Supporting Datasets for 'The longest documented distance traveled by a West Indian manatee'
<p>This dataset contains multiple sources of geospatial and environmental data used for the analysis of Tico's journey. This is a West-Indian manatee that was rescued, rehabilitated and tracked after release. Tico traveled approximately 4,017 km over 62 days through deep oceanic waters. Correlating Tico's trajectory and velocity with surface currents revealed the influence of the North Brazil Current (NBC) and its vortices on his trajectory. <p>The data files contain the GNSS RINEX observation files and the ASCII files of the EDM measurements for the different measurement campaigns used in the article "Development of a Submillimetric GNSS-Based Distance Meter for Length Metrology" by Luis García-Asenjo, Sergio Baselga, Chris Atkins and Pascual Garrigues, Sensors 2021, 21, 1145. https://doi.org/10.3390/s21041145. Civil war is associated with longer escape distances among Sri Lankan birds - flight-initiation distances of Sri Lankan birds
<p>War influences wildlife in a variety of ways but may influence their escape responses to approaching threats, including humans, because of its effect on human populations and behaviour, and landscape change. We collected 1,400 Flight-Initiation Distances (FIDs) from 157 bird species in the dry zone of Sri Lanka, where civil war raged for 26 years, ending in 2009. Accounting for factors known to influence FIDs (phylogeny, starting distance of approaches, body mass, prevailing human density, group size and location), we found birds have longer FIDs in the part of the dry zone which experienced civil war. Larger birds, often preferred by human hunters, showed greater increases in FID in the war zone, consistent with the idea that war was associated with greater hunting pressure, that larger birds experienced longer-lasting trauma, or had more plastic escape behaviour, than smaller species. While the mechanisms linking the war and avian escape responses remain ambiguous, wars evidently leave legacies which extend to behavioural responses in birds.</p>
Multi-Angle, Multi-Distance Microphone Impulse Response Dataset
<p>This archive contains data generated as part of the PhD research of Juan Carlos Franco, investigating the timbral attributes related to the incident-angle-dependent response of microphones. </p> <p>The dataset of microphone impulse responses (IRs) comprises 25 microphones, including a Class-1 measurement microphone, covering the polar pattern variations of 7 of the microphones. The measurements were performed following a quasi-anechoic method, at incident angles from 0° to 355° with an angular resolution of 5°, and at source-to-microphone distances of 0.5 m, 1.25 m and 5m. </p> <p>Both normalised (-1 dBFS peak) and raw versions of the IRs have been rendered at bit-depths of 24-bit and 32-bit, with a sample rate of 48 kHz. </p> <p>A detailed description of the measurement procedure, as well as the equipment used, is provided in the associated journal paper [Franco et al. 2021].</p> <p><strong>References</strong></p> <p>J Franco, B Bǎcilǎ, T Brookes, E De Sena, "A multi-angle, multi-distance dataset of microphone impulse responses", J.Aud.Eng.Soc., Volume 70, Issue 10 pp. 882-893, October 2022, doi 10.17743/jaes.2022.0027</p>
