Perceived academic stress, hair and saliva cortisol concentrations, and their relationship with anthropometric measures associated with obesity in first-year medical students.
<p>Cortisol plays an important role between stress, weight gain, and the development of obesity. Therefore, we investigated the association between stress, eating behavior, cortisol, and anthropometric measures related to obesity in a sample of medical students. We determined cortisol concentrations by ELISA and related it to self-reported stress, eating behavior, and anthropometric measurements throughout the academic period. We report an increase in hair cortisol, higher self-reported stress scores, and BMI mainly in females. Finally, we found evidence of positive associations between capillary cortisol and BMI. Also, eating behavior is affected by perceived stress mainly in females.</p> <p>In this database, we provide weight variables, BMI, psychometric tests, and hormonal determinations.</p> <p><br> You can see two sheets in the Excel file. Sheet 1 includes the raw data and sheet 2 includes a description of each variable, as well as the bibliography (article or book) where each survey or protocol was obtained.</p> <p><br> In addition, the data specify the units of the hormonal variables, as well as the units of the anthropometric variables. If you have questions about the interpretation of psychometric test scores, you can contact our team for further details.</p> <p> </p>

Validation of Spectral Light Simulation Tools: Dataset of Simulated and Measured Indoor Light Exposure
<p>Since the discovery of a new photoreceptor in our eye, and with the growing awareness about the related ipRGC-influenced light (IIL) responses, design applications related to these responses are flourishing. Optimizing our ocular light exposure in buildings can have beneficial effects on our health, well-being, and performance through the action of this photoreceptor. To compare different design options and optimize the lighting conditions for building occupants, lighting simulations are typically used. However, as our IIL responses depend on various aspects of the light exposure including its spectral characteristics, spectral simulations are required. The dataset shared here was originally collected to validate two spectral simulation tools, <em>ALFA</em> and <em>Lark</em>, for the study of building design in relation to occupants’ IIL responses. The validation was done by comparing the simulation outputs against actual measurements, and assessing how reliable these tools were in predicting spectral irradiance under different indoor light conditions. Data were collected in two different experimental setups, one under daylight conditions only and the other one under electric light conditions only. The experimental protocol and README files contain detailed information on how the data was collected and what data was collected.</p>
Stress, Strain, and Temperature measurement data for AISI 301 and AISI 316 stainless steels from tension tests with a sudden increase of strain rate
<p>This publication comprise data obtained during a tension test where the strain rate was suddenly changed from 10-4 s-1 to 1.3x103 s-1. The sudden increase in strain rate was carried out at different amounts of plastic strain. The tests were carried out with a modified tension Split-Hopkinson Pressure bar device. The force was measured from the stress bars using strain gages, whereas the strain was measured using high speed photography and digital image correlation. The temperature was measured using high speed infrared imaging. The data is part of the original publication in Journal of Dynamic Behavior of Materials. The original manuscript is available at https://doi.org/10.1007/s40870-022-00333-y</p> <p> </p>

Photon time-of-flight histograms measured with a photon-counting diffuse LiDAR on Crook Glacier and Collier Glacier, Oregon
<p>This data set contains photon time-of-flight histograms measured in September 2021 on Crook Glacier, Oregon, and two sites on Collier Glacier, Oregon (USA). Each data file is associated with a single measurement using a photon-counting diffuse LiDAR. The files contain a header with geo-location (WGS84) and instrument settings as well as the raw count numbers and integration time for each temporal bin. The given arrival times represent the center of each temporal bin. The color naming scheme of the file names represents the used laser wavelength (blue=405nm, green=520nm, red=640nm), the last number in each filename represents the distance between laser and detector (i.e. 1.8m at 520nm for file "green5_1.8.txt").</p> <p>The data is organized in folders for each site plus an additional folder containing Matlab-code needed for data evaluation. The code uses this folder structure for relative path referencing. Data is evaluated using ExampleDataEvalV2.m, which employs the other three files as helper functions. The helper function ReadTofHisto.m reads the raw data from the measurement files and provides a named structure with the header information.</p> <p>If you wish to use this data set please contact Markus Allgaier at markusa@uoregon.edu with a description of the work and any questions so that we may offer guidance in regards to the best usage of our dataset.
