500-yr Projections of Thwaites Glacier, Antarctica, with MALI, including glacial isostatic adjustment: no elastic displacement
<p>This archive contains a subset of results reproducing the material presented in the manuscript "Stabilizing effect of bedrock uplift on retreat of Thwaites Glacier, Antarctica, at centennial timescales" by Cameron Book, et al. This archive only includes results for the simulations with elastic displacement in the GIA model disabled. These results are briefly discussed in the first paragraph of section 'Factors controlling feedbacks between glacier retreat and bedrock uplift'. The main results from the manuscript are in a separate archive. <p>A unique bistable transition has been identified in granular/colloidal gel-composites, resulting from shear-induced phase separation of the gel phase into dense blobs. In energy applications, it is critical to understand how this transition influences electrical performance. Mixing conductive colloids with conductive inclusions, we find the conductivity and elasticity move in concert, both decreasing in the collapsed phase-separated state. Surprisingly, with insulating inclusions these properties can become decoupled, with the conductivity instead increasing despite the collapse of the gel structure.</p>

Analysing detection thresholds of lithological complexity and karst overprinting in outcrop-scale seismic models (Well data for elastic rock parameters - supplementary data)
<p>This dataset includes pre-loaded and integrated data sets of the well data from boreholes on Spitsbergen. it also includes various maps of Svalbard to see where the boreholes are located. Rock parameters were plotted and determined using the blueback toolbox add-on to Petrel. </p> <p>The dataset used for rock parameter statisitcs includes:</p> <ul> <li>A Petrel 2022 project with well data (gamma ray, density, sonic, P-velocity, lithology) from the two boreholes Reindalspasset I (7816/2-1) and Tromsøbreen II (7617/1-2).</li> <li>Excel sheets with the wireline-log data used from the two boreholes. </li> </ul> <p>This dataset is related to a manuscript currently in review for Marine and Petroleum Geology.</p>

Data from: Extremely fast feeding strikes are powered by elastic recoil in a seahorse relative, the snipefish, Macroramphosus scolopax
Among over 30,000 species of ray-finned fishes, seahorses and pipefishes have a unique feeding mechanism whereby the elastic recoil of tendons allows them to rotate their long snouts extremely rapidly in order to capture small elusive prey. To understand the evolutionary origins of this feeding mechanism, its phylogenetic distribution among closely related lineages must be assessed. We present evidence for elastic recoil powered feeding in the snipefish (Macroramphosus scolopax) from kinematics, dynamics, and morphology. High-speed videos of strikes show they achieve extremely fast head and hyoid rotational velocities, resulting in rapid prey capture in as short at 2 ms. The maximum instantaneous muscle-mass-specific power requirement for head rotation in snipefish was above the known vertebrate maximum, which is evidence that strikes are not the result of direct muscle power. Finally, we show that the over-center conformation of the four-bar linkage mechanism coupling head elevation to hyoid rotation in snipefish can function as a torque reversal latch, preventing the head from rotating and providing the opportunity for elastic energy storage. The presence of elastic recoil feeding in snipefish means that this high-performance mechanism is not restricted to the Syngnathidae (seahorses and pipefish) and may have evolved in parallel.
