and the complications of COVID-19
<p><strong>Background</strong></p> <p>This bibliometric analysis examines the top 50 most-cited articles on COVID-19 complications, offering insights into the multifaceted impact of the virus. Since its emergence in Wuhan in December 2019, COVID-19 has evolved into a global health crisis, with over 770 million confirmed cases and 6.9 million deaths as of September 2023. Initially recognized as a respiratory illness causing pneumonia and ARDS, its diverse complications extend to cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, renal, hematological, neurological, endocrinological, ophthalmological, hepatobiliary, and dermatological systems.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong></p> <p>Identifying the top 50 articles from a pool of 5940 in Scopus, the analysis spans November 2019 to July 2021, employing terms related to COVID-19 and complications. Rigorous review criteria excluded non-relevant studies, basic science research, and animal models. The authors independently reviewed articles, considering factors like title, citations, publication year, journal, impact factor, authors, study details, and patient demographics.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong></p> <p>The focus is primarily on 2020 publications (96%), with all articles being open-access. Leading journals include The Lancet, NEJM, and JAMA, with prominent contributions from Internal Medicine (46.9%) and Pulmonary Medicine (14.5%). China played a major role (34.9%), followed by France and Belgium. Clinical features were the primary study topic (68%), often utilizing retrospective designs (24%). Among 22,477 patients analyzed, 54.8% were male, with the most common age group being 26–65 years (63.2%). Complications affected 13.9% of patients, with a recovery rate of 57.8%.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p> <p>Analyzing these top-cited articles offers clinicians and researchers a comprehensive, timely understanding of influential COVID-19 literature. This approach uncovers attributes contributing to high citations and provides authors with valuable insights for crafting impactful research. As a strategic tool, this analysis facilitates staying updated and making meaningful contributions to the dynamic field of COVID-19 research.</p>

The community acceptance of COVID-19 booster vaccination in Indonesia
<p>This research aimed to determine the factors influencing the community acceptance of booster vaccination with a focus on sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge, media exposure, and attitude. The research was conducted online through a digital questionnaire using the Google Forms platform distributed by social media. The population for this research comprised eligible individuals in Indonesia qualified to receive vaccine booster. The minimum required sample size was 425. The questionnaire was developed based on references from previous research and tailored to the specific needs.</p>

Disease trajectories in hospitalized COVID-19 patients are predicted by clinical and peripheral blood signatures representing distinct lung pathologies
<p><span>COVID-19 is characterized by a broad range of symptoms and disease trajectories. Understanding the correlation between clinical biomarkers and lung pathology over the course of acute COVID-19 is necessary to understand its diverse pathogenesis and inform more precise and effective treatments. Here, we present an integrated analysis of longitudinal clinical parameters, peripheral blood biomarkers, and lung pathology in COVID-19 patients from the Brazilian Amazon. We identified core clinical and peripheral blood signatures differentiating disease progression between recovered patients from severe disease and fatal cases. Signatures were heterogenous among fatal cases yet clustered into two patient groups: “early death” (< 15 days of disease until death) and “late death” (> 15 days). Progression to early death was characterized systemically and in lung histopathology by rapid, intense endothelial and myeloid activation/chemoattraction and presence of thrombi, associated with SARS-CoV-2<sup>+</sup> macrophages. In contrast, progression to late death was associated with fibrosis, apoptosis and abundant SARS-CoV-2<sup>+</sup> epithelial cells in post-mortem lung, with cytotoxicity, interferon and Th17 signatures only detectable in the peripheral blood 2 weeks into hospitalization. Progression to recovery was associated with higher lymphocyte counts, Th2 and anti-inflammatory-mediated responses. By integrating ante-mortem longitudinal systemic and spatial single-cell lung signatures, we defined an enhanced set of prognostic clinical parameters predicting disease outcome for guiding more precise and optimal treatments.</span><span> Finally, this study represents a major advance in the investigation of acute respiratory infections by integrating serial clinical data and peripheral blood samples with histopathological and </span><span>spatially-resolved single-cell </span><span>analyses of post-mortem lung samples.</span></p>

Best Practices and Strategies of Teachers in Virtual Learning Instructions Amidst Covid-19 Pandemic
<p><span>This study investigates the demographic profiles, educational backgrounds, and professional development of teachers, alongside their adoption of various teaching strategies in a virtual instructional context. Through analysis of multiple datasets concerning teachers’ age, gender, educational attainment, field of specialization, and the seminars and training they attended, the study evaluates the prevalence of specific teaching practices and their effectiveness. Additionally, using Chi-square tests, the study examines the potential relationships between teacher profiles and the extent of their practice implementations. Findings reveal a workforce characterized by a high level of experience and academic achievement, with a significant gender disparity. Crucially, no significant statistical correlations were found between teacher demographics or professional backgrounds and the teaching practices employed, suggesting a standardized adoption of educational strategies across various teacher profiles. The results emphasize the role of professional development in maintaining teaching efficacy in diverse educational settings, particularly in adapting to virtual platforms.</span></p>
