The lion of Goddess Ishtar

The lion of Goddess Ishtar, Nye Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen, Denmark). Made with Memento Beta. 1-3 The lshtar Gate in Babylon Nebuchadnezar (604-562 BC), the King of Babylon, started a series of ambitious building projects including the richly decorated lshtar Gate. A long processional avenue linked the sacred gate to the temple of the city god Marduk and his famous temple tower, known from the Bible as the Tower of Babel. The facades of the lshtar Gate were decorated with reliefs in glazed tile, representing a dragon, Marduk's emblem, and a bull symbolising the weather god Adad. The processional route away from the city was decorated with lions, the animals of Ishtar, goddess of love and war, They were to guard against advancing enemies, as is indicated by the name ofthe gateway: Ishtar conquers its enemy. Chinese Lion, Shanhua District, Taiwan

A new temple was thrown up, so I have taken advantage! This is my first successful Chinese Lion, with small dragon stele to the side. There is no protective wiring over it yet and it's a excellent example of sculture at a Taoist temple. Photographed at Shanhua District, Tainan City, Taiwan. Processed by my lovely assistant 6180 miles away in the UK. Enjoy! Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Recumbent lion (colored reconstruction)

Recumbent lion (colored reconstruction), Nye Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen, Denmark). Made with Memento Beta (now Remake) from AutoDesk. Reconstruction colored from original (https://skfb.ly/VRqQ). The point of departure for the reconstruction is the discovery of traces of colour on the two original lion statues: red colour on the tongue and lips as well as microscopic traces of blue azurite on the mane and yellowish-brown ochre on the hide. The other colours must remain a hypothesis, but are to be found on other Archaic lions. The pigments used correspond to those on the original figures. The royal Lion Hunt of Ashurbanipal

The royal Lion Hunt of Ashurbanipal is depicted on a set of gypsum reliefs from the North Palace of Nineveh. They are widely regarded as "the supreme masterpieces of Assyrian art". They show a formalized ritual "hunt" by King Ashurbanipal (reigned 668 – c. 631/627 BC) in an arena, where captured Asian lions were released from cages for the king to slaughter with arrows, spears, or his sword. They were made about 645–635 BC, and originally formed different sequences placed around the palace. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

A lion-like stone bench

This bench is located in my home town, Shaoyang city, Hunan province, China. I can't say if the animal element in this bench is the lion, because in China tranditions, there is a mythical creatrure named Qilin(麒麟) which resembles lions. And according to most Chinese folk tales, Qilin is one of the guardians in the heaven. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
